Today, I checked into my flight early. The kiosk asked me if I wanted an earlier flight for $50. Awesome. I swiped my card then continued to the next screen where I was informed my new flight was delayed to the same time as my original flight. FML

You do know that you can just fly standby for free, right? As long as you've got a ticket for the same destination and the plane has an open seat, you can get yourself on an earlier flight by just walking up to the gate and putting yourself on the standby list. That was my trick back when I was doing a lot of business travel and I finished up my work with the client more quickly than expected. If the earlier flight didn't have a seat free, no biggy, that's what airport wifi is for.
