(0)LIVE THE LIE!
#1 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:03am by mkb
(0)Penn is a horrible school u must be fucking stupid
(0)dangit!--i was so excited to be first, just a few seconds short lol
anyway, what i planned on saying: ohh that sucks dude--i actually always wondered if people made that mistake. Penn State's still a good school though!
(0)lol It's your mother who should be embarrassed... XD
#3 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:05am by Karis
(0)I really don't consider this a FML. Even though it's slightly embarrassing, that you're not going to an ivy league school when everyone thinks you are, it's just a simple mistake someone made. Like #2 said, it is a good college. Just be happy you got into college
(0)nah, penn state sucks. only retarded sluts go there.
(0)hey fagget! i went to penn state and im now a sucsessful laywer so STFU your probably jelous because go to college because not enough people picked you up.
(+1)"hey fagget! i went to penn state and im now a sucsessful laywer so STFU your probably jelous because go to college because not enough people picked you up."
Okay, sweetie, if you actually did indeed go to Penn State and become a "successful" lawyer, you would know how to construct a proper sentence. Let me show you how your sentence is suppose to be wrote.
1. "hey" should be capitalized.
2. "fagget" is spelled "fagot".
3. "i" is supposed to be capitalized.
4. "im" is spelled "I'm".
5. "your" in the context that you are using is spelled "you're" ("you are").
6. "jelous" is spelled "jealous".
7. From the word "because" and on, your sentence fails to make any sense.
Therefore, you are a failure to lawyers and Penn State. Learn proper sentence structure and grammar before you spout off about how much of a success you are, then maybe you will actually look more like an educated "lawyer", instead of an uneducated idiot.
(0)^
Wow, way to show him.
(0)you forgot about "sucsessful" ! it's spelled succsessful... what a fucking arrogant moron.
(0)No, it's successful..
This comment has been moderated.
(0)You forgot lawyer too. The idiot wrote "laywer".
(0)Next time, don't correct someone f you are then going to spell something wrong, 245. The past tense of write is written, not "wrote" and it's spelled "faggot", not "fagot".
(0)You: 0
Your mom: 0
Life: 1
(0)well, it's actually up there.
It's kind of like the ivy league of public universities (ivy league colleges are private).
so congrats! not that much of an fml...
#6 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:09am by woahcomments
(0)I see how people could make that mistake. I certainly have before, hehe.
Don't sweat it; penn state is still a good school!
(0)nothing wrong with PSU...fail FML...
(0)whoooo Penn Statee!!! much more fun than upenn fo sho.
#9 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:15am by eyeofthebeholder
(0)Hey man, I heard you got into UPenn, congrats!! That school's like crazy smart!
PS. #10's a dick, I can see how this could be a FML for you.
(0)At least you weren't the kid who got into UPenn and then had everyone hold him a Penn State party.
(0)Do NOT knock Penn State! It's a great school! Cause I go there! =] As good as an Ivy League at half the price! =]
WE ARE!!!
#13 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:20am by special890
(0)penn state!!! i went there too!
(0)OMG
my mom did the same thing! i go to penn state right now and i can tell you - you'll love it! but yea, i actually stopped correcting people and just went along with the whole upenn thing hahah
(0)#10.... Whoa there buddy, ease up on the all caps.
And this site is for all those so called "insignificant" little screw ups that happen during the day. You don't have to get run over by a van in order for it to be a FML.
(0)Penn State is much better than UPenn. I go to PSU. It is great. You will love it. Football games are a blast.
#16 - On 04/09/2009 at 10:24am by jrw364
(0)Although getting run over by a van would make a pretty good FML too, maybe #10 can try that one out?
(0)haha dude don't knock PSU. I go here!! Unless you're going into law this is probably a better choice. Plus we have a prestigious business college anyway. Might as well save the money and have 100x the fun.
oh btw #13
PENN STATE
(0)Do you guys live in PA? I think that's a pretty bad screwup if your stepmom doesn't know the difference between Penn State and University of Pennsylvania. She should know better if you live in the state.
But on the other hand, I hope you're thrilled that you're at least going to Penn State! I'm a junior there right now in nursing and I absolutely love it! :D
I understand why this is an FML though, especially since you say they were shocked. Make your stepmom apologize if you two are together and talking to people about college in the future.

(0)another thing... isn't the nittany lion logo stamped on the letter? i can't remember from mine.
anyways. congrats again i hope you pick us!
(0)Not really an FML?
(0)Love the Penn Staters hatin on him for bashing us. PSU is better than UPenn fo sho
(0)this is funny shit
(0)I'd say FML is a bit of a stretch (seeing as Penn State kicks ass and all), but I totally know where you're coming from... it's amazing how many people mix that up when you tell them. "Yeah, I go to Penn State." "Oh, isn't that Ivy League?" ...Yeah, get used to it. You're going to be hearing a lot more of it, haha.
(0)FYL to all American university students. Canadians get their educations for free!
(0)Go Fighting Quakers! It's a good thing to be mistaken as a Penn student. Penn is a glorious institution with an incredible faculty and top-notch research. Live the dream, dude! It's a great feeling to feel like an ivy leaguer, instead of a state-schooler.
To #18: You may have a prestigious business school, but guess who has Wharton?
To all PSUers- it is true that you guys have a good football team. I wish we did- we're usually near the top of the ivy league football conference, though. But no one really attends the game, except for maybe homecoming.
Go the Red and the Blue!
(0)At least it's not the other way around- I went to UPenn and got tons of people saying "oh, what a great football team- I love Penn State."
(0)...PSU is a good school....this FML is a waste because of a mix up in words. It's like I go to the University of Delaware, but people sometimes say Delaware State University which is a different school. It's a mix up. get over it.
(0)not an fml, i think you should be happy that you got into a good college(which many people cant do and have to settle for less) AND you have a step mother who tried to do something nice for you and throw you a party, be happy with all that =)
(0)Well Univ. of Delaware is terrible, and DSU is comparable to middle school. I feel bad for you bro...terrible mix up. Maybe you should of studied harder.
(0)lol #32, harsh!
You know, Princeton was almost named New Jersey State University.
(0)#32 University of Delaware isn't a bad college actually. Don't know where you got your information on that one.
(0)fuck you. penn state is the best place ever in life.
(0)Big Ten is fucking Ivy League.
(0)I agree, that is an FML moment, especially having to explain to people that you are actually not an Ivy-Leaguer. Last year this time, if I had gotten rejected from UPenn and only gotten into Penn state, I would've been devastated. UPenn might not have the best football team ever, but watching college football won't get you anywhere in life. It's also not true that Penn State people have more fun because they are located in the middle of nowhere, how much fun can you have in frat houses? THere are tons of clubs in Philly that we can go to, and if there's nothing great around here, we are only a short train ride away from NYC, where everything is happening. Also, I think Penn State people blindly believe that they are just the best at everything, it's such a joke for penn state to brag about their business school when we have Wharton.
(0)We are PENN STATE ;-) And #37...PSU has gotten me plenty in life. UPenn...not much fun. And please...Philly? A sorry excuse for a city. So, go enjoy your Ivy league. And we'll kick your ass in other placces.
(0)#37: UPenn is obviously a damn good school, but I'm not going around and bragging about it like a pompous ass. We blindly believe we're the best at everything? From the looks of your post, you're the one who really needs to get that giant metal pole removed from their ass. People look for different things in different schools. Doesn't mean we have any less fun (far from it) or get a joke of an education. Get over yourself.
(0)It's not like Upenn is really considered an Ivy League school in any way except the athletic conference and price tag (unless you were accepted in the MBA program). No real big loss. Study hard and, even as a Penn St. undergrad, you could get into a decent grad school.
(0)hahaha rawrz time!
"MINES BIGGER/BETTER/PRETTIER/STRONGER/WHATEVER THEN URZ!"
hahaha. anyways. just make it a big ol' joke. not a big deal. just laugh it off. or run with the lie..it could be fun XD
This comment has been moderated.
(0)Oh wow.
This thread is hilarious. I go to neither Penn State nor UPenn, but I do agree that this is sort of an FML. How many people did you have to correct?
In any case, don't let these people influence you; the Ivy League isn't all it's cracked up to be (I'm currently a junior at an Ivy). There will be smart people at both UPenn and Penn State... I'm just worried about some Penn Staters who knock on "pompous, man scarf-wearing dickheads whose idea of a good time is hanging out in a cafe and talking about Plato." Steer clear of these fratboy meatheads and you'll definitely go far in life.
(0)I'd just like to say for all of you bragging about Wharton, my dad fucking taught there, and he actually encouraged me NOT to go to UPenn because he hated the school so much. He left Wharton after a year and came to work at PSU.
So even those who can get into UPenn don't want to go there. Sorry your school sucks
WE ARE!
(0)Just run with it!
(0)i got accepted too! university park?
(0)So much unwarranted pride from Penn State. Stop compensating.
To the OP: Just run with it, it'll be fun!
(0)My relatives still think my brother and I go to Boston College. We go to Boston University. It's annoying, but not really FML-worthy. (It stings a little since I got waitlisted from BC, but...)
#42: Probably not a great time to be bragging about running hedge funds. Or the government.
#48 - On 04/09/2009 at 11:42am by Inoku
(0)I wouldn't worry too much about the status of your uni too much. I got into a college in England thats not that well known even though its actually pretty good and i get all sorts of silly comments from people who don't know what they're talking about.
Its a pretty annoying thing to happen but don't worry about it- you got into university, be proud!
(0)i go to penn state now... trust me. you'll have a much more fulfilling experience here...and it's not just the partying, which is ridiculous to say the least. it's everything you could possibly ask for in a college. upenn is just a name after 4 years.
(0)32, you're a moron. UDel is actually a pretty good school. It's ranked in the top 100 in the US.
I almost went to their honors college because my dad's a Prof. and I would've gone for free. But instead I'm at Columbia University.
Either way. UD isn't terrible. But your grammar is! "Should of". Hahahaha.
(0)#50-
So what's more fulfilling? Here at Penn, we can start our own clubs with plenty of funding. There are hundreds of student organization and club sports abound. We have over 80 languages taught here, and tons of interesting classes taught by world class professors. What could Penn State provide that Penn can't?
(0)penn state > upenn anyway!! congrats!
amen to #50.
and #37...you're clearly bitter. let me just say that penn staters get just as far as upenn alum because when people see penn state, they recognize. we have people EVERYWHERE. and one day, when we all get jobs over you, you'll wish you had been sitting in beaver stadium and going to frat houses with us.
WE ARE PENN STATE!
#53 - On 04/09/2009 at 11:53am by kellyyo
(0)#52, just fyi, we have those same things...
#54 - On 04/09/2009 at 11:56am by kellyyo
(0)If your parents can't figure out Upenn and penn state then your already smarter than them good job!
I agree with #1 - Go along with it and live the lie!
#57 - On 04/09/2009 at 12:03pm by 100308
(0)Hey in case you didn't know, Penn State is a "runner-up" to be on the list of "public ivy league schools". Ivy League education at a public school price.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_ivies#The_original_eight_Public_Ivies
However, It's still not University of Texas. :)
(0)Penn State is awesome! Plus, it's ranked higher than UPenn in some majors, like engineering. It's a great school, and obviously there's heaps of people who are really proud to go there. I'm graduating this year, and I've never regretted going to school at PSU. Congrats!
(0)Big 10 football has been sucking lately anyway. Ohio State has been blown out at bowl games. Wisconsin disappeared. Penn State got owned by Texas. (come on, undefeated with that schedule? Are you kidding) If not football, what does Penn State have? good frat parties?
We ivy leaguers can party it up better than state schools. FYI Animal House is based at Dartmouth University, another ivy league.
(0)Dude Penn State is still a bad ass school. I dont know what your complaining about
(0)PSU is still an high quality school
(0)there is way too much school pride/bashing going on here, calm down guys you're all insane.
(0)haha I went through a similar experience when I got my SAT scores back.
I got a 1950 and I told my mom that if I try next time I take the SAT's I could get into UPenn, an Ivy League school. She then proceeded to yell to her friends that I got a 1950 and I'm getting into an Ivy League School and I was just like no mom, no. lol
but hey it's embarrassing but at least you got into a good college :)
have fun!
#64 - On 04/09/2009 at 12:10pm by FMLover269
(0)I called shenanigans on the UPenn guy saying they have a gazillion different languages, but it's true. Insane.
(P.S. Beat out on the Public Ivies list by University of Vermont? *That's* a bummer.)
#65 - On 04/09/2009 at 12:10pm by Inoku
(0)They have an excellent psychology program; I applied to graduate school there! Schools all have their own merits.
(0)Penn State is still a great school... idk why going there is an FML... congrats
(0)that suckss but penn state is a good school
(0)Don't worry about it, Penn State is a great school!! I would agree, your step-mom should be more embaressed...
And to #13, PENN STATE!
(0)#42, I'll keep that in mind. But I live in Manhattan. So direct your anger elsewhere. Like your shitty city of Philly!
(0)Both PSU and UPenn are great schools. You should be proud getting into PSU. Congrats! You'll love being at college in Philadelphia, it's a wonderful city.
(0)No matter what college you go to, your experience is what you make it. I am a student at PSU and I love it. However I had friends go here that hated it. Same for UPenn. It's all about how you do it. Yes, Penn State is an awesome place, and I'm sure UPenn is too. To everyone bashing either place, shut up, because the people you're going against aren't going to listen to a word you say.
(0)true to 72. wait to join greek atleast a semester, but youll love it when you pick the right one.
facebookthis.mybrute.com
(0)Well at least your stepmom is proud of you either way. MY parents tell me everyday on how I fail at school and won't be able to get into Penn State. I'm a B average student.
(0)Haha, I'm going to PSU next year too and I've had people mix them up in conversation. But I never got a party for getting in.
In the future when people ask how UPENN is going, just say "Actually Penn State is going...." But either way good luck next year!
(0)The intense debate between UPenn and Penn State in this thread is really amusing.
I can see how this would be a FML moment, but it's not that big of a deal. The real FML would be if you hadn't gotten into college. You're still going to a good school, be happy!
#76 - On 04/09/2009 at 12:49pm by lnm701
(0)"FYI Animal House is based at Dartmouth University, another ivy league."
No, it was filmed at the University of Oregon. Both sides need to chill the fuck out and realize that your education is what you make of it. Ivy Leaguers, the name alone won't carry you through life if your grades suck; everyone else, quit acting as if you have something to prove to Ivy Leaguers.
(0)#32 UDel is AWESOME! Its a good school and has one of the best study abroad programs, established in 1923 with trips on all 7 continents, one of the largest programs in the country. 3 signers of the declaration of independence went to Udel, and has one of the top 10 engineering programs in the country...what school do you go to?
And OP Penn state is a great school too, its so much fun one of my friends goes there and he has a blast!
(0)I think what's fucked up about this is your stepmom apparently doesn't care enough to actually *know* which school you're going to....
Anyone have any shit to talk about any of the UT schools? We haven't decided which city we're moving to yet, but there's a UT school in basically every one we're looking at. o.O
(0)#77:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Lampoon%27s_Animal_House
The screenplay was adapted by Douglas Kenney, Chris Miller and Harold Ramis from stories written by Miller and published in National Lampoon magazine based on his experiences in the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity at Dartmouth College, as well as Ramis's experiences in the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2006 Miller wrote a more comprehensive memoir of his experiences in Dartmouth's AD house in a book entitled: "The Real Animal House: The Awesomely Depraved Saga of the Fraternity That Inspired the Movie."
I didnt say filmed, I said it was BASED from Dartmouth.
(0)Last I heard (I work at PSU) it's the #2 party school in the country. So you'll be partying AND people will think you're IVY league. That's a win.
(0)her mistake for not paying attention.
(0)lol 81
and congrats on gettin in to penn state
(0)I go to Penn State, Its much better than U of Penn
Penn State> U of Penn> State Pen
LMFAO at the UPenners who are bragging about Philly. Absolutely hilarious. What's so awesome about that shithole again? The nearly guaranteed murder per day? Get real. Philly blows.
And being the guy who noted the pompous, man scarf-wearing dickhead phenomena at UPenn, I'm happy that everyone who's stepped up for that school on this thread has proven my point 100%. Like only Ivy Leaguers will be important in life. Wow. That's some pretty self-righteous bullshit.
You got the same thing we got for an extra thirty grand a year. Congratulations.
#85 - On 04/09/2009 at 1:35pm by officerpat
(0)Penn State is a great school! I haven't heard anything but amazing things about the school before I saw this FML. Congratulations on getting in!
Besides, I've met some UPenn students who have regretted paying so much in tuition.
They're paying all that extra money so they can puff their chests out a little farther and be a great deal douchier than the rest of the planet. Ivy League is a scam.
#87 - On 04/09/2009 at 1:39pm by officerpat
(0)officerpat, with your logic, why not go to community college and save even more money and not go to Penn State? Saying that the ivy league is a scam is total bullshit.
Our tuition doesn't even cost the whole part of the amount we're paying to go to these great schools. There's a reason why the ivy league is the ivy league. It's the best of the best- the best professors, the best students, and the best resources. Our libraries have the most books, our discussions are intectually vibrant, and our classes are tough yet fulfilling.
Best yet, we're need-blind for financial aid. If your parents are poor, then you can even go to these ivy league schools for free. For example, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, and Penn give aid instead of loans; the entire family's needs are met! One example, from princeton's website: Currently, the average financial aid grant covers 96 percent of Princeton’s tuition.
If you're smart, and you're capable of getting into these great schools, then financial matters shouldn't be a big concern. I don't know why an "officerpat" is so caught up on financial aid and how it's a scam.

(0)1st of all CONGRATS!!! PSU is amazing I am a freshman here now and I absolutely LOVE it!! There is sooo much to do here other than football games (not that they aren't awesome =] because they are this years Michigan State game is something I will always remember BIG TEN CHAMPS!!!!!) but there is a lot of other things to do, like THON, no matter what you are interested in I would recommend getting involved with THON.
#55 - sorry PSU is good at football, but thats not how i plan on advertising my education, but hell if talking about the football team helps me get a job then i'll use it. Penn State alumni are EVERYWHERE, even big cities like NYC and LA, so think twice before calling us yokels next time. Oh and football does help get student's jobs, i mean look at Aaron Maybin or Poz who is making more money than you playing for the Bills.
#60 - The Big Ten is NOT shit. so let's keep it recent, you know where Ohio State almost beat Texas and PSU played USC in the Rose Bowl. Let's not live in the past now. kthanks =]

(0)Universtiy of Cincinnati!
(+1)Umm, #27, do you live in Canada? Because post-secondary education is certainly not "free" here. It's significantly subsidized and therefore much cheaper and more accessible, but it is still an investment that leaves many people in debt for years after they finish.
And to all the people on this thread asserting their superiority for being "Ivy Leaguers": I'm really glad I live in Canada where we don't have an "Ivy League" and a university education is a university education; thereby avoiding the creation of pompous a**holes like you.
(0)Both of them are great schools. I was accepted at both, but decided on PSU simply because my parents said they would pay for my med school if I did undergrad at PSU. After 2 years in med school, I know I made the right choice. I've partied with Penn kids in University City, and PSU kids in University Park, and you can find plenty of douchebags in either place. I know lots of Penn kids at great grad schools/jobs, and my roommates from PSU are in a top 10 law school, 2 in top 25 med schools, and the other 2 are engineers making >80 large and getting their MBAs (1 from Wharton actually). So have a great time at PSU, and know that you can do whatever you want; PSU being a party school won't hold you back.
(0)I'm with #74, at least your stepmom is proud of you and is celebrating your success. I've been a B average student all my life and all I heard from my parents during my senior year of HS is how no college would accept me, and all their plans revolved around me not getting into college. Then when I was accepted at University of Illinois, my mother said "they'll accept anyone these days". FML
(0)Hahaha... this thread is hilarious. PSU is a good party school, might be going there if I can't afford American.
But yeah, definitely a FYL. Sorry your step mom got them mixed up broski!
Because community colleges are actually shit. Who attends those? Kids who did meth in high school and had no hope for anything else.
Your pompous belief that us Penn Staters will end up in middle management in corporate America while you get into some awesome firm, that's just horseshit. No one's gonna look down on us for going to school here. This is an amazing university and its degree commands respect. Think what you want, but I wouldn't trade with you in a million years.
By the way, you're still coming off like a self-important fag. I don't know why I'm surprised.
#95 - On 04/09/2009 at 2:11pm by officerpat
(0)Penn State is a good school i agree with everyone who says this is a stupid fml...if you were actually going to some community college well then ya that would be more understandable but ya again this is stupid
(0)I don't get this at all, it's kinda stupid.
(0)REMINDER: Fighting over the internet is like winning at the special olympics, you're still retarded.
(0)Not even an FML. Penn State is a fantastic school. I don't even go there and I know that. Don't know why they wouldn't be equally as happy that you are going to Penn State instead, and I don't know why you'd be ashamed of it.
(0)Dude, i'm from Philly and i go to Penn State. I can tell you right now, while the degree might not be as valuable, PSU is a great school and a whole lot more fun than Penn. Get football tickets and rub it in to your ivy league friends when we take the national championship next year. WE ARE!!!!
(0)#27, are you on crack? Judging from the steadily dropping balance in my bank account I most definitely am not getting my education for free. Our unis may be somewhat cheaper (though not drastically so) than American public universities, but it's still expensive.
(0)main campus? if so that's awesome and pretty difficult to get into..so congrats on getting into college though lol!
(0)Oh and Canada definitely doesn't have Ivy League Colleges...wait do they have colleges? I thought all Canucks went to American Universities or became fur trappers.
P.S. I actually love Canada, Vancouver is maybe the best city in North America.
(0)why is this an fml?
just be thankful you are getting a good education.
(0)all yalll who are bashing on UPenn, shut your face.
im sure PSU is great and all, but UPenn is just as awesome.
YLF. ;-)
(0)#104, don't forget lumberjacks and professional hockey players.
(0)As someone who goes to UPenn, is from Canada, and has NEVER, EVER met someone who knows what UPenn is, I absolutely feel your pain. Want to know one of THE most popular campus Facebook groups for freshmen? "Not Penn State" hehe. Next is probably "Penn Students for Bulldozing Drexel". I didn't even realize what Drexel was until I went jogging.
I'm incredibly surprised that your experience went in the OTHER direction. Maybe our school is finally getting its name out there??? Though, to be fair, I did always get recognition if, instead of Penn, I said I was going to "Wharton". Doing so would piss off just about everyone at Penn who ISN'T in Wharton (i.e. all the girls) so that usually is a bad idea.
To all the haters...what on earth is a man-scarf? And trust me, a conversation about Plato can be highly amusing if you're completely wasted/hung over in said cafe. Not that I'd know. I don't know shit about Plato.
(0)#60... penn state didnt play texas.................... fail on your part.
#109 - On 04/09/2009 at 3:13pm by kellyyo
(0)#93
thats an fml!
(0)"I didnt say filmed, I said it was BASED from Dartmouth."
You most definitely said "based AT Dartmouth," which implies that the film was set there. None of that changes the fact that some of you Ivy Leaguers display incredibly pretentious attitudes as to where people will inevitably wind up once graduating from your respective institutions. No one is saying that Ivy League schools are a waste of money to get the same education that you could get somewhere else; however, to imply that people who go to Penn State (or any other public institution) will only wind up in middle management for the rest of their lives is complete and utter bullshit.
(0)both are GREAT schools. I also went to UPenn, transferring out now to a state school for a major change - Penn's not the best for everyone. I've been frequently offended by the "oh, Penn State? awesome!" and had to correct with "no, Ivy, not football". ironically, now heading to a huge football school.
I've noticed that the confusion is more evident on the West Coast though, average californian doesn't know Ivies at all, whereas northeast people constantly have our heads shoved into the discrimination.
it's dumb that it's UPENN in the first place- only private school w/ a state in the name? i vote change to "Benjamin Franklin University".
(0)To the OP: Have a good time at PSU, but don't act like these idiots:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDiRPUiQZHc
(0)I agree with #3, if I was her I would disown you for not getting into an Ivy League school.
(0)I'm surprised you even got into a state school, your step mother "threw" you a party. You must have done well in english class.
(0)It could be worse.
Like for some reason no one in New York can grasp the concept that Michigan State =/= Michigan.
(0)this isn't a FML. who cares if you didn't get into an ivy league?? you're going to a good school.
&&UPenn isn't even a well known ivy league, so who gives a flip.
(0)#115, I'm not quite sure what your issue with the OP's writing is. "Throw a party" is a perfectly reasonable and commonly used expression. The past tense of that would be "threw a party" just as the OP said.
(0)#115, are you sure YOU made it into college??? how well were YOUR english grades? they used the correct word, and obviously, you're an idiot.
(0)yeah, penn state is an amazinggg school, and it is hard to get into. so you should be proud of yourself, and i'm sure that when everyone found out it was penn state you were going to, they were still very proud of you.
(0)Your stepmom's the one that should be embarrassed. Penn State's still a great school and it's hard to get into. Who cares if it's not Ivy League?
Although I guess it would kind of suck if everyone was so happy for you that you were going there and then you had to tell them that you weren't actually going to an Ivy League school...
I was #32. I go to an Ivy league. No not UPENN. I'll keep it confidential. Are you serious? You call those credentials. And no, UDEL is not a top engineering program, it is good, but not one of the top. Everyone here that says a top 100 school is good is ridiculous. People get into top 50-100 schools with 3.0-3.5 GPAs and 1600-2000 SAT scores. That is terrible. Give me a break. Penn State is decent, but terrible compared to UPENN.
(0)Don't worry about it. For my graduation party my sister wrote all over the invitations, "Congrats Michelle for getting into Dartmouth University!"
Why this was probably more of an fml:
I was going to an IVY league school and my sister made herself look like an idiot in front of the entire family. Even when I told her it's Dartmouth College, she still said University. Now my family thinks I'm either lying about coming to Dartmouth or thinks I'm going to UMass Dartmouth. Two VERY different schools.
Penn State is a great school.
Be proud of where you go, and don't be ashamed to tell your family the truth. Better than them finding out later and casting judgment not only on the school you actually do go to, but also on your ability to be honest with them.
(0)Roll with it, imo.
When introducing themselves, a bunch of my friends that went to Samford will say the name really fast, and if the other person hears Stanford, they don't correct them.
(0)U of Penn isn't one of the ivy leagues. It's just hard to get into. But boo who, how upset can you get if you didn't even apply there.
(0)PSU is too good for a snob like you
(0)#125 UPenn is an ivy league.
http://www.upenn.edu/
Written bright as day: proud ivy league tradition.
(0)umm she sucks for assuming that and embarassing you like that..haha, sorry for that.
(0)ROFL. Penn State's my safety school. I'm a legacy to Penn.
Honestly, its your mother's fault for not following up, not yours.

(0)penn state is a really good school tho
(0)Ahem. Penn State is amazing. Be happy!
Fuck UPenn.
Penn State's where it's at!
(0)I go to UPenn, and I didn't have anyone confused when I got in. That's probably because my graduating class sent about 50 people to Penn State.
(0)My mom got me a pair of sweats from UPenn where she went to school, they're super comfortable so i wear them to school, and everyone asks me if it's PennState, and when I reply, no UPenn, they get confused. Hardly anyone has heard of the Ivy League School. Hah.
#139 - On 04/09/2009 at 5:52pm by amoureaux
(0)#129, LMAO -- "I"m a legacy to Penn" -- million bucks says you don't get in. A friend of mine thought he was a Penn "legacy" too. Wound up at Iowa State for grad school. Don't count your chickens just yet.
To the OP, this is not an FML. Penn State is far superior and far more fun than UPenn. And that "Ivy League" education mystique is just that.
(0)I'm actually a grad student at Penn, people in Philadelphia don't know the distinction between us and PSU so don't feel to bad. Penn State is a good school and you'll get way better football than you would here.
(0)hahahah I'm going to UPenn and everyone thinks I'm going to Penn State!
(0)Penn State is also a kickass school that's hard to get into. Either way, well done. Not a FML.
lol my sister goes to upenn and everyone confuses it with penn state. almost anyone can get into penn state.
#144 - On 04/09/2009 at 6:18pm by cc17
(0)I don't even know why this is a FML. Penn State is a really good school that is really difficult to get into to. So...What's the problem?
(0)#131:
"are most of the idiots commenting too lazy to check wikipedia?
PENN STATE = THIRD TIER TOILET"
Heh. you're relying on WIKIPEDIA for information? penn state is a really good TIER ONE university. check US News. idiot. :)
(0)I'm goin to Penn State next year too, I got many cards that said, congrats on UPenn! My counselor cant keep it straight either.
146: sorry buddy, but you haven't heard of the term "TTT" (third tier toilet) used pejoratively?
In the world of law school admissions, the only schools that matter are the Top 14. Everything outside of that is a "TTT". The use of "TTT" has crossed over into academic niches, where it is now pejoratively used to refer to a subpar institution.

(0)lol don't hate man, my entire family went to penn state. the only reason i'm not is because we moved down to virginia
(0)I think I speak for the majority when I say Penn State is better than UPenn. WE ARE!

(0)whatever, just correct them, be glad to go to college, and glad that your friends and family CARE
Wow, Redwall, you reek of insecurity. Is it your 3 inch dick that makes you shit-talk other schools on an internet message board, or your chronic back acne?
You're really acting like you've got something to prove, and I have lots of doubts that someone with your insecure and immature mentality would be at an Ivy League school. If you indeed are, my opinion on them has decreased even further.
Go get some pussy. Maybe you won't be such an assclown then.
#154 - On 04/09/2009 at 7:37pm by officerpat
(0)at least you aren't the UPenn student that everyone thinks was only good enough for a state school.
OBSERVATION: officerpat is guilty of what we call a "performative contradiction!"
calling someone out on being immature and insecure, while demonstrating those very qualities in other posts in this very thread!
#156 - On 04/09/2009 at 7:48pm by darkarmour
(0)I bet you didn't even bother to correct them, did you?
Oh well, Penn State is a really good school!
(0)#151- wow has been football team????? where do you get your information? Penn State finished 8th in the nation this year, Big Ten Champs and took a trip to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl...a BCS game. and also i wouldnt talk badly about the WE ARE when you dont know what it means. so next time do your research then talk.
I'm defending my school against the arrogant scumbags in the Ivy League who think they're the shit and everyone else is just plain old shit. One would think if you guys were all as important as you claim to be, you'd be spending less time on the internet and more time curing AIDS and hosting peace conferences with Nelson Mandela.
I just don't get the pompousness. Is it necessary? Congrats, you were simply a bit more of a dork in high school and got laid a bit less. High school isn't impossibly hard. Anyone can succeed, and any one can ace that shit. But some people, like me, didn't care enough to put in any extreme amount of effort like the dweeby valedictorian kids did (at least at my high school).
I never studied, I had a great social life, I got pretty good grades and got into Penn State which is going to get me everywhere in life I could ever wish to go.
Any of you Ivy faggots study economics? Look at marginal benefits and marginal costs. The marginal cost of the extra hours of studying that it would have taken to get a 4.0 and go to Yale was not worth it to me. It's not that I couldn't. It's that I saw the whole thing as pretty menial and didn't give a shit about it.
I'm pretty sure that's the case with anyone. Some tragically mislead people care about shit like GPA; others see deeper things in life and don't care about this stuff that is meaningless in the end. So get over yourselves.
#159 - On 04/09/2009 at 8:25pm by officerpat
officerpat... you aren't planning on grad school, are you?
#160 - On 04/09/2009 at 8:30pm by darkarmour
(0)#159. I can see why you went to Penn State.
Later, perhaps; now, no. And while I don't give a shit about my GPA, and I don't put in any extra effort to enhance it, it is good enough to get into a decent grad school if I ever want to.
But my plan is different. As it is now, I'm going into the Army. Go ahead, tell me some super-liberal shit about how the military is for losers and people who couldn't get a real job. This is all I want to do, and for me, it IS grad school. The military, given I behave honorably, is the perfect starting point for everything I would want to do later.
That's mainly why my GPA isn't a big concern for me. I'm graduating in May, I'll be in training by July and I'll be an officer by next January. Grades are just a means to an end, and my grades have gotten me where I want to go. So I'm set.

(0)PENN STATE IS THE BEST COLLEGE IN THE WORLD
(0)Fuck college, I'm on a boat motherfucker.
(0)I can totally relate. I eventually stopped correcting people when they congratulated me for getting into PSU. Let them think I'm smarter than I am.
(0)dear #113,
that video you are parading around us not true of penn state fans. in fact, the one kid who clearly throws the beer at the ohio state fans is a pitt student. get your facts straight.
also, #164, penn state is a university. the best in the world!
additionally, #151, we are is our thing. you don't like it? you can shove it. also, check your facts. penn state UNIVERSITY PARK students are not b averages and middle sat scores. most of us are students who could've gone to upenn but chose to have an excellent college experience. do NOT compare us to the mediocre branch campus students.
love, a true penn stater
#167 - On 04/09/2009 at 9:07pm by kellyyo
lol@ officerpat... still drawing on your impressive arsenal of personal insults to defend your PSU-love and UPenn-hate.
#168 - On 04/09/2009 at 9:09pm by darkarmour
(0)Penn State is ranked 47th and is said to be, "more selective" NOT "most selective". Meaning it is not that difficult to get into as other schools are. They accept about half of their students. Which is a lot when compared to the likes of other schools. It also accepts applications on a rolling basis. Meaning that they continue to take in students until the class fills up. Here are the facts. Draw whichever conclusions you see fit.
However, to the douche who wanted to run his mouth about how Ivy League students aren't studying economics and how we are full of shit, listen to this. UPenn has the top ranked business program in the country. Look at its ranking on US News. While I don't go to UPenn (I'm stationed in Hanover), I still respect its tradition as a fellow ivy league institution. Not every Ivy League student is an asshole. Your inability to work hard and your half ass attempts at a social life at the price of getting good grades makes you a pathetic loser. You are an adult now you dick. Grow the fuck up and move on with the rest of the world.
You nonchalant attitude is neither cool or inspiring. So STFU.

(0)shit.. Penn State is an amazing school
(0)hey, dont trip its college! i mean, youre still getting a good education and itll be really fun. penn state is the lions or is that upenn? whatever, either way, just dont correct em, if they think ur goin to upenn, let em, if someone asks, tell em penn state
(0)#170...
"Acceptance Rate: 51%"
Penn State University Park != crap branch campuses
(0)i love when people refuse to acknowledge the stats
(0)Hey, they do call the Big 10 schools the public Ivy Leagues, so you are still going to a really good school.
(0)It's definitely not about the stats. I don't really care about the "stats". And it's not about PSU being better than UPenn.
What it's about is that there's really no other school like Penn State. Sorry, but there just isn't. It's not just the football, it's everything. I go to main campus and there's really nothing like it. When I got in, some of my family members made the same mistake and called it UPenn, big deal, I corrected them and moved on.
GO TO PENN STATE!!!
Penn State is a CULTURE, it's a way of life, and it's about having pride! That's why we say:
WE ARE!!!
(0)@177 oh dont get me wrong. college is college, but what bothers me are the people who say penn state is better than upenn on the basis they go to penn state. if u have no experience of the life at upenn than ur not in a position to place penn state ahead of upenn. i at least give the upenn ppl some credit cause they claim to be a better school with stats to back it up.
in the end who gives a fuck. go to college. go party. fuck some bitches. get a degree. make some money. go party some more.
(0)To #38: You have the most pretentious attitude I have ever seen. You really think you're the shit don't you? There are plenty of Ivy League grads who end up climbing up the "middle management" ladder, living in 200k houses, having six kids, going to PTA, and having a middle class lifestyle. Get over yourself. The Ivy League is not a ticket to an upper class life. Hard work and dedication are. Penn State and UPenn don't define who you are, you do. In no way are the kids who go to UPenn superior to the kids who go to Penn State. To all of those Ivy Leaguers who think you are the shit: you're not. This is your wake up call. Oh, BTW, I am reppin from Cambridge, MA.
(0)HAHAHA... oh officerpat. you are hilarious man! all you did was stereotype the intelligent people in the world. And no, if you tried in High School you would NOT have gotten into an Ivy. Maybe a high GPA because high school is easy, but you seem like a pretty incompetent guy that would not do well on the SAT. And its more than just grades and test scores btw.
Have fun in the army, because Penn State probably did not get you a job in this economy.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE never never never ever ever ever recite MC and MB to describe why you are a screw up in life..... LOL... good job you took introductory microeconomics. Come back when you actually learn that that stuff is pointless, and go learn some real business. You dish that stuff out in an interview you are done homey! hahahaha. You state schoolers are hilarious... I mean the engineers and science/math majors are smart, but the business students are ridiculous.
(0)Officerpat. Listen.
* Never talk about economics again. Your intro level knowledge and rudimentary level of intelligence makes me feel dumber. I have once again lost respect for state school business students.
* Yes I go to an Ivy. Yes I have a summer job to go to. Yes it is at a top firm. Yes you are going to the army. Yes Penn State got you nowhere in this economy.
(0)Boo hoo
at least you're going to college
at least it's better than community college
(0)enuyp: No one cares about your lousy summer job. I highly doubt you go to an Ivy if you think "going to the army" makes you an inferior person. I know tons of MIT classmates who went on to become Navy SEALs, Marines, etc. Shut your mouth before you embarrass yourself.
(0)Rawr, people on this thread are so stuck up. I'm sure not all people at UPenn are arrogant, but seriously. I mean, extremely intelligent people get rejected from these schools because they're so competitive and a lot of people simply can't afford it.
Get over yourself #42. There are tons of prestigious schools that aren't Ivies. To say all people that go to state school can't have high positions is absurd. There are many fantastic state schools.
(0)Don't worry, the Big Ten is where it's at anyway...
On Wisconsin
(0)penn state is almost impossible to get into, be grateful you made it in.
#186 - On 04/10/2009 at 2:12am by m3l
(0)#185 Fuck yeah! On Wisconsin! :D
Anyway, beyond this asinine discussion of whose school is best, blah blah blah, I can see how that would be disappointing. Penn State is a great school, but it's probably a bitch to explain to everyone that it's not UPenn, especially at having a party for acceptance to UPenn...
#187 - On 04/10/2009 at 3:08am by Minstrels
I did great on the SAT. Suck my cock, faggot.
#188 - On 04/10/2009 at 3:20am by officerpat
(0)Have you explained this to them?
(0)Penn State sucks. Nothing against state schools. But Penn State is horrible. Have you ever been to State College, Pa? The only to do there is get wasted. The campus is huge, and the only thing in that town. Also, Penn States's five million branch campuses make it so if you basically pass high school with like a 2.5 you can get in there. But the kids at all the branches still tell you proudly that they go to PSU. If your dorm is in Altoona, you DON'T go to Penn State. I can at least respect the people at main, even if they are mostly douches. But don't be in denial about those fucking branches. And sure, they do have a good football team, but Joe Pa is way past his prime. Does he even really coach anymore? And basketball? I saw more coverage of the D-II tourney than the NIT.
Dude, I'm at main, and people who attend branch campuses are cheatin' motherfuckers. I'm not alone.

that video you are parading around us not true of penn state fans. in fact, the one kid who clearly throws the beer at the ohio state fans is a pitt student. get your facts straight."
If you actually watch the video, there are clearly more people than "the one guy from pittsburgh" throwing beer cans at the OSU fans.
Also...... In 2005, members of OSU's band claimed that PSU students assaulted them with urine-filled balloons. After seeing PSU students act like this...... how could you not believe them?
I am not trying to say that OSU fans have never gotten out of line.... we have our fair share of asshats. But we have never tried to assault anyone's band...
(0)Wow and you're complaining?
(0)#170, blow me, how about that? at least that's something penn staters know how to do because we all know upenn kids don't get any.
additionally, i said MOST. we do have some idiots who go here but i know a lot of people who are ridiculously smart and could've gone somewhere better. but did not. why don't you come here and learn how to stfu because you'd be jealous as soon as you got here? i'd visit upenn but...oh yeah...i already live in philly and i know it's a piece of shit.
also, those stats are from about.com. wowwww i'm so upset. i love when people site dumb stats.
and yes, 173, we're the nittany lions!
and yeah we've gotten very selective (to university park) in hte last few years because more students have been accepted than can be handled. my class (2011) was one of the most in recent history. and, what? what's that? penn state is the most applied to school in the country? oh yeah, that is right.
dear upenn, be jealous. love, penn state
#195 - On 04/10/2009 at 10:10am by kellyyo
(0)193,
though penn staters were also harassing the ohio state fans, it was determined that it was mostly the work of a few pitt students. i mean, we are proud and we do crazy stuff, but that was not the video to cite. it raised a whole big thing up here until the frat and pitt kids were blamed. it does not represent the entire student body.
additionally, ohio state's band is lame. and i've never heard of anything like that so i don't believe that.
just as you have your fair share of asshats, so do we. most of us are respectful outside the stadium to individuals, but once you get inside, you're fair game. and since the beav is one of the most intimidating places to play in, you better expect it.
#196 - On 04/10/2009 at 10:13am by kellyyo
(0)190, the nit was on espn you piece of crap. and how dare you speak badly of joepa. HOW DARE YOU! he is a legend and more of a man than you will ever be. and penn state does not suck. obviously there is more to do than get wasted. we also watch football...ha. we have an entire university with anything you could ever need (well except our own huge hospital, but we have that at hershey, a few hours away... but obv we have hospitals here too, we just dont own them). and we all know the branch campuses suck. stop telling us things we already say all the time.
#197 - On 04/10/2009 at 10:16am by kellyyo
(0)I go to Penn State there is nothing wrong with the school. To those who have said it is hard to get into it actually is. Its a great school you'll love it!
(0)@ 171
Actually, first year acceptance to University Park (main campus) is about 17%, which is very selective(8,000 freshman got into UP last year out of 48,000 applications). Also, since you're so into stats:
Fulbright Scholars: Penn State ranks 1st nationally
National Science Foundation Student Fellowships: Penn State ranks 1st in Big Ten
Student-run Philanthropy: Penn State ranks 1st
2009 Dance Marathon raised $7.49 million for children with cancer
Graduates Living in United States: Penn State ranks 1st
I'm not saying that UPenn isn't a good school, but Penn State is an awesome school as well, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Oh, and an article you may be interested in...
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/departments/college/?article=ivyleagueworthit
(0)Okay, people on here really need to stop bashing each other. It's not necessary. UPenn is a great school and people have worked their butts off to get in there and it will (most likely) pay off after graduation. But the same is true of PSU students, especially if they are main campus. Penn State accepts A average students with good GPAs. In most cases, students also need that extra boost of activities that they did during high school to also be accepted. PSU isn't one of the most expensive state schools for no reason. People who go to Penn State have amazing opportunities to succeed in life and they have the resources to get there too.
Penn State also isn't easy once you've been accepted. Unless you're freakishly smart, you will have to work your butt off to maintain good grades. You will pull all nighters, you will spend your Saturdays locked away in your room/library, but if you manage your time well you can also take a part in everything else that Penn State has to offer. You can have fun at the various sports events (the football games really are as amazing as everyone says, and volleyball/wrestling matches are free so take advantage of that), participate in THON which is an event that has personally changed my life, or if frat parties are your thing you can party it up with the best.
I'm not saying that Penn State is "the best school out there". I love it and I can't imagine being anywhere else. UPenn is an amazing school too, though, with amazing opportunities. This arguement between the two is childish.
For the person who actually made this post: go to Penn State, get involved with something that you're passionate for, study hard but play harder, and make the most of your college experience. For the glory!

(0)Not an FML, PSU is a very good school.
(0)Be excited! It's not called Happy Valley for no reason!
People are being way too harsh on Penn State...it's a great school with everything you could possibly want. I couldn't picture myself anywhere else.
WE ARE!
(0)Thats alright. My roommate freshman year at Penn State thought she was attending an Ivy League, U Penn. Now THAT is an FML
(0)To 181
I would just like to say that your comment about state business schools is a huge generalization and I feel that the comment was unwarranted. I was unable to view the post you were responding to, and, though I do this in fear of sounding trite, two wrongs do not make a right. Ivies are not the only good schools. Take, for example, the University of Virginia which has the McIntire School of Commerce. McIntire is the top ranked undergraduate business program in the country (source http://bwnt.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/undergrad_bschool_2009/). U.Va. also has the Dardan School of Business, which is consistently ranked in the top 15 best business schools in the world. At the moment it is ranked 14th, above schools such as Carnegie Mellon and Georgetown (source http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/mba/search)
Penn State is a great school with an amazing undergraduate experience. My mother attended Penn State and she has gone far in life. She was the first member of her family to go to college and because of her education at Penn State she was able to travel all over the world to places like Singapore, Germany, Greece, Korea, France, Turkey, and others.

(0)I thought this would be the other way around... most people I've talked to make Penn St sound better than U Penn
(0)What's with all the community college bashing? I graduated from high school with a 4.0, went to community for two years, then to a four year university after. Students who go to community colleges aren't the ones who did drugs throughout high school. I paid my own way, and now have a well paying job, and no college loans to pay off.
Sorry, just had to stick up for the community college students. Anyway, congrats on getting in to PSU. Once you graduate, it isn't the school behind your degree that will get you the job, it's you. I've seen plenty of people who look awesome on paper, but after getting to know them in an interview, they're really not an ideal candidate for the job.
(0)you're dumb
this isn't an FML
Penn State is a nice school
(0)"shocked"? that sucks.
lol everyone from my school goes to Penn State. literally EVERYONE. i'm pretty sure like 60% of last year's graduating class went there.
(0)come off that bullshit #38, philly kicks the ass of wherever you grew up.
(0)Penn State is still a good school. Do well there, and you can go to UPenn for grad school, saving you $150,000.
(0)Whoa, this thread is pretty funny. Both schools are great and everyone's entitled to showing a little school pride. Personally, I've visited PSU and had a great time, but I wouldn't trade in my years at UPenn for anything. (The look people give you when you tell them where you graduated from never gets old)The Ivy-League environment shapes your life in more ways than you can imagine. It is true that your success and your work ethic are correlated, regardless of the institution that you graduate from, but no one can deny that "who you know" counts more than "what you know". The Wharton name has carried me even further than my merit alone. As far as grades, no one really cares what your GPA was once you've graduated. Cost isn't an argument either. People pay a premium on school for the same reason that they pay a premium for any other luxury item. Think of car...there are plenty of inexpensive cars that are gas-efficient and have better safety rankings. But in the end, you will take a Mercedes over a Mercury if you can afford to. If people were that practical, luxury items would disappear.
Basically, no one needs to knock anyone's school...but I had to show some love for UPenn

(0)169: Actually, I believe they accept ALL their students. Otherwise, they wouldn't be students.
The word you are looking for is "applicants." And of course Penn State has a higher acceptance rate than UPenn. The school is bigger, therefore the student body is bigger, therefore the more people they're able to admit.
UPenn, however, has to be "most selective" because their school is smaller. Oh, it's also smaller because they really prefer to only let in the most pompous of the pompous douchebags that apply.
(0)I'm sure PSU will be a lot better! I hope it is since I got accepted too. Look forward to sharing my freshman year with you.
(0)this is actually a really common occurance. I'm from PA and for years I've been trying to explain the difference between U Penn and Penn State. I'm a Penn State student and I say congrats, it's a great school and lots of fun. And anyone who doesn't know the difference between UPenn and Penn State is not quite the brightest crayon in the box. :-) Enjoy Penn State, it's the tits!!!!
(0)UPenn: 6th in the nation, 12th in the world
Penn State: ????
That's not being pompous, those are facts.
(0)I only read half of this thread before giving up on it.
1. The penn state people commenting on here are way more pompous sounding than any of the upenn people. Stop being so DEFENSIVE.
2. Bullshit about the "great education at half the ivy league price". I applied to public schools, private schools, and two ivies. Going to princeton costs me a third of what it would have cost me to go to university of delaware. The thing about ivy leagues is that have the MONEY and will make it affordable.
Similar story: I got waitlisted (then rejected) at Upenn and my brother went around telling everyone I got rejected from Penn State. Gah!
(0)UPenn: 6th in the nation, 12th in the world.
Straight facts man.
(0)weiiiird, i just got back from visiting psu an hour ago. i love it.

(0)I visited PSU and applied there. I also visited Penn and applied there. I chose Penn.
- Keep in mind that Penn's high tuition is often ofset by financial aid.
- People who go to Penn are not characteristically pompous. Just because a student attends an Ivy doesn't mean they brag about intelligence, wealth, etc.
- That said, it should not be considered "pompous" of me to say that I am amazed at how bright everyone is here (Penn). It's a great place that is made possible by the really diverse group of smart people I've met.
After two visits to PSU, including a Fri-Sat-Sun visit with friends of mine that go there, I can't say the same special atmosphere holds true for Penn State.
If I went to an Ivy League school, I am confident the people would annoy me so much, I'd resort to serial killing. Seriously. I've met Ivy Leaguers, and I'd put every single one of them on my personal list of shittiest people I know. There isn't a single one of them whom I didn't feel like punching in the face.
Final point, Penn might be better than Penn State, academics wise (socially and athletically, kiss my ass). But Penn State is still an amazing school and my degree will get me everywhere I want to go. Those of you who think the Penn Staters here are going to end up in shitty, mid-level corporate America, get off your high horse. That's straight up bullshit. And I wouldn't trade my college experience for any other one on this planet.
By the way, resorting to college rankings is a huge fail.

i go away for a day and this thread is STILL going? holy fuck, man.
PSU - University Park's acceptance rate is 51%. That's the self-reported stat that the school submits to USNWR. FWIW, it's also on PSU's wikipedia page.
PSU is actually not the school that receives the most applications a year. That honor belongs to UCLA.

(0)pat, you wish you could make middle management. Enjoy the army. I hope you don't die, seriously.
God you're a prick. You belong in the Ivy League.

(0)Honestly,let's just accept the fact that UPenn is a more prestigious school, has more money, provides a much more fulfilling college experience for its students. But unfortunately, there's actually no point debating which school is a better choice because the type of people who are accepted to Penn State probably didn't get into Upenn, and the type of ppl who can get into Upenn will be debating between other Ivys/tier one schools. People rarely deliberate between going to PSU or UPenn because the two schools attract very different types of people. I'm from PA, and I am very sick of the defensiveness of PSU people who think they go to a good school but doesn't have any data/facts/statistics to back themselves up.
See? A pompous faggot. I'm gonna have a real hard time mourning the next time some whacko shoots a bunch of cocksuckers at one of these pretentious places. Good riddance.

And Upenn, since you criticize Penn Staters for bringing proof that PSU is a good school, where is your proof that it is NOT a good school? A bit hypocritical of you, don't ya think?
Know what I'm sick of? Ivy Leaguers who are convinced that they will be the only ones getting good jobs and succeeding in life. Really, what the fuck is that shit? Get over yourselves.
I agree with the Canadian girl earlier who said she's glad that in Canada, university is university and there's not one group of douchebags raising their prices, adopting funny names and acting all self important. This shit is tiresome.

(0)oficerpat:
I went to PSU undergrad (University Park) and now go to UPenn for graduate school. I like both for different reasons, even if UPenn is superior academically. You sound like a pompous ass, and appear to be much more conceited than everyone I have come across at this Ivy League institution.
In conclusion, shut the fuck up you raging idiot.
(0)lol why are you guys still arguing, no one cares where you went to college.
(0)sux for you.
you should try being smarter.
(0)thank you #227
(0)227, right on
(0)........
(0)what's the big deal? you still got into college, and a pretty good one at that. douche
(0)PSU was my third choice, and ended up going there (after UConn and UMass rejected me), and honestly, I'm glad I went there. I can understand why the OP is bummed about it, but seriously, you got into a GOOD university, and that's how I saw it. And by the beginning of my freshman year, I was psyched. So I hope you're not embarrassed that you got into Penn State.
And yes, while I was up there, PENNSYLVANIANS asked me if I went to the "campus in Philly." You'd think they know their own schools, right? I just shrugged it off and said "yes"
(0)I go to PSU!!!! BEST SCHOOL EVER!!!
(0)I don't go to any IVY league, I just wanted to drop by and say Penn State sucks and officerpat is a douche bag.
(0)not an fml
do you know how many people would LOVE to go to penn state
jerk
(0)Penn State is the BONB!!!
(0)OP, @ least u didn't go 2 the State Penn instead...RDRR...
(0)The reason why this is an FMl is because now she has to tell everyone that she didn't get into the school which they think she did. I'm going to a SUNY school and I am proud of it!
(0)HAHA FYL
Only because PENN STATE SUX BALLS!!!!!!!!!!
If it was any other school this would so not be an FML
(0)I got accepted to Penn State without finishing the application or paying the application fee. I think they take everyone...
(0)at least they think ur smart enogh to go.
