Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend couldn't go on a date with me because his mom said no. He's 23. FML
Today, I was informed that my boyfriend's mother would be joining us on our Valentine's dinner. I'm not sure if this momma's boy thing is going to work out. FML
Today, I went on a movie date with a guy. He brought his mom. FML
Today, I was having dinner with my boyfriend. We'd just got our food when my dad walks in, comes up to our table and says, "I didn't say you could leave, you're too young to be dating him", then drags me out of the restaurant. We are both 15, and it was my first date. FML
Today, I had to tell my boyfriend to stop inviting his mother on our dates. FML
Today, I got the courage to ask my mom if I could go to the movies alone on my first date with my new boyfriend. She said OK, which was surprising because she never lets me go anywhere alone. When I got to the theatre with him I saw my mom. She had saved seats for us. FML
Today, I learned I don't have to spend Valentine's Day alone. My parents invited me along on their date. FML
Today, my parents decided they are going to come with me on my first date. FML
Today, I asked my helicopter parent mother if I could go over to a friend's house. She said no because her parents weren't there, and if she accused me of assaulting her, I'd have no defense. We're both 16, I'm gay and she's a lesbian. My mom is well aware of these facts. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 9 years rode with his mother after boot camp graduation. She acts more like a jealous lover than a mom, so I'm currently chasing them all over Chicago in a blizzard, with her refusing to stop the car so he can see me. FML

I disagree with everyone else, not allowing your kid privacy and to have their own life as a teenager, especially with dating, will basically hurt any potential relationship they try to form and greatly effect their social skills. It's showing you lack so much confidence in your ability as a parent and to teach them right, that you need to lord control over them. 17 is almost an adult, a teenager is not a child, so stop treating them like one. If you don't allow them some independence and adult responsibilities, which includes letting them have their own private lives and making their own choices, which may even include mistakes, they will never learn it.

What #1 said and they are still his legal guardians. If he was 25 or so then it would be an FML but other than being a little bit over protective I don't see anything wrong.

Just because a parent can legally do something doesn't mean they should. This is absolutely an fml. If my patents did shit like that you can bet I'd have lied my way around it. This is toxic and hampers development of the ability to sustain healthy relationships.

He is 17. They probably dont want him making stupid decisions and probably still live under their roof. Kudos to your parents though!

Instead they're hampering their kids ability to try things, make mistakes, and learn lessons. oh yeah, and probably making it harder for their kid to have healthy relationships in the future. such conduct is 100% toxic.

I don't see a problem. You're 17 or he is at least. It could be worse.

You people agreeing with the parents are beyond immature. Grow up!

Yeah, time to dump him and find a real man. If she won't even let you go on a date without her, I can't imagine how bad it's going to be when you're married. She'll move in.

Why would you just jump to breaking up? There is things called talking things out which is the mature thing to do.

this is only a problem if he doesn't realize it's a problem, otherwise he'll grow up fine.
