Today, I tried to buy a bottle of wine from the supermarket. The scrawny, acne-ridden kid at the checkout asked to see my ID. I didn't have any on me, since I'm 37 years old and didn't expect to be asked stupid questions. I complained to his manager, only to be asked to leave. FML

He can get fired for not asking you. You shouldn't have left your house without your ID. So you are a ******* idiot.

in most states retailers are required by law to see proof of ID for purchases of alcohol. No matter how old you are. take your ID next time

Aw. So bitter. You can't even think of anything the kid actually did wrong, so you're reduced to just insulting his appearance because clearly he has to be the guilty party SOMEHOW.

Around where I live, it is required by law to check for ID no matter how old a person is. And they do undercover checks of places to see if they are complying. A store could lose their liquor license if they didn't, so the employee and manager were just doing their job to avoid getting in a lot of trouble. Also, you should alway carry your license with you at all times, so YDI. (Really how hard is it to stick it in your wallet with your money and/or credit card, which you clearly had with you?)

Yet another old probably ugly European man who thinks being scrawny and acne-ridden is something easily controlled, then gets mad when the kid actually follows the rules. How lovely...

I don't know how it works there, but where I work state law says if you look under 40, we have to check your Id. Cut the kid some slack. They were just doing their jobs. Besides, they're saying you look younger than you are. Why are you pissed about that?

It's law in most states now to check all i.d. Or those under 50. The employee could lose their job if they don't.

WTF is wrong with you people that you don't realise that these cashiers are literally guessing your age. Regardless of how old you are, how old you "look" is a subjective opinion. OP is 37, and I bet that you could ask ten different cashiers what they think OPs age is and you would receive ten different answers from each one. This is true no matter what country you are in. Cashiers are not the carnies who work the "Guess your age" booth at the fair, so if you don't want to be inconvenienced because a cashier has a differing opinion of how old you look, bring your stupid ID card and avoid this ever being a problem in the first place. It really doesn't matter if you are in the UK, the USA, Canada, wherever. If you can't prove that you are of legal age to purchase a regulated substance, the store can refuse to sell to you.

that scrawny acne-covered kid did what he was supposed to do, ain't his fault that that's the policy or you forgot your ID, he could get fired or written up for not asking for ID
