Today, my dog was licking the dishes in the dishwasher when his collar got stuck on it. Then he got scared of the dishwasher rack following him and ran away really fast. Now I have no dishes. FML

To clear everything up: - they were dirty dishes going into the wash so it didn't really matter - I still have some dishes, but half of them are gone

Why would you let your dog do that? Maybe this experiance will scare him enough to keep him away from the dishwasher.

I'm constantly baffled by your optimism, Keevarou.

What are you, an idiot? Why the **** would you let your dog lick your dishes in the dishwasher in the first place? Aside from the obvious fact that this practice is disgusting (bet all your friends are dying to eat at your place now, NOT) clearly this was an accident just waiting to happen. In addition to the incident which already occured, it should be obvious that dogs do not have the ability to think that humans do, and would not know to not run his tongue on something sharp, like a knife. If you are too lazy to scrape your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and you were letting your dog act as a garbage disposal, then invest in paper plates.

So young and so angry! Damn that rap music...

My knives Go on the top part upside down away from wandering tongues. Also, the dishes are going to be washed. It isn't a big deal. Worse things have probably happened. Seriously? Dogs are like a garbage disposal by nature...and regardless of whether or not OP scraped the dishes, they probably still taste like food. Just saying.

Well that was excessively angry... Some people actually like their dogs and don't just scream at them whenever they do something. This could have seemed harmless before the running away part and the dishes were IN THE DISHWASHER meaning they would have been washed and sanitized afterward. Also, even though they do alot of strange things dogs have very clean mouths even compared to us, and I don't know what stupid dogs you've been around but all my dogs immediately recognize knives and other sharp objects and I've never threatened or hurt them with one....so yeah...

Even if you scrape all the plates as much as possible, there's still tiny bits and such. Dogs are still going to want to lick a plate that once had food on it. And like someone else had stated, sometimes dogs are just too fast. Then these accidents can, in fact, happen.

Whilst he did seem a bit over angry, he did have a point about the knives. I imagine dishwashers do vary but in most I've seen, mine included, the knives go on the bottom at the front. Mind you, I'm assuming OPs dishwasher isn't like this or didn't have knives in at the time otherwise he wouldn't have let the dog lick stuff in it....if it DID and OP is just dumb then he should be happy that broken plates is the worst that happened!

Someone needs a time out, to calm down.

Has anyone else noticed bankrupt is just a huge asshole? Judging by his comments on other fmls as well, I think he might need some therapy for being... Well... A psycho. :D

Just because your dog WANTS to lick the crumbs off a plate does not mean you should let him, no. 47. If he wants to shit the carpet should he be allowed to do that, too? Just shut the damn dishwasher door and this problem is solved. As for everyone ******** on bankrupt, I fail to see how not wanting to eat from a plate that a dog licked makes someone a psycho. I don't either so I guess according to all of you we both need to see a shrink and get meds.

Time to invest in paper plates ... You won't have to wash any plates and you save money on water bill :) it's a win win situation

Bam! That made a favorite! Too funny fyl for that happening though OP. Any dog owner knows dogs love dish washers not just for the plates but also the squeaky noises the rollers make :p

Why do you have a dog AND a dishwasher? A dog IS a dishwasher.

Your comment reminded me of a college roomate I heard about that, instead of washing the dishes, would let his dog lick them, and then put them on the dry rack. Roomate: Dude, why are the dishes always sticky after you wash them? Dog Roomate: That's just um...some soap residue. Yeah. *shudders*

who's a bad puppy dog , how did the dog even get into the dishwasher ?

perdix 29

Are you the bad puppy dog? Are you the bad puppy dog? Are you the bad puppy dog? Now, roll over so I can scratch your belly and make you kick your leg involuntarily.

It's not the belly he want's you to scratch :-

I'm pretty sure that if you have ever eaten at somebody's house that has a dog, they have probably let them lick leftovers off the plates before. They obviously wash them after, I don't see what the big deal is...

Why is everyone freaking out about the dog licking the dishes? I don't think it's a very good idea to have a dog near an open machine of almost any kind, but him licking the plates before they were about to be washed isn't gross at all. I do it all the time. As long as the dish is going to be washed and not left around with spit on it, it's fine. I even feed my dogs from my spoon or fork sometimes, because they're family and they are healthy, clean and non-drooly. Unless you have a sick, poop-eating or excessively-drooling dog, there really isn't a problem.

I'll just assume you were in the midst of getting the dishes out or putting them into the washer, when your dog got curious then scared itself. Otherwise, that's kind of gross if you let your dishes fester in the washer AND leave it wide open for bugs and other critters to get into. FYL either way OP!

That's happened a few times to my dog too. Luckily they were not my dishes and luckily there were only 2 dishes lost. Unfortunately I heard him do this while I was getting in the shower so I ran out in my towel and ended up cutting myself on a broken piece. Fml

So lickin the dishes is what they call it these days eh?
