Today, my lawyer lied to me about how much of a settlement she won for my workplace accident. I got £20,000, but she lied and kept £55,000 for herself. My lawyer is my wife, and she claims she’s entitled to that money since she’s the one who’s really suffered caring for me during my recovery. FML

Today, I found out that the money that my wife claims went into repairing her car engine actually is going towards helping her pay for a divorce. FML
Today, my wife filed for divorce because I gained 170lbs due to an accident that paralyzed me in one part of my body, rendering me unable to work out regularly. According to her, I deserve to be “desired” and “there’s nothing there anymore.” Nice to know the past 12 years were nothing but a lie. FML
Today, my lawyer threatened to sue me because I can't afford his bill, which he sent to me after getting me out of a lawsuit. FML
Today, I finished negotiating my divorce with my ex-wife who is a lawyer. I spent more on legal fees than she has made from working in any of the last 5 years. It's hard for a lawyer to make so little in Canada, I'm glad that law degree, which I paid for, saved her so much money in legal fees. I hate all lawyers. Scum. FML
Today, we got the bill from our lawyer. She'd recommended taking my common-law wife's ex-husband to court for child support, so we went to court and won. The judge awarded us over $8300! The bill came to $18,000. FML
Today, my lawyer let me know that due to the rising costs of living, her rate has increased to $565 an hour. That's more 20 times my pay. I'm not even getting a cost of living increase. FML
Today, via legal bollocks, I got nothing from my husband in the divorce, even though he cheated on me. On my wage, I can’t afford to live in this area anymore, so I have to move and quit my job to get another job wherever I end up moving. This is why people hate lawyers. FML
Today, in a moment reminiscent of Two and a Half Men, my divorce lawyer screwed me over and gave my soon-to-be-ex-wife 90% of everything. I now need to pay a new lawyer to fix what she screwed up. And yes, she was lashing out at me because my brother had sex with her then never called her back. FML
Today, I got a separation agreement from my wife. It was sent from the lawyer she spent the long weekend with right before she told me it was over. FML
Today, my housemate revealed her supposed loss of function of her arm was all a lie. I spent hours in the ER with her and had to go to work the next day. Last time she lied about cancer. I'm stuck sharing with her for another 7 months. FML

If she really thought she was owed that, than she would have felt comfortable in legally and directly discussing appropriate compensation.

Damn... yes, I'm sure she did have to help you during your recovery...but that doesn't excuse lying. so now the question is....what are you going to do about it?

Wow, I don't think I could trust someone like that. Seems weird that she thought she could keep the official settlement number from you, as if you would never see any actual documentation...

Exactly if she's a real lawyer report her to the Bar association. If she did this to you I wonder if she did it to others. Oh and find the person who can't stand her at her firm and hire that person as your divorce lawyer

You've got a choice to make. Do you file the ethics complaint and lawsuits which will cost her her job, her freedom and your marraige or do you let it slide. I'd be leaning towards A, personally.

The real question is divorce or not? It’s not the amount of money she illegally kept but the dishonesty! Are you now so dependent on her care that you have to let dishonesty go or would you be better off divorced? Only OP knows the answer. In the USA it’s pretty common for lawyers to take on a case where they take 1/3 of the proceeds if the lawsuit is successful or nothing if the lawsuit is not successful. But they tell you that up front and your shyster of a lawyer took more than 1/3! If she had a legitimate case for charging for your care it would have been in the lawsuit. Unless I was on my deathbed I would make charges against this illegal and dishonest act as your attorney and also file for divorce. But then personally I hate lies and dishonesty...
