I wouldn't have done that job.
that's just not right!!! :(
that sucks, couldn't you delete yourself from the list? lol
#1 if you hate firsters then why did you become one? And what does FTW mean?
#8 that's a good way to get sued. Not complying probably wouldn't be a great idea either. Best thing to do in a situation like that would be to talk to HR because they may actually be breaking some employment laws by telling you ahead of time that you're laid off. Especially if it's a public company.
You should have found some way to use that to your advantage. When the company I used to work for outsourced my job, I sold my security card over the internet to a disgruntled customer. I don't think he ever did anything with it, though. :P
#6- if the only reason you comment is to criticize other people for commenting, then you shouldnt be on here. FTW means for the win.
OP- wow, that sucks, you shouldnt ahve deleted yourself, and you shouldve given yourself a raise. :)

Remove your supervisors and those you didn't like. You know.. for security reasons
#12 - On 05/10/2009 at 8:37pm by aero
#9 you would probably get sued for that.
@ OP: That sucks, it's extremely unprofessional of the company to do that and I would have filed a complaint with whoever was above the person who sent you that memo. At least you handled it in a professional way (I hope?) so when an interviewer asks that dreaded "Talk about a negative situation at your previous job and how you handled it" question, you have an answer ready to go.
#9 sound like a plan to me revenge is the sweet
Can't you sue, as you have not been notified correctly of the termination of your employment. There is a process to notify you, and by letting you "discover" it this way, they've breached the process.
you could work at Reynholm Industries, you just have to be good-looking XD
the i.t. crowd :P
That really sucks. I would have messed up their system really bad before I went - you should *never* piss off the IT person o_O I hope you get another better paying job soon.
you should have done something naughty. like in office space.
#19 - On 05/10/2009 at 8:56pm by stinkybutt
I am working to get a job like that...but this is making me reconsider
You should have went out with a bang and deleted everyone in the system.
"What, Mr. Morgan? You can't access your account? Sorry, I no longer work there, there is nothing I can do. 15 millions dollars put into an offshore bank in the Cayman Islands? I'm sorry, sir, I know nothing about that. How did I know it was 15 million? Lucky guess. Good-bye sir."
That's how you should've played it out ;)
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sd*
rm -rf /
they are all your friends.
or just give us the box's information

There's low, and then there's really, really low...FYL indeed.

#24 - ? what's the equation for?
#26 I was sayin the same thing in my head lol
OP that sucks
#26 I was thinkin the same thing lol
OP that sucks
Oh... That really sucks! Hope you life gets better.
RI
Fuck them, get a better job. =]
Aw, best of luck finding another job :(
#31 - On 05/10/2009 at 9:50pm by IllegalLight
lmao, wthell #26, we don't speak computer, i'm sorry.
OP, im' freakin sorry. you should've not deleted yourself, but delete everyone else on that list, lol
#32, edit: #24 wthell. my bad D:
The command copies all their data to a flash drive and then deletes the system.
Would of just ignored it and kept working. Wait for them to fix the problem.
You could have "forgotten" to do it, seeing as if they find out you get fired but if you do it you get fired. Might as well go for luck!
at least you dont work at a porn company
Is there any way you can fuck them up while you're at it? Pretty rude of them to require you to remove yourself. Or what happens if you *don't* remove yourself?
Dude, you're in IT make a nice little backdoor for yourself and fuck around with their files after you've left, blame it on not having enough IT people.
You should have taken them down with you.
D:

rm -rf / is a command, when run as root (the superuser), that will delete all the files on a system that's writable
Should've left a gaping security hole for competitors to hack the shit out of that company.
as far as the first command goes on (#44), it overwrites the hard drive with random data, destroying the data
i would of let meself on the system just to mess things up. :)
i wouldnt have done it dude id have come back later used it and stolen a shit load of stuff
(i would have deleted the email and "lost" my card first tho)
All these calls for petty vengeance are a little distressing. I hope the poster had stronger morals than to screw up the company's system. Other people acting like jerks isn't an excuse to become one yourself. Maybe honor and common decency are more important than screwing up other people's lives because you got fired?
#48 - On 05/10/2009 at 11:05pm by zzyx
Oh #47 petty vengeance? People go into work to put a roof over their heads and feed their kids having their intelligence and skills milked from them in factory farm cubicles for crap wages while the CEO tests his new helicopter and forgets how to treat the people who make the company run (propping up his fat cat ass at the top) with basic respect. Haven't you ever heard fight fire with fire?
FYL. That must have hurted. :(
#48 Psh, like the honor and common decency that the company didn't have to properly tell him of the termination of his employment?
An eye for an eye usually isn't the best thing to do, but in this case, i support it.
Stash something in the boss's desk and F... his life. Watch out for cameras. Then remote to his computer and delete the list or just take your name off it. Despair is never a useful strategy. When life gives you anything, take what you deserve and give the rest of it back.
#52: You don't get it. This is EXACTLY what "an eye for an eye" means. The whole point is that even if the company did screw up, it doesn't make it okay to take revenge by screwing his coworkers, boss, other IT people who have to sort it out... The industrial system can be pretty cold and heartless, but vengeance is neither right nor mature, and has a way of hurting innocent people. How would you like to be the coworker who not only suddenly has twice the work to do now that Joe has been fired, but loses all their files when Joe wrecks the system? Or the guy in the next department who's laid off when the company loses millions in hacker attacks and can't afford to keep him anymore?
Sure, I agree, the company was lacking honor and common decency. But that gives the poster no right to toss all his out the window. Man, this world is screwed up.
#53 - On 05/11/2009 at 12:07am by zzyx
Fire the person who fired you.
or give them a reason why they fired you for security reasons
I would have told them to f themselves and to remove everyone from the system themselves.
That sucks, I was in a similar situation a few years back. The problem was that I was their only IT administrator, I had all the passwords to all the systems. I got to work and they gave me a typed letter indicating that my employment has been terminated due to financial difficulties, but that I can leave the office immediately and still receive my full salary for the following two months. I took them up on the offer, only to have them call me 5min later to ask me for some passwords and assistance. I refused.
don't be a sore loser. just do the job.
I would have taken my name out then went to your bosses desk threw the list on the table and said"now its your problem you remove the rest of the people" and then walked out the office

|O|, your boss is crazy!
#60 - On 05/11/2009 at 2:03am by soyo
time for an easter egg :)
#61 - On 05/11/2009 at 2:32am by xieh
well if you're a good programmer and you know your way around IT systems, then you should have left a few back doors open to later hack into the network and sell company secrets to the competition. Its about time these non-technical bosses learn that IT is not just a cost center, its the glue that holds the company together.
if you had done your job properly, you wouldn't have been fired in the first place. YDI.
Lol! I'd just delete the guy who wrote the list and carry on with life as normal B-)
Number 22: it's "should have gone", not "should have went".
@63 yes, the only reason someone would be fired is for not doing their job properly. thats all it could possibly be. idiot.
@54 why do you assume all other equal level people would be put out by this? you mean because hes now made them officially useful so the possibility of redundancy is out the window, securing their jobs for the future? or because theyve got more work to do, which they can do without having to take it home with them anyway and are unlikely to be losing any sleep over the issue, in fact being close with the guy as they probably are theyre more likely to cheer him on for it and be in on it.
I'd question why they're making you do it. Since obviously your job has become redundant you shouldn't have any responsibilities. if there's no one else who can do this after you leave, then they're going to be pretty f*cked in future.
I would have deleted a few more names, by the time I quit. especially the person that gave me the list.
thts a little bit fuked up
Didn't you think of starting deletion with your own account ?
Afterward you had no more access to the system, couldn't do anything more... and let them wipe their own shit !
Good job, #58...
#70 - On 05/11/2009 at 9:18am by RLJJ
You should've pulled an Office Space and ripped them off for millions!
i think i know where you worked :-(
This is like the 20 millionth FML about someone having to fire themselves as their last working responsibility. Its getting boring.
LOL
i would have deleted everyone.
and then make a dramatic scene while leaving
Reminds me of Office Space for some reason... ;)
u should have opened Command prompt and done a little bit of administrator stuff :D
#77 - On 05/11/2009 at 12:50pm by sheepyblah
Sorry about that. I bet your boss didn't even think about you. How cruel. :(
#78 - On 05/11/2009 at 4:18pm by Megliz
As if you wouldn't leave a couple of backdoors open! Fuck them around a little...
#15 the quote from the IT crowd - brilliant!
I wouldn't have done it. What're they donna do, fire you?
I hope you were honourable. That ALONE would easily get you a job. "He had to fire himself and yet he DIDN'T fuck them up as revenge? Wow, we can trust this guy!"
Like #70:
So, did you remove your own administrative privileges first, and then told your boss that you were unable to remove the other employees?
haha black box every computer. show them what for.
@#70 "So, did you remove your own administrative privileges first, and then told your boss that you were unable to remove the other employees?"
Pretty much what I would have done. No harm done and gets the message across.
I'm with #70. Do yourself first, then everything else is their problem. What are they going to do, fire you twice?
What you do is place a timed "bomb" in their computer system that will erase all of their data weeks after you have left the company.
That way you get revenge and the suspicion of your guilt will not be as great.
tell them you can't self-terminate.
#88 for the win.
Also I think it's pretty much a given that you accidentally also remove whoever sent you the list.
#89 - On 05/14/2009 at 12:40pm by capnpaco
Ooooh.
They could have at least told you beforehand D:
Muck around with their files.
That's too bad, Mr. Lucius Fox.
do whatever any1 else suggested, xcept bing honorable
I would say mess with the system but that will bring you far more trouble then the BS they pulled. I say file a formal complaint with someone higher up and at least leave with a bit of dignity. Though how are you expected to finish clearing the system if you are no longer listed with access to do as such?
#93 - On 05/31/2009 at 7:18am by AeternusMiasma
Dont u hate it when people just hate u?
that sucks man. I'm sorry to hear that. couldn't you have kept your name on there? after all your boss probably doesn't know how to check it, and if you get caught, what's the worst that can happen? fire you? (well, maybe arrest you, I don't know).
I would be all like Hell no mutha F***er
