Today, a customer at work pronounced the word "Asian" as "Ah-See-Awn" when ordering a salad. I wasn't allowed to say anything. FML

Better to leave it rather than to start crap and lose your job. Someone else will eventually deal with him

you should have given him a dictionary and asked him which pronunciation is correct...

no, being hostile would probably have made OP lose their job. subtly correcting them was the key, only if possible.

"So, you want Asian salad?" The Easiest way to correct someone subtly is to repeat what they said, but in the correct way. You're not correcting them, and you get to show them the proper way to say it.

oh i didn't realise i had to point out the sarcasm in my comment, thanks for the thumbs down everyone lol

Not every dictionary has phonetic transcript. Also, dialects can vary by quite a large amount. I mean for example, look at American and British English. That means that there isn't really such a thing as 'correct' pronunciation.

Just smile and keep moving on. There's always gonna be people like that.

maybe it was ze görman speaker with an terrible accent.

People mispronounce words all the time. Simple mistake. It's really not that big of a deal.

7- what exactly is ignorance greater than? Cheese? Elephants? Niether of those, obviously, but you didn't specify.

There's mispronouncing and then there's ignorance. Surely every adult would be able to pronounce "Asian". I would understand if English isn't their first language.

Some times people are just jerks. Deep breath and Move on

You should have subtly corrected them, by repeating their order back to them. "So that was the Asian salad?" Ha what a spaz though

#13 beat me to it. Yes repeat their order back to them.
