Today, I got a $200 ticket mailed to me for drunk driving in Maryland. I have never been pulled over for drunk driving and I have never been to Maryland. FML

you should fight it if it wasn't you. i've had similar things happen before, like getting a ticket for speeding when i wasn't even driving anywhere near where they said i was. someone probably made a mistake.
1) $200 is way low for a drunk driving offense
2) You'd be required to appear in court
3) You'd be arrested on the spot
It's a scam, fool.
yeah seriously..im usually not one to call these posts fake ( even though im sure some are ) but yeah DUI is like uhh jail time, you wouldnt have a license and the last i checked they dont mail you tickets unless they are for going through red lights that have cameras or going through a toll booth without paying..but hey what do i know, maybe your life just suckss
It sounds fishy enough but i know from experience that first time offenders dont serve any time in jail, you can lose your licesense but it's different in every state. Same thing with tickets, its different in every state

lol i live in maryland im pretty sure they go insane here over drunk driving, but that totally sucks, try to prove you never were in maryland or something so you dont have to pay that 200 fine.
its possible to get the license plate mixed up too right? maybe someone here was close to yours, and thats why they mailed it to you.. referring to the comment above from lexi_lu.
really not that big a deal unless you actually get arrested for it which very likely isn't gonna be the consequence for not doing something

I'm going to say YDI because I notice you said you've never been pulled over for drink driving, which is very different to saying you have never been drink driving. Maybe this is fate teaching you an easy leason to start with. Learn it!
You can contest a real out of state DUI mailed to the wrong address. Was this ticket written in crayon with a line that says fill in your credit card information here?

What probably happened is someone in Maryland was arrested and all that fun stuff and then they mailed that person their ticket and there was so kind of big mixup with the address?
Seems to me something like that would be the most logical explaination.
Hey this is a form of identity theft. You need to get it taken care of or you could end up in jail for something you didn't do. I'm serious some crook could be using your name and you don't know it. You could have other convictions you don't know about.
You obviously got very, very, VERY drunk when you went to Maryland if you don't even remember going.

@#7 - no, you're right, first time offenders don't always get suspended, BUT a 200 ticket is cheapear than most low speeding tickets and REGARDLESS of what state yu are in they will hold you until you are sober enough to drive.
No officer, in their RIGHT mind will say,...woops yourd drunk, off you go!
This is either a scam or the dude is BSing to get a FML on here.
AND even if it WERE true. wtf is this a fml. if its not you you contest it. Its simple. You call in, show proof it wasn't you and you're done.
Id be more concerned over the idea that someone potentially stole my identity and is raking up tickets on my lisence.

Hehe, I am from MD and that kind of sounds like something our police force/government would do! As much as I love MD, some of the state officials don't seem too bright. In fact, the other night in class we were discussing the poor quality of some of the MD state websites. Go figure. I am sorry that happened to you.
I'm from Maryland, too. One time, I was sent a ticket for blowing through a red light in a part of the state I NEVER go. I drive a Mazda, the car in the picture was a Honda. They just read the liscence number completely wrong. Our police are a bunch of dumbies.

#25 is correct, one time my brother had his car surrounded by six cruisers in an empty parking lot because he had a flat and was changing his tire. Now, my brother is 6'6" and at the time was probably about 280 lbs, but still, there's no reason six cruisers are needed to check what he's doing. The police here are really dim-witted and have nothing better to do with their time it seems.
Hmm, something akin to this has happened to me. But it was a parking ticket from a state I hadn't been to it. It was because I had purchased my car fairly recently, and my plates were the same as the previous owners (who deserved the ticket). It took the state a while to find my car..It all worked out.. Maybe this is a similar situation... Though, drunk driving seems to be a thing you get pulled over for and the licence gets checked.
There is a woman who has the same name, including middle name as me, is born one day before me, same year, and who has the last four digits of her social the inverse of mine. I got her w2's last year. She has a much better job then I do.

maryland has a tendency to do that type of stuff. they sent me papers for owing them for income taxes for when i lived there when i was 12. im 19 now and i got the papers this year. i never had a job when i was out there. thats what messed up about them.

Hey, don't feel bad. I got three tickets in the mail not too long ago for a car I sold over a year ago. Turns out the guy I sold it to never transferred the car into his name, but instead, illegally copied and distributed the plates to random people around Wisconsin.

Like many said, it could be the result of a scam or a miscommunication.
It may also be the result of identity theft.
So, if this actually happened...take it seriously. Go get your credit reports and see if anything looks fishy. Contact YOUR police AND the Maryland police.

I just wanted to counter all the anti-Maryland sentiment (which I knew would be here as soon as I clicked on the comments link) by saying that Maryland is great; we have our problems just like everyone else, but I love it here. :) That's all.

This seems way too fake. This is what I found for a DUI in MD, so I definitely think you are either lying or being scammed.
"The first time you are convicted of a DUI in the State of Maryland you will face up to 1 year in jail AND up to a $1,000 fine. If you were transporting a minor when you were arrested you could be sentenced up to 2 years in jail AND pay up to a $2,000 fine. Your drivers license will ALSO be suspended for a minimum of 45 days. Your first DWI conviction will cost you up to 2 months in jail and a $500 fine. In addition, your drivers license could be suspended 60 days."

A camera would not have sent you a ticket for drunk driving, as it's judgement isn't so great in that area, and the only way they get mailed to you if you got busted by a camera. I can garuntee MDSP is not sitting on the side of the road, envelopes in hand, furiously writing tickets and running them to a mailbox as quickly as possible... you would have gone to jail for the night, been slapped on the wrist, paid to re-instate your license and possibly be shopping for car insurance.... otherwise it's bogus, or you are...
however you did actually get one like that, I'd make a phone call to highway patrol, and see what you can find out about your citation #... from there use logic.

Impaired Driving is a criminal offence in Maryland, you would not receive a ticket for $200 in the mail. It is a mandatory arrestable offence. I can only think of two possible scenarios here:
1) you are full of shit and making this up.
2) you are being scammed and falling for it.
Either way, you're a fucking idiot.
