Today, getting off a bus, it was pouring rain so I got my umbrella out. A man elbowed me in the gut and grabbed it. When I told my mom about it she said, "That's New York, get over it." FML

No-one tried to help you? New York sucks.

Did you not nudge him back? Treat others as they treat you... or something like that ;)

Indeed it sucks. After living here almost all my life, I don't see what's so great about it.

Texas is the best, people give you their umbrella or share with you. TEXAS people are so nice to everyone..

I'd suggest the Austin area. Most people there are actually really nice and they're getting Google Fiber really soon.

This is why I'm glad I live on Long Island

Yeah, but Long Island provides the "essence" of city life without all the grief and discomfort!

Take a vacation to Canada: we're so polite that if you bump in to us, we're the ones who apologize.

Let's face it, in all these places, you will have some jerks, and some lovely people. Getting rather bored with all these stereotypes about what people are like in certain areas of the world. Every individual person is different! :)

I'm from Vancouver Island in B.C. We're ridiculously friendly to tourists and travelers.

New York does not suck. Brooklyn born and raised if you aint from here you dont know whats special about it. Best pizza in the world

@59 I'm sure you could punch a Canadian in the face and they would apologize. Or you could mug one and they would be so kind as to invite you for dinner.

Well now i have something to look forward to as i am going to NY in a week.

A lot of things in New York suck, New York post, New York people, and the New York Mets.

Best pizza in the world? Have you ever heard of Italy?

Did you not nudge him back? Treat others as they treat you... or something like that ;)

If she nudged him back something a lot worse than her umbrella being taken would have happened

Also pouring rain? Am I the only one with a problem with that?

Nudge him? Nah, kick that mofo and yell 'THIS IS SPARTA!'

#57 I'd bet that Dinkleberg was the one who elbowed OP.

I've lived here all my life and despite our legendary lack of manners, nobody has ever been rude to me here... maybe you were just unlucky?

Or look like someone nobody would want to mess with? :P

Or, you're the rude one stealing people's unbrellas.

#32 - I highly doubt that's it, because I'm a five foot tall, 100 lb Asian female and even my friends can't help but be amazed I've never been mugged because I'm often in the city alone and at night. xD It's probably more of what #27 said.

That's just criminal, next time you see that guy break his nose and say it New York, deal with it whilst putting on a pair of sunglasses...

There are over 8 million people in New York. OP, your life's goal is to now find this man. GO!

#4, it doesn't exactly work like that either.

I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain.....

OP: What a glorious feelin', I'm happy ag... *gets umbrella snatched away* OP: ... Happiness ruined forever.

Reminds me of "A Clockwork Orange" for some reason.

That's horrible! I'd say call the police and report it stolen but I feel like the police wouldn't be much help.

RedPillSucks 31

Sadly, in New York City, the police would probably respond as OPs mom did. Unless the cops see a man running with an umbrella printed with "This is 'OPs' umbrella" they're not going to do anything.

Not only in NYC but pretty much around the world. Cops don't need to waste there time on a stolen umbrella

Police have more important things to do than worrying about an umbrella lol.

They have more important things to do like writing pointless tickets.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't purposely elbowing someone in the gut considered assault?

RVAriverRAT88 9

That sucks op. at least that's all he took, your lucky you still have your wallet.

They were talking about the first your, it is actually supposed to be you're.

Sorry Mr. grammar nazi, I was typing fast.

RpiesSPIES 27

Typing fast isn't an excuse, honestly. I, myself, am more accurate the faster I type... To a point.

I live out in rural Virginia, so I don't know about all you rude city folk. I'm just kidding we have dickheads here too.

CallMeMcFeelii 13

For some reason your comment made me think of that online dating site commercial for farmers. "City folk just don't get it" haha.

Well, you can't have a rainbow without a little rain :) I hope you got a ton of rainbows to make up for that.

I think you mean you can't have a rainbow without skittles, you're drunk lol

In new York people don't just elbow people and steel things maybe if you're in a bad neighborhood, but if so you shouldn't have been there. But never the less that extremely sucks, and I definitely feel bad!

Stereotypical people listen, New York, as much as people say otherwise, is not this criminal filled gangster city!

Yeah sorry in know it's steal i was just typing fast, sorry!!
