Oh man, nasty! That's why meat goes on the bottom. Hope you don't get sick.
bloodah!
#2 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:03am by Eros
wont that make you sick?
#3 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:05am by tany
Agreed, should see the doctor.
Are you vegetarian? That'd be even worse.
on the plus side if he's a vampire, then it'd be good...
why the hell would a vegetarian have meat in the fridge?
Might live with others who are not vegetarian
That's gross.
It's more gross that you had blood-dripping meat on a high shelf. Agree with #1
What on earth would possess you to do that?! Just grab another can if one has stuff on the top! YDI!!
do you defrost meat in the fridge?? i thought you did it on the table?? i have no idea
#7 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:09am by tany
you can do it either way, the fridge takes a little longer.
hahahahaa! i would easily react the same way, it was just bad luck, that it wasn't soda. so FYL.
ROFL OMG LOL That is so disgusting/funny!!! Ewwww! Next time, put the meat on the bottom, stupid.
Ewwwww. That is fucking GROSSSSSSS!
Oh god...that sounds like something i would do... eww
I woulda vomited 10 times over ewwwww.
hahaha taste's good ay?
#14 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:23am by huggielious
Eww, pretty sure i just threw up >>
#7, you NEVER defrost meat on the table or counter at room temperature, it creates a breeding ground for bacteria. Always defrost in the fridge, or if you need it done faster, in cold water in the sink (not hot or warm). Just so you know! :-)
OP: That's disgusting, hope you didn't get sick...
I just threw up in my mouth....
but then I swallowed it....
EWWWWW
I wonder if anyone is going to say "YDI for having meat in the fridge."
#19 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:40am by mishel
That is fairly disgusting. Bad luck! Next time you should see if the can is open before you assume it's leaking! :) FYL
FYL for drinking blood but YDI for not putting it on the bottom shelf! I still clicked FYL though.
I clicked YDI the second I saw "leak from the top".
Gravity does not work that way.
#22 took the words right out of my mouth. if it was leaking or something wouldnt the soda have gone DOWN and not UP??
...weird, and ive never heard of strawberry soda either O_o
#22 took the words right out of my mouth. if it was leaking or something wouldnt it have gone DOWN and not UP??
...weird, and ive never heard of strawberry soda either O_o
Yeah, um.... if it was a CAN of soda, it wouldn't leak in the first place unless it had been tampered with (opened) before hand... so next time, if you think "Say, my unopened CAN of soda is leaking! Nummy nums" and go to suck off the 'spill over'... Well, go ahead and don't XDD
secondly... my dad defrosts steak all the time, and just lets the blood drip everywhere. I've gone through a similar situation......... not fun... not tasty...
You wouldn't even try to complain if you'd be H.Lecter. -. -
Maybe now you can entice all the crazy Twilight fangirls.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW ew ew ew ew e we wewwewewewewewew ew we weqrqew wq w
Agree with # 1
Meat ALWAYS goes on the bottom... an not above each other either
Thats why god invented cling wrap, buddy.
#1
If you didn't know, most fridges have different temperature "zones" or whatever you want to call them. Meat goes on the top shelf, because its the coldest part of the fridge. Vegetables and fruits go to the bottom, because it's the warmest part of the fridge.
#31 - On 06/16/2009 at 7:22am by Asdas
Just to make #19 happy,
YDI for having meat in the fridge.
Now we know. You secretly yearn to be a vampire. FYL.
YDI. If a can is leaking, you shouldn't drink from it anyway.
um, that's what you get for eating meat.
durr.
Why the hell's that gross? I eat my meat red, it has blood in it when I eat it as well.
Actually, that red stuff dripping from the steak is myoglobin, a water soluble protein. So maybe you won't feel as sick now.
... And thats why you always put the frozen/defrosting meat on the bottom shelf. So that if anything spills it doesn't go into anything that you want to eat.
What's with people just eating and drinking somthing with full knowledge of what it is
K...memo to you, never drink a can that looks like it's leaking anyway! It shouldn't be open if you haven't opened it!!!
IT SERVES YOU RIGHT! That's what you get for eating meat. This does not happen when you put a frozen bag of mixed vegetables above the drinks.
Goddd, thats rank as.
yuckyuckyuckferalyuckyuck
#4, if the OP was a vegetarian.. why would he/she be defrosting meat ?
#45 - Maybe the OP's under 18 and lives with their parents? I'm vegetarian, and I live at home still. There's meat in the fridge as well. I can't tell my mom to throw it out, she'd smack me or something.
#43 - Strawberry soda is like any other sort of soda... But it's strawberry flavored.
#45 because he/she still live with their non veggie parents? Think about it, brainiac.
How is that gross? You plan on eating the steak anyways right?
You guys kidding me? Blood is drunk by many people around the world.
I'm pleasantly surprised there hasn't been a post like - "YDI! MEAT IS MURDER! YOU WILL BURN IN HELL WHILE THE ANIMALS GO TO HEAVEN!"
your life is fucked simply because you were dumb enough to think a can could leak from the top.
that's just sad.
but regardless that is disgusting that you slurped the blood.
why would you drink it if it was leaking? and didn't the "leaked soda" look just a little strange to you?
Eeeewwww, next time put your defrosting meat on a plate and put it on the bottom shelf D:
43 this may shock you... but it's soda that's strawberry flavoured.
@#52
Luckily there are only a limited amount of those lunatics. They can't be everywhere at once. =)
Yummm I love strawberry soda
Steaks pretty good too
I don't get why this is gross.... YDI for defrosting meat in the fridge.. just do it on the counter, unless you eat it raw it won't be a problem.
just wait to see your blood test
those animals might be infected on some cloned shit
MEAT IS MURDER!!! YDI FOR BEING A SAVAGE!!!! RAHHHHH!!!!!
jk. lol.
And that is why you always defrost meat on the bottom shelf of a refrigerator, preferrably on a dish where nothing can drip down and contaminate other foods below.
YDI.
If you can't defrost meat on the bottom shelf (like if the fridge is full) put it on a plate first.
But remember...Some people eat steak raw (steak tarta sp?) so it shouldn't hurt you.
Oh, puke.
If an unopened can is "leaking from the top" it's got something way wrong with it, anyway. Bacterial contamination, botulism, something, so no--you don't want to hurry to slurp up that yummy goodness. I'll be surprised if you make it to twenty.
Better call Dwight Shrute. You're turning into a Vampire!
oh my goodness, that made me feel sick to my stomach.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
that's nastyyyy
YDI.
I am actually more disgusted that you would drink the random liquid *leaking* from the *top* of a can -- one that may have had a hole in it who knows how long ago, than the fact that you licked steak juice.
always thaw your meat on the bottom shelf...
#4: if she was a vegetarian, she probably wouldn't have steak in her fridge.
YUM! strawberry flavored E. Coli!!
Ewww, that's SO gross! FYL, indeed!
YDI for having meat in the fridge.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARF
#52...You're really lame. Get a life.
This is really nasty. Geeze...I can't imagine what it must feel like to be expecting a mouthful of soda and getting a mouthful of cold blood instead. It gives me the chills and a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. EwWw!
Ugh, gross! That made my stomach turn...
#82 - On 06/16/2009 at 10:38am by Jennydew
Ew, usually I like my steak to the point where it is still mooing, but this is disgusting.
Thats fucking disgusting! Shouldn't you realize that its not strawberry soda?
You thought that an UNOPENED soda was leaking around the top? Really? Use that thing between your ears, pls
#17, that bacteria gets killed when you cook it, and I defrost meat beside my sink still in all the packageing, so it's actually fine and you are a germaphob.
Well, at least you can score a date with some crazy gothic teenagers now that you're like their "Edward."
...and this is why I'm a vegetarian D:
and thats why they say put raw meat on the bottom. LOL.
fail. look before you leap man. or in this case, spy before you slurp.
...what's wrong with this? Steak is meant to be eaten rare (and therefore dripping with blood) anyway. Cooking beyond that makes it lose the taste. It's not that big of an issue.
In any case, YDI for slurping an unknown liquid. But it's not a big deal. Duh.
strawberry soda?? yeah okkk..
This is why we store raw meat at the bottom of the fridge.
#96 - On 06/16/2009 at 11:33am by rainbow_laces
Oh god, that sucks. This is why meat should be on the bottom. Don't die
YDI for drinking strawberry soda
haha, Image you would get AIDS from it. that would be funny
ok, if a can of pop is shaken a little and opened so you dont even notice a crack, the pop leaks to the top. even if you dont shake it it may do it.
meat should go in a pan on the BOTTOM SHELF.
Kitchen safety 101.
Someone in your household failed at least as hard as you did.
#101 - On 06/16/2009 at 11:46am by alwaysalady
If it had been from the can, then you should have thrown it out, since the soda would be flat. You're just stupid.
Steak... I'm not 100% sure of this but isn't steak meat coming from cows exclusively?
Because if so, unless you live in like Ireland, it's np. You can eat that meat raw if you'd wish.
1. always defrost meat on THE BOTTOM
2. always defrost said meat on a plate or some sort of vessel that will catch said 'blood' before it contaminates the whole damn fridge.
3. that red substance is actually not blood, its some sort of protien stuffs..
4. you couldnt have consumed that much of it, so it wont hurt you, but i bet it tasted like hell
5. if your soda can is leaking, from anywhere, especially the top, DO NOT DRINK IT.
there is so much wrong with this it actually makes me mad. and your a dumbass.
this is an fml and ydi.
fml for drinking blood (don't die) and ydi for not properly containing th steak to begin with
Come on...that's not that bad.
YDI for not putting meat on the bottom!
dont worry though, the amount that would fit on the top of a can probably wouldnt do much to you.
why would you even think to do that, eww.
Whats gross or FML about it, its just blood. Did you know you have about 6L of that stuff in your body? :| Gross!! Quick, slit your wrists to drain yourself from all that ewwy blood!
the red in red meat is blood
i agree with everyone that says its not that bad.... I like my steak blue rare anyways
Unless you're a vegetarian, I fail to see the FML. (if that's the case though, you have my sympathy). It is extremely unlikely anything bad will happen to you from so little blood.
... Why would you drink from a leaking can, anyway?
Okay, a few words for those saying YDI.
1) without thinking, I have also slurped soda from the top of the can. Although I did puncture the top myself, it's a mindless thing that you don't really think about, especially if it wasn't like that when the can was opened.
2) for all we know, he couldn't have gotten a new one. Maybe it was the last one?
3) myoglobin (whoever said that thing about it before me is right) is almost the exact same color as strawberry soda. So it's not like it was a Sprite or Coke, where the liquid was clearly foreign.
4) if he had known the steak was there, he might have thought about it. We can't assume everyone is living alone with only themselves to blame. He could have parents? Roommates? Significant other?
5) you are supposed to defrost in the fridge. The top is the coldest, and unles you have a fancy Sub-Zero fridge, you might not be able to make the bottom cold enough. Yes, it should have been in a dish of some sort, but how do we know it wasn't? It could have been in a Ziploc, on a plate, or wrapped in something that had easily leaked.
Seriously, think about it.
FYL

EWWWWWW!!
You would have eaten it anyway when you ate the steak though.
One of the many reasons I like kosher meat...all the blood is removed.
And to add on...I do eat my steak rare. I do not, however, enjoy drinking myoglobin before it's cooked :)
Oh wow, one of the worst fmls I've read in a while... because that is truly just an odd and disgusting accident that really sucks :( sorry!! I think I would have thrown up.
Dude, if you've got meat in the fridge, put it on the bottom level next time.
EW.
You shouldn't put meat on the bottom shelf because it's too warm at the bottom- TEMPERATURE ZONES PEOPLE!!!
Also you shouldn't drink soda if its already opened...thats disgusting in and of itself.
But still FYL because that's just disgusting.
#25 , you're my hero...OP that sucks, hope you dont get sick
@ #126/DeadMansCrack - Thank you valiant sir.
EW, gross! FYL indeed, I hope you don't get sick or anything.
Haha, gotta love gravity :)
#31: Cold travels DOWNWARD, not upward. And I wouldn't buy a refrigerator that tells you to do the OPPOSITE of what you'd learn in any FoodSafe course. That's just bad design.
#129 - On 06/16/2009 at 1:44pm by som
Well, in Finland most of the fridges have the coldest part in the top and the warmest in the bottom. I guess it varies based on where the cool air is flowing in from. You know, if the cool air comes from the top, the top will be the coldest part but it will still travel downwards.
This is the only image that I could find with some quick Googlin'.
http://www.quicksnapper.com/files/10495/11060553094A38E5E4EFDF1.png
and this is the only piece of text I could find (in English)
"The door is usually the warmest part and the top shelf is often the warmest shelf (this can vary with the make of your fridge - check the manual for particular details of your model)."
#183 - On 06/17/2009 at 8:50am by Asdas
yum, cross contamination. BTW if a can is leaking it probably means that it went bad. remember ready to eat food is always stored above raw-to-be-cooked food.
mmmmmmmmm.. cow blood....
Blood looks very different from soda. You can see through soda, while blood is dark colored. Dumbass. YDI
#104: I sure as hell /hope/ not...
fyl FOR SUUUUUURE!!! i'm a vegetarian. i honestly gagged when i read this. soooooooo fucking nasty.
Hello bacterial infection.
ohh that's foul.
if you're the one that put the steak above the drinks, YDI.
if someone else in the house put it there, FYL.
fuck temperature zones, you can't put meat on the damn top for EXACTLY this reason. who cares if it's warmer? you ARE trying to thaw it out and its assumed that you will be cooking it promptly. it's fine as long as you do. leave it sit a few days and you may have a problem on your hands.
Yeah, you're supposed to keep meat on the bottom shelf for health and safety reasons.
Also, I don't think strawberry soda and blood look exactly the same...
Even if they do, you shouldn't have drank it, it would've tasted nasty even if it WAS strawberry soda.
I suppose if you did it without thinking...it was unavoidable.
But you still deserved it.
wow wow wow Strawberry Soda???
#22 you just dumb...
IF the can had a leak, the pressure from the can would be just enough to overcome gravity. Just like if you shake a bottle of soda and open it, the pressure goes the only way possible, up.
The can is pressurized by CO2, and if this pressure is released via leak, it will go the the leak...
FYL
of course, because liquid leaks upwards .. good job on learning gravity
exactly. and this is why it's perfectly fine to shake a soda before opening it. Everyone knows it won't spray into your face!
also...how is it that so many people have never heard of strawberry soda? that stuff is awesome!
I agree with #1. raw meat should always be kept on the very bottom of a fridge or freezer for obvious reasons.
#143 - On 06/16/2009 at 2:45pm by dberri05
Probably tasted better than strawberry soda. Yeeeech!
#73 and #123 - Why don't you guys read OTHER comments, instead of the first ten? The OP could be living with their parents who eat meat. Seriously. Think outside the little box.
I hate explaining myself twice.
YDI for not knowing basic food hygiene.
If you're that disgusted, you should stop eating meat.
Poor you D: . I woulda cried & washed my mouth w. Soapp ewwww. Wuht does meatblewwwd taste liek?!!?
Ahhh poooorr you! I feelll youu.
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww thats the most disgusting thing i've heard in a while. ew i think i would puke!
Wat the hell kinda u drinking!?!?!?
If you bought it at a grocery store, it's not really blood. It's a kind of red dye.
#152 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:12pm by psychedelic4
#4, yes, I'm sure many vegitarians keep defrosting steaks in their freezer.
Read my other comments. Please and thank you.
first off....leaky soda...questionable, maybe not drink that one...or investigate further. Second, it's not "blood" that comes out of meat, that's way dangerous for humans to ingest blood and also against all FDA rules, its some type of nitrates they put into steaks to "wet age" them. The only thing about raw beef that can make you sick is if it's not quality meat. ever hear of beef carpaccio? anyways YDI for thinking to slurp up a possibly opened leaky can of soda, could be tampered with!
its not blood.... just protein saturated water.
eww. man that sucks.
and yea you never put meat on a top shelf.
but i always put it in the sink to defrost.
and btw strawberry pop sounds amazing ive never even heard of it until now !!!!
I love that stuff-gives the meat its taste. Then again-I like (excluding Twilight) vampires. ^_^
they make strawberry soda?!!
also, thats y im a vegetarian. blood is GROSS
#159 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:20pm by iluvu21396
that sounds yummy.
#160 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:48pm by inu
omgg! thats soo gross...thats why you clean the top of cans before you drink it
gag, considering vegetarianism yet?
thats what you get for eating meat in the first place haha
I think this is the closest I have come to throwing up after reading an FML -_-
FYL, that's disgusting
shit luck, that's terrible! And #163, go rape a barn animal. It's their decision.
i think its strange so many people havent heard of strawberry soda. they have it every where here (oregon). in some stores you can find red licorice soda too. its yummy!
I might be wrong, but it's unlikely a soda can will leak, esp. from the top. First the top is fairly tough. But also, the can is under pressure. If it has a small crack in it, the soda will spray out and not just leak.
yeah ive never heard of strawberry soda, weird
Could have been a LOT worse.
Always keep meat on the bottom so stuff like this doesn't happen.
There is too much wrong with this to even say. I am so disgusted.
1) At your unhygienic meat-thawing processes (put that shit on a plate!! Don't put it above anything else! Put it in a meat drawer or something! Something, anything other than this!
2) Leaking can = don't drink whatever was in it!! Return to store, demand refund.
3) Leaking can = drips downward. Understanding of gravity fail.
4) Strawberry soda? FYL.
duuude, that happened to me once, but with raw chicken. My snapple bottle was next to some tomatoes, so when I saw the juice on the bottom of the bottle, I thought it was my tomatoes that had gone bad. I had gotten some on my fingers, and it tasted real baaad. Thats when I realized it was from the raw chicken hidden in the back of the shelf. >:0
Should have grabbed the sunny D instead! ;)
be a bit more observative next time
#182 - On 06/17/2009 at 3:04am by yourstruly21
Okay, as countless other people have said, meat always goes on the bottom shelf, on a plate, for exactly this reason. Raw meat is a huge cross-contamination risk. With luck, you won't get e-coli though. For those who say defrost stuff on the counter, that is just asking for trouble. Being kept in the fridge will greatly slow down any activity by the bacteria present in the meat. Letting the meat defrost at room temperature will let the bacteria come to life fully and start spreading through your steak. Yeah, thorough cooking will probably kill the bacteria, but their waste products will be left behind, which can sometimes make you sick, especially as their quantities grow. And too many people do not thoroughly cook their meat. Look at how many people die whenever there is an e-coli outbreak.
^Reason why I REFUSE to eat any red meat that's not cooked well done.
The person (your father?) who did this needs to be slapped. He could cross contaminate everything open and bare in the fridge. What my mother does is defrost meat in the sink. Don't know how safe that is, but it has to be better than leaving it on the top shelf of the refridgerator.
thats not that bad, all you bacteria failures need to shut up think about animals who eat raw meat rofl
Eating raw meat causes no harm. Bacteria is good for you. In fact, the bacteria is required to properly digest the meat.
Drinking raw blood of another animal is perfectly normal and healthy. We are the only mammal out of the 700,000 on earth that think that we have to cook the meat for some reason.
Bleck.
#189 - On 06/18/2009 at 12:30am by liquidNitrogen_
ok, what? meat doesn't have to go on the bottom shelf, it should just be put on a dish of some sort (wrapped in something, of course) with paper towels in between the meat and dish to be extra-careful. good luck op, generally you get some leeway with beef though.
ha anyone that knows anything about food knows that raw meat is stored on the bottom shelf of a fridge..
sooft tings
#193 - On 06/19/2009 at 1:04am by qwertyuiopz
What the hell is with everyone spamming?!?!!
And that's a grizzly scene
Ok, why would you keep the blood. That is really creepy.
I can't remember the last time I actually felt physically SICK at a FML.
Why the hell was meat on a high shelf?! Of course the blood will drip down!
I think I actually gagged a little reading this.
Anybody that cooks for themselves will tell you - meat on the /bottom/ shelf.
Okay yeah... as has been said, meat on the bottom shelf. If you felt like putting it on a higher shelf for some reason, at least put it in something that can't spill (bowl/pan instead of... saran wrap?).
And I fail to see what's so gross about the blood part... I mean, I don't go around licking up blood for the flavor or anything, but a little bit of blood (I'm guessing you didn't lick up that much...?) isn't that bad. I eat my steaks pretty rare, and there's normally a little blood on the plate.
Yet another good reason why I don't eat meat.
Is that any different to having a blue steak?
Which is perfect in my opinion. I love the health warnings :D
that my friend is, why you put defrosting stuff on a plate and then put it in your fridge
saves you from having to clean the fridge if sth like that happens
Things don't leak upwards... YDI
#211 - On 07/12/2009 at 9:56am by Fop
No, but things on a top shelf do leak down. Learn to read, retard.
Oh and the opening of the can is at the *top* of the can therefore it was leaking "from" the top.
check 4 tapeworms buddy, raw steak might give that to yah
