Man or woman?

Today, is my birthday and my friends and I went to our favorite pub to celebrate. As I'm a little broke at the moment, they all offered to buy me birthday drinks. Which I later learned meant that they would order them for me and bring it to the table, but put everything on my tab. FML

I agree, your life sucks (17221) - you totally deserved it (1275)

you're friends are douche bags obviously. anyone who would make you pay for your own birthday dinner are incredibily rude!

Making someone pay for their birthday dinner isn't horrible. Telling them that you'll pay for it, then not doing so? That's beyond rude.

"Making someone pay for their birthday dinner isn't horrible."

You're kidding me, right?

they said they'll pay and they didnt. and it was ur birthday. some friends u got

#19 - On 12/11/2009 at 4:01pm by jessxoxo28

(0)

No, #5 is right. It's not horrible to expect the birthday person to pay for their own meal, UNLESS (and this is what #5 said) you've offered to pay and then leave them with the cost.

#38 - On 12/13/2009 at 1:15am by LilaBear

(0)

If friends take a friend out for said friend's birthday, and offer to pay and then stick the birthday boy/girl's tab, then that is not only beyond rude, it's douchebag-asshole-worthy.

I guess you don't speak Texan, then. Let me teach you.

"Can a buy you a hooker for your birthday?"

This means you send me your credit card number, exp. date, etc. and include your mailing address so I can send you the used condom as a thank-you note.

Try this for homework:

Translate from Texan the phrase, "Can I buy you a Thai massage with a happy ending?"

Americans call them 'pubs'? Everytime I see an occasion of this on here it surprises me.

#10 - On 12/11/2009 at 2:39pm by jcrook

(0)

Americans only call pubs "pubs." They're not the same as regular bars/restaurants. Of course, generally the main difference is that they have the word "pub" somewhere in the name, and maybe they have an Irish or English decor/theme.

Sorry that happened. Those are not your friends, they are users. They probably are the types who have to be surrounded by other people because they are too insecure and think image first, consequence later. Politely turn down any future outings with them and pick better people to hang with. PM me and if the mods confirm your ISP, I will send you a e-certificate to someplace near you so you can take a new friend out for drinks. Forget those other folks they don't have any class.

(+1)

That's really harsh... they should just fucking well pay for their own drinks, and yours since it's your birthday!

#12 - On 12/11/2009 at 2:48pm by Lisa89

(+2)

First...how did you have a tab or why did you start a tab if you thought they were paying for your drinks? Second, I would have walked on the tab and on my friends...never reconciling with either. Fucking douche bags is what they are.

#13 - On 12/11/2009 at 2:51pm by jandrews10

(+1)

No kidding. They can't put it on your tab if you didn't have your card open for your tab. The only way this could have happened was for one of them to give the server his or her card, which is usually required when a large group of people are drinking together at a bar and then that person told the server that you were going to pay for it at the end of the night.

If you did not collect the money that they tried to stick you with, you have only yourself to blame. Grow a spine or get yourself a new set of friends.

Yeah, I'm sure when he "picked them," he knew they were going to do something so shitty.

i think you should invite them to a party in an old abandoned house...when they are all good and drunk light the 12, 55 gallon drums of gasoline you had stashed and burn those fuckers... as they run out screaming have a big sign that says "Stage One: Paybacks a Bitch"

This reminds me of a birthday I had once where friends wanted to "take me out to dinner"...when it came time for the bill, I learned that "taking me out to dinner" still denoted I pay for my meal.

That sucks. When I was in grade 8 or 9, this girl who hung around me and my friend (but who constantly annoyed us) said "Do you guys want an ice-cream?" I declined but my other friend said yes. So she went to the canteen and bought the ice-creams, then when she got back she said "that's a dollar fifty." My friend's like "What?? You offered to buy me an ice-cream! You don't offer to buy something for someone then ask them for the money!"

Not as bad as a whole evening of drinks though.
