Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my distraught mom called me, saying my dad had killed himself and to come home right away. After cussing out my math teacher for trying to stop me and rushing back home in a taxi, I ran into the living room, only to find my parents laughing so hard they were practically in tears. FML
Today, right before the most important final of my education, I got a text from my mom saying my house had burned to the ground, and my children were outside waiting for the firemen. I panicked, left school, and sped home… all for her to laugh and tell me it was “just a joke.” FML
Today, I was sitting in math class taking notes on my laptop when my mom texted me, asking why I wasn’t in class. She has my location for security purposes. I’m 19 and in college. FML
Today, I received a phone call at work about an emergency, and that I had to come home immediately. I arrived to find that no one had been hurt and the house hadn't burned down. The "emergency" was my mom had ran out of milk and cigarettes. FML
Today, my mom got angry that I wasn't responding to her texts. I couldn't because I was in the dentist's chair. She'd dropped me off, and after returning from errands, sent the text from the waiting room. FML
Today, my mom was on the phone while we went grocery shopping. Apparently, her phone call was more important because she just left me stranded in the store. FML
Today, my mom called 5 times and I didn't pick up due to being in class at college. I was later called to the front desk, where my mom was crying. She said she was worried about me because I didn't say "I love you" to her after she dropped me off at college. FML
Today, I noticed that my mom had left the house without her cell phone. I called her phone to let her know she forgot it. FML
Today, I asked my mom to help my daughter with Zoom school while I handled an emergency. When I got back, I found out my mom went through my laptop containing all my documents, my emails and even the journal my therapist suggested I keep. She says she was looking for a Zoom link. Yeah right. FML
Today, I received a text from my mom saying, "We need to talk." I panicked and replied, "What did I do now?" She responded, "I was going to ask what you wanted for dinner, but now I’m curious about what you're hiding." FML

YDI for leaving your phone on during an exam

Firstly, how were you able to check your phone and get up and leave in the middle of your final? Secondly, YDI for skipping your final. I don't care what emergency is happening, if you're not there and you have to take the time to drive home, it can't be all that important. Why wouldn't your mom just call you or you think to respond with "what's wrong?". I'm calling fake.

You're not allowed to have cell phones on during exams in order to prevent you getting a text message providing answers. It's a common method of cheating. Family comes first, but "emergency" is pretty vague and you don't don't want to lose the $200-1150 that a university course costs. But then, you'd only know that if you were bright enough to get into postsecondary.

if my mom had an emergency she'd call the school and ask to speak to me, the rational and ethical way to handle a bad timing emergency, which is kind of redundant, but still. my mom would never expect me to check my text messages during a midterm. maybe were just different from the rest of the world, so fml instead. :]

did she remember it later on?

Exams > anything else. There is literally nothing more important than finishing a ****** final. If someone's dead, they'll still be dead when the exam is over, so just finish it. NOOB YOU ******* DESERVE THAT SO MUCH

Really. There's NOTHING more important than a final?? I suggest you reexamine your priorities in life.

Not for a student there isn't. Okay, you can make a good case for health reasons, but it still sucks to find out in mid- april you passed the course that you missed the exam for in December.

ydi, you're not allowed to have a phone on your person during an exam, even if it is silent/switched off.
