To clear everything up: - they were dirty dishes going into the wash so it didn't really matter - I still have some dishes, but half of them are gone

How about not letting your dog lick the dishes? That's gross. If you insist on doing something so disgusting why not let him lick them before you put them in the dish washer. This really is a matter of a lack of common sense on your part.
Give it up, No. 77. These people think it's perfectly fine for a dog to lick the plate and then use it again themselves. They obviously have a different standard of cleanliness than we do.

Dishwashers normally have doors to prevent this sort of thing. Or did your dishwasher break so you hired the dog to help out?
This is why I have cats instead of dogs. I lived with dogs while I grew up, and found them to be pains in the butt most of the time. I still loved them and took good care of them, but with cats in a condo, I don't have to worry as much anymore.
Why was he licking the dishes in the first place?

Regardless of if the dishes were dirty and about to be washed that's still gross

Why would you let your dog do that? Maybe this experiance will scare him enough to keep him away from the dishwasher.
I'm constantly baffled by your optimism, Keevarou.
