Today, after having lost my phone three days ago, I paid a $150 non-refundable fee to have my phone replaced and mailed to me by Tuesday. A half hour later, I found my original phone. FML

Today, I seemingly misplaced my cell phone but didn't have time to look for it before work. This evening, my cell phone company calls me to tell me I have six hundred dollars worth of calls to El Salvador that I have to pay for. My cell phone was not misplaced, it was stolen. FML
Today, I found my phone under the car seat after three days. I flipped it open ready to issue apologies to everyone who had tried to get in touch with me and I had worried. No missed calls. FML
Today, after being upset at the fact that my phone was stolen at work, I received a note on my locker saying, "100 bucks and you get the phone back." My phone is being held for ransom. FML
Today, the snowblower found my lost phone. FML
Today, I spent 300 dollars making colored flyers for my iPhone that I lost. On the flyer I wrote for whoever found it to call me and I would give a reward. I wrote the phone number of my iPhone that I lost. FML
Today, I lost my $100 in cash that I had to use to pay my phone bill. As a result, my phone got cut off and I missed an important call for an apartment that I was looking at. When I went to work, I heard my boss saying how lucky she was to find $100 in cash. FML
Today, my girlfriend told me she lost her phone and not to call or text her. After about three hours, I text her phone, asking if she found it yet. I got a reply, saying "Nope." FML
Today, after frantically searching my house and office and calling every place I'd visited in the last 24 hours, I finally found my phone in my fridge. FML
Today, I had to sell my phone to pay for the phone bill. FML
Today, my phone went missing. My 8-year-old son took it to school and sold it for $10. FML

#18, I recently sold my iPhone 4 that I had for more than two years for $240 cash on Craigslist. I'm not sure why people are paying so much for used phones, but I'm happy they are out there.

People are paying so much for used phones is because they don't have to sign another 2 year contract.

They pay that for used phones then they are not stuck in a contract. The phones are actually worth like $600 so the 150 you can get them but you are stuck with a stupid contract.

^^ Oh, I'm not a stranger. At least, not any stranger than most folk. I do seem to have a need to keep the contents of my two front pockets of equal weight so I don't lean to one side when I walk, but that doesn't make me so strange. Does it? That means since my keys weigh so much, I always have to keep my pocket knife, 12 quarters, two dimes, two nickels, four pennies and 17 paper bills in my left pocket. Every day.…… Wow, I guess I am stranger than most. You're forgiven!! Oh well. Life's way too short to worry about the little things. Carry on. :D

You can sell it (and at a high premium - above retail price if it's unlocked), or trade it in to some eco-recycling website that actually pay you up to 80% of market value for a brand new phone.

The problem is especially if its Verizon or another CDMA carrier is they make the phone have a bad ESN so it can't be activated. Otherwise people would do this all the time. Not sure about GSM though.
