How does it get so cold in South Carolina?
#19 It was 17 F here last night, which in South Carolina, is COLD.
its -24 Celcius here in canada bro, u got it easy
I agree. I'm in Alaska and haven't been above single digits in a month. These things happen to people who aren't familiar with the cold and is totally avoidable.
-8C froze your pipes after a few hours without heating? Do you live in a paper house? Does your home not have a door?
ouuch :( man, that sucks! fyl.
I agree with 7... dogs pee on the carpet.. train it to go outside?
what a great way to start off your new year(:
If you had a gas fireplace you wouldn't be using propane. They are two different types of gases.
#23, we most certainly do have a gas fireplace than runs on propane :) Most of them do in this part of the country. Others may run on natural gas, but it's not available here.

Looks like a job for Hank Hill.

Thank you. Now I don't regret reading these comments. :)
So then its a fireplace that runs on propane, not a gas fireplace.
In places where natural gas isn't a common thing many people call propane fireplaces gas fireplaces. Even in places where its not a bitch to get a gas line put in, people will refer to a propane fireplace as a gas fireplace on occasion.
The coldest morning of the year? It's January 3rd. Maybe coldest morning of the season.
Is one of these one that are worded so that they happened today when actually it's just because FML makes you write "Today"? Because if it's not, then it's only the 3rd day of the year. But I'm doubting that, so I will say FYL.
#10 don't complain to #9 who is complaining to #3 who is complaining to # 1 and comment
trough the carpet out... and the dog..
Move somewhere where its not cold during winter, stop whining, YDI loser
That sucks. I live in CT. it's been around 5 degrees all week with the wind chill and snowing on and off for four days.
FYL for no heat and no water and pee in your carpet :(

Who doesn't love Cold Weather?
So which is it? A gas fireplace or a propane fireplace? I'll have to agree your life is f\/ck3d if you can't tell the difference between the two, don't know to keep the thing in fuel, and don't have enough presence of mind to watch a weather report to keep water dripping so it won't freeze the pipe, or, take care of your dog's needs. How did you ever master getting this far on the computer? Do I have to type that it's a rhetorical question?
at lest the dog didn't run out of pee nor did it freeze:/
I hear that North Carolina runs some pretty harsh winters. I never recall it being cold enough to snow, no less freeze your pipes. -.-
wow ur dog PEED oh NOOO. The world is gonna end!!! u lazy butt.
this no fml. that happens all the time. at least it wasn't cat pee
yeah i know how that goes my pipes froze today too, just got to deal with it even though it sucks
I call BS. I highly doubt that having a fireplace shut off for a few hours caused your house to get cold enough to freeze water pipes, especially since the OP lives in South Carolina.
their pipes didnt freeze because their house was cold..they froze because it was one of the coldest days this year..and just because they live in south carolina that doesn't mean its not cold, my cousin lives there and told me the low temp for tonight is 20 degrees..that may not be cold to people who live up north but thats cold enough for things to freeze
And being in South Carolina means that the house is not insulated for the cold and that it is imperative the pipes remain above freezing temperature by actual heat such as the fireplace, it doesn't exactly take forever for water to freeze. The pipes may well have frozen even with the heater if it is really cold, trust me it happened at my parent's house when I was in highschool. Really lame night involving water, space heaters and blow dryers blugh.
I'm sorry OP pipes freezing sucks always. The dog thing sucks too but that's your fault for either ignoring it too long or training your dog horribly.
The funniest part about this for me is that I live in California, and I've been wearing shorts and t-shirts because it's around 70 degrees here. :D
atleast you'll have hot water lol
FYL for all but the last. YDI for keeping an animal around the house. You probably knew it was gonna do that sooner or later. It isn't just misfortune.
YDI, freezing pipes are easily preventable. Just be glad they didn't rupture and flood your house.
I'm pretty sure propane is a gas... but what would I know?
I live in sunny FLORIDA! haha. 52 degrees today.
Well at least you know where the warmest spot in the house is!
@mathman101
-24•C?!? are u kidding me!!!
#61 - On 01/04/2010 at 2:02am by adi2
That isn't that cold.. while working in Saskatoon last year it dipped past -45C and we've gone below -50C in my hometown with wind chill.
lol yeah
today was -25 degrees but i hve it easy, im in ontario, the warm part of canada LOL!
how is it the coldest day of the year, if the year JUST started...
Then it isn't exactly that hard is it?
Comparisons can be made on any size dataset, though its significance is another matter.
YDI. all of that couldve been prevented by u in the first place.
1. keep an xtra tank of propane.
2. winterize ur pipes.
3. train ur dumb dog.
4. try not failing nxt time.
Today, my dog did what dogs normally do. FML
shut the hell up..big whoop, ur dog peed on the carpet..it happens. clean it up
