Today, I tried to buy a bottle of wine from the supermarket. The scrawny, acne-ridden kid at the checkout asked to see my ID. I didn't have any on me, since I'm 37 years old and didn't expect to be asked stupid questions. I complained to his manager, only to be asked to leave. FML

to all Americans, the UK is different, its not over 21 its over 18 and its not carded under 40 its carded under 25. Although on the other hand OP take it as a compliment, you can always go back later with ID, it happens all the time especially when adults bring their teens shopping

They are starting to check everywhere even if u look like ur 60ish I went with my gpa and he wanted some beer and they asked him so always keep ur ID with u

My mom was just fired because of someone like u... It's the law. Get over yourself and grow the hell up! Walk your lazy ass back to your car(probably a suv) and get your id.

No it's not. It's a store policy. OP is in the UK where the laws are apparently less draconian. It's likely that here a cashier would only be fired if they'd been caught selling age-restricted products to minors. In this case, OP is 37, so the kid would have been fine.

Yeah it's the law, I work behind a checkout, it's amazing how many people feel they can be incredibly rude to you just because you're doing your job. No one forced you to shop there- if you don't like it, go somewhere else. I'm sure the staff at that shop will be delighted to lose your custom.

The kid was just doing his job and the manager was defending his employee since he was just doing what he was supposed to.

The uk law says that u must have an id. Plain and simple.

Im a teenage cashier Nd you have to check ids of people who "look " under 35 otherwise youre in trouble

He can't complete the order until he puts a birthdate in and he needs to know you are over 21. It's his job, calm your ****

I am assuming that you DROVE to the supermarket, so you SHOULD have had your driver's license on you anyway and should not have had any trouble verifying your age. Thus, it's your fault.

People in the UK are not required by law to carry their driving license with them, even when driving - although it's a good idea. And also, why do you assume that the OP drove? I live a 2 minute walk away from my local supermarket - OP may be the same
