Today, I checked into my flight early. The kiosk asked me if I wanted an earlier flight for $50. Awesome. I swiped my card then continued to the next screen where I was informed my new flight was delayed to the same time as my original flight. FML

Today, to avoid a massive delay on our scheduled flight at the airport, we were generously moved to an earlier flight home. An hour later, our new flight had been cancelled and they told us we'd be stuck at the airport overnight. Our original flight took off fine. FML

Today, I was at the airport getting ready to go to Hawaii. The guy at the counter said my flight was delayed. It turns out that the flight that was delayed was a flight going to Miami. My flight left at the regular time, and my luggage was on it, because I checked in the night before. FML

Today, I was stuck at the airport overnight waiting for my flight for about 5 hours. I then went and looked at the departures board. It said that my flight had already departed. FML

Today, I arrived at the airport two and a half hours early because I was expecting it to be busy. The line was long but I had plenty of time, until a woman complained about a fee for checked bags. I was next in line, and still managed to miss my flight because the woman caused such a big scene. FML

Today, due to a scheduling error, I spent an entire day and night in an airport, over 30 hours in total. Just as I arrived at the gate, I was informed that my flight had been delayed for another 2 hours. FML

Today, before setting off on my train journey I checked my booking. The (non-refundable) return date was a week later than I intended, and after buying a new ticket online, I was informed that I would be able to collect it in 2 hours. I leave in an hour. I'll have to pay three times to come home. FML

Today, after my first flight landed late, I burned out my lungs sprinting full speed for 10 minutes to catch my next flight. The gate number on my ticket was wrong. It had been changed to one right next to where I had originally pulled up to. FML

Today, I was on a flight home. I wasn't going to arrive until midnight, so I was offered an earlier flight that got back at ten. I got to baggage claims and it turned out they lost my bag. I sat there for 2 hours. The people on my original flight left for home before I did. FML

You do know that you can just fly standby for free, right? As long as you've got a ticket for the same destination and the plane has an open seat, you can get yourself on an earlier flight by just walking up to the gate and putting yourself on the standby list. That was my trick back when I was doing a lot of business travel and I finished up my work with the client more quickly than expected. If the earlier flight didn't have a seat free, no biggy, that's what airport wifi is for.

The only problem with that is if there's never any free seats. When my grandma died, we flew to Wales (her home country) to spread her ashes. My aunt ended up not making it because she were flying standby and never got a seat.

dude seriously $50 is actually a lot just to get an earlier flight because really sometimes it isn't to bad to just hang out in an airport and relax a little and maybe talk to some friends before your flight or maybe even just get a drink and if you have your laptop do some stuff on your laptop. but seriously it's never really worth $50 just to get an earlier flight. and also you should've checked what time the flight is at because a lot of the tine airports will try to do that to people because they want to make money and they will probably try to do it any way they can. that was just stupid on your part

I wouldn't fork out an extra $50 for a different flight just coz it was earlier. I'd wait the extra two/four/six hours or whatever. It's not like you had anything better to do seeing as you turned up so early.

Always do this at the counter, not the self-service kiosk. Chances are if the earlier flight was delayed, so was your original flight. I've gotten them to bump me to the earlier flight delayed to my original time, and wave the fee for the same reason.
