Today, my soon to be mother-in-law sent me a birthday present. It was a necklace for me to wear at my wedding. The pendant is a well known lesbian symbol. I'm a woman and I'm marrying her son. FML

Obviously, if a lot of us are wondering about these "well-known lesbian symbols" then they aren't as well known as the OP assumes. Perhaps it's a local thing. Not knowing doesn't make someone a small town hick anymore than your rudeness and prejudice make you an ideal human.

She probably didn't mean anything by it. Maybe she thought it was pretty and you'd like it. OR, maybe she does think you're a lesbian. Or as #51 said, she probably does know what it means.
