#5 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:08pm by Ilovelife07

What did you expect? a car?

#6 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:08pm by Imawhalerider

Shut up dude, at least you went to college. Why do people just expect their parents to shower them with gifts for going to school?

#7 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:09pm by wowfmlife

lol@#4. It's the thought that counts?

#8 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:09pm by MaddieMonster

lol # 2

#9 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:09pm by sofarsogood

The fruit is better than the computer.

#10 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:10pm by al12345

@op: If your parents helped you pay for college, be happy you even got a piece of fruit...

@ #2:
"Alright, then get me a toilet paper roll, a cork screw, and some tin foil."
"We don't have a cork screw."
"Alright, then get me an avacado, an ice pick, and my snorkel."

#12 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:11pm by poolshark

hahaha #2 FTW!

#13 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:13pm by kwbuzz23wk

Thinking about the remnants of that apple floating around gently in your stomach, simmering in your stomach acid pleases me. Greatly. You did eat it...right? Please tell me you ate it? I hate having my thoughts go to waste.

#14 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:13pm by bipolarchipmunk

watch them have a car for you when you get home. then you may regret posting this :)

#15 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:14pm by loveyababe

hahaha this is funny. so is #2's comment. seriously do that.

#16 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:14pm by mel2643x

#6 & 7 are right, get over it.

unless they promised a computer to you this isn't an FML at all

get off your damn high horse and be thankful you went to college

YDI

#17 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:14pm by genius_man16

rather have the fruit than the computer

#18 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:16pm by SpartanIIMC

lol,
you parents are cool...

#19 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:16pm by omgitsseejay

#14 wtf? you may want to get help

#20 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:17pm by Ilovelife07

Agree with 17.

Someone thinks they're pretty deserving. Cry me a fucking river.

Maybe it's a hint. Too much sitting in front of a computer.

#21 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:19pm by rukusrazor

an apple is better than no apple...its also better than a swift kick to the testicles (or ovaries if you're a chick, but that is much harder to accomplish)

#22 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:19pm by tko

ummm spoiled much
a starving kind in africa would have killed for that apple you bitch
you graduated from college
normally the step is to get a good fucking job which is why you went to college
then you can buy yourself a apple computer with your own money
bart

#23 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:21pm by randomsloth

at least you can right click the fruit

#24 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:24pm by revisionfail

lmfaooo sucks. yay for #2

#25 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:24pm by baby_love

Thank you #6, 7, and 20

Hey, times are tough. Not everyone can afford expensive foreign cars or laptops as presents for finishing school for YOUR OWN benefit. Eat the apple, enjoy it and go find a job, that way you can save money to congratulate yourself.

#26 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:24pm by nobody_special

It's only college... might be special for you but in general its nothing special.

#27 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:25pm by Tehalon

They want you to be healthy?

#28 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:27pm by Stunt

I think the complaint is more about getting an apple, then not getting anything expensive. I mean, it is kind of a WTF gift. Unless it was gold.

and If we compared all situations to starving kids in Africa, then there wouldn't even be a FML.

#29 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:28pm by McCannCanTriple

LOL that was a good one

#30 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:29pm by brasileirinha

I can see the humour in this...so I don't see it being much of an FML. Unless you went through a lot of crap during college and you graduating is a really big deal. You never know...it could be a hint of what's to come. Or maybe not, you never know!

But you should count yourself lucky, some people don't get any recognition from their parents. Some people don't even graduate.

#31 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:29pm by purple5

Since you call it college you're probably in the US, in which case odds are your parents helped pay your way through college. They owe you nothing at all.

#32 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:31pm by boatiebanter

You expected tons of gifts and accolades? Or were you just shocked that they gave you an apple? either way, not a FML. It might be if you were allergic to apples, but otherwise...

#33 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:31pm by paranoidkiwie

Eh, what? Do people normally get expensive computers as gifts for completing higher education? When I graduate I'm expecting a hug and a celebratory meal at Wetherspoons. Perhaps I'm underselling myself, I should let my mum know of my new expectations so she can start saving now...

#34 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:33pm by paperfox

for a start, be thankful you went to college.
secondly, as people have said ( #22 in particular), starving kids in Africa would've killed for that apple.

thirdly, the apple is often seen as the fruit that granted Adam and Eve knowledge of good and evil. Thus, since it is a symbol of knowledge, maybe your parents were joking and you'll get a better gift later on.

#35 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:33pm by QiScorpion

the first wealth is health!

#36 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:35pm by blackdog

@2 *snorts* This is, in fact, the most perfect response.

@22 Man, I hope I never get a swift kick to the ovaries. That sounds painful.

@ OP Ouch.

#37 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:38pm by tiazorz

that kind of sucks!! after getting through four years of college you definitely deserve something more than an apple! maybe not a car though!!!

#38 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:38pm by sydneybristow

Probably better than a mac.

#39 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:46pm by b5200

Well hey - at least you can eat an apple. Apple computer SUCK!

#40 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:50pm by losergirl

Getting a graduation present makes a lot more sense than getting a birthday present. Graduating from college is an accomplishment and a once in a lifetime event, nothing wrong with celebrating and acknowledging that. What's so special about turning another year older that people should give you things?

#41 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:50pm by liquidpaper

wait was it a green apple because then it would be a good thing, if it was red i would say fyl

#42 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:51pm by 777888777

Like multiple people have mentioned....expecting to get showered with gifts then not receiving them does not equate a FML. Be thankful you were able to go to college and graduate since many people do not have the option financially to do so. Im sure your parents did it for a good reason to be humorous (like someone mentioned, did you go into teaching because then that would make sense).

And #32, not sure what youre talking about since a lot of people in the US put themselves through school. Id say 8 out of 10 people I know (including myself) put themselves through college. But you do make a point, if OP's parents paid for college then OP should expect anything at all...hell they should give their parents a gift!

Also I find it funny that Im not only eating an apple while reading this post, but Im also working on an Apple computer.

#43 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:51pm by SOMAgirl

The OP didn't say anything about expecting a gift. For all we know s/he didn't. No gift at all is often better than a cheap half-assed gift.. and from your own parents to boot. That's the FML.

#44 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:54pm by liquidpaper

I agree with the college vs birthday comment.

And also, reading this and all of the comments has made me seriously want to eat an apple. Maybe I'll take one out of my fridge and take #2's suggestion to heart. :]

#45 - On 05/13/2009 at 5:57pm by emuhleighx

Chuck it at 'em. Take that parents!

#46 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:02pm by xieh

Good, Macs suck.

Good job on graduating. You know, not EVERYONE'S families can afford to give people a ton of crap after graduating. Besides, seeing on how long graduation ceremonies are, you were probably hungry. YDI.

#47 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:04pm by GroovyPants

LMAO.

Your parents are my hero's.

#48 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:05pm by SergioFML

@22 you don't have to go all the way to africa for that. a starving kid in the states wouldn't mind eating an apple.

@2 i lol'ed.

to all the haters on the OP: uhhh i would def. rather the computer than an apple. you guys take these things waay to far. if i were expecting a comp. id be a bit ticked too. for about 5 min. then i wouldn't care much.

#49 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:06pm by latuka

I hate you so, so much for posting this stupid shit. Also, "graduating" from DeVry is nothing to brag about.

#50 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:07pm by evanwilliams

maybe they're broke after paying for you to go to college?

#51 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:08pm by yer_maw

@#34. Good insight! :D

The wisdom that knowledge must be handled with care is a very important gift indeed.

#52 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:11pm by diary_of_jane

I don't think the OP was expecting a computer, but maybe something besides a piece of fruit. A family celebration, perhaps?

#53 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:15pm by mehwhateverr

What kind of apple was it, because, y'know, that makes all the difference.

#54 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:18pm by oogoa

Wow. This isn't even an FML.

Get off your damn high horse and be happy you even got anything. Starving kids all over the world would die for that apple. Kids that suffer through poverty would love for the chance to even GO to college, let alone GRADUATE.

I wish I could meet you so I could give you a good slap. Whiney sons of bitches.

#55 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:18pm by kapowi

90 percent of these reviewers are jerks

#56 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:21pm by 777888777

I don't see how this can really be a FYL or a YDI . . . .

but gratz on finishing college!

#57 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:21pm by Beven

I think the apple idea is cute and sweet -- as someone mentioned earlier, a symbol of knowledge.

I graduate in a week and I think that I should be GIVING my parents something for all the emotional support they've provided. I don't expect anything from them for graduating besides a 'congratulations' -- I just feel thankful that they're able to come to the ceremony.

#59 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:24pm by 12frisbees

my parents played the same trick on me this christmas.
it will be on your desk when you get home.
i promise.

#60 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:29pm by shhhhh

my parents played the same trick on me this christmas.
it will be on your desk when you get home.
i promise.

#61 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:29pm by shhhhh

12frisbees....I want to hug you. I think that would be awesome if you gave your parents a card or something just to thank them for their support. Im sure they would be very touched by that gesture. :)

#62 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:30pm by SOMAgirl

Perhaps you should thank them for the apple...

..Oh yeah, and the hundred grand they probably spent on your education. Dumbass.

#63 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:33pm by Altephor

I have never gotten a gift from either of my parents for any graduation or accomplishment, ever. It sucks. I hope they helped you with school. Mine didn't.

#64 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:34pm by wordgirl

You graduated from college, and you have parents who care about you, and this is a FML how? Get over yourself. You're not entitled to shit for graduating college. You're not even entitled to a job with a degree, especially with today's economy, but you want presents from your parents? Wow.

#65 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:47pm by timeforpie

considering you wrote this on fmylife.com...i think you already have a computer

#66 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:49pm by shroomis

#s 6,7,20, 25 and whoever else.........yeah i kind of agree but an apple? They could of got a 5 or 10 dollar gift card. It is a huge deal to graduate.

#67 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:49pm by ryan__h

Its one of the new Apples. It designed to look like a fruit.

#68 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:49pm by PenisLightning

Dude, Apples are awesome (the computers). Especially if you want to use them for music production or graphic design. You have to realize that they come with about $500 worth of programs on them (garage band, iphoto, iweb, imovie, etc). PCs come with what? Maybe a trial version of a few programs? And on top of that, you barely need anti-virus or anti-spam software. Yes, they can get viruses, but it's very rare. My PC constantly has spam and viruses, and I have anti-virus software (which I had to pay for). I definately prefer my mac for internet.

The fruits are good too... but yeah, I'd rather have the computer.

#69 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:50pm by gothymama

#2 and #4
Haha

Thats sad though

But hey an apple a day keeps the doctor away?

#70 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:50pm by Vib392

That's right! Apple's are healthy - maybe it was a message to stay fit. Besides Apple computers are expensive - get a hackintosh.

#71 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:51pm by LeonardSnow

ungrateful much

#72 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:52pm by madam_mayham

that sucks that you got a fruit but uh.... I didn't graduate yet and I bought myself a mac. I'm sure you'd be capable of getting one on your own

#73 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:53pm by j_buggy

Be glad ! Apple computers suck!

#74 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:53pm by Bruce8

that, my friend, is unfortunate. sorry that happened to you. hopefully u got some better grad presents :/

#75 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:54pm by whoaa_nellie

you sound like an ungrateful, self-centered child. i bet your parents helped pay for you to go to college. i bet because of your parents, you had the opportunity to go to college. you should be grateful. plus, we are living in hard economic times. people just can't afford much these days. at least they got you something. and maybe there is a meaning to it.

#76 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:56pm by grazynaanka

You selfish fuck, I bet your parents paid for your entire education, your house, AND your living expenses. Bite me.

#77 - On 05/13/2009 at 6:57pm by ogmarshall

I second what #76 said
For graduation, you get a great education. Congrats
How nice it must be to come from a family where you come to expect lavish presents on every occasion.

#78 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:04pm by irishfever

the arguments on this fml are really stupid.

#79 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:05pm by pagemaster

I graduated from College and my family missed the ceremony because they were in Scotland and I couldn't go to that because I had just started a job in my field

#80 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:06pm by RonnieRLD

quit complaining... your parents probably paid for your education, your graduation is just expected.

#81 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:08pm by j_isforjessica

I'm tired of people treating their graduations like damn coronations. People are supposed to celebrate the fact that you didn't fail college, something most non-brain-dead people do with ease? I'll celebrate a baby or a wedding, but not you drunkenly stumbling up a platform in your douchey sunglasses to get a $10 scroll.

#82 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:09pm by catryn

I think it's supposed to be symbolic of your education now being complete. Obviously all those years of school did little to help your comprehensive ability.

#83 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:10pm by Rakshasa23

You know, just because they're your parents doesn't mean that they're obliged to buy you a computer...And come on. You just graduated from college. Not 8th grade. Mommy and Daddy can't do everything for you.

#84 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:13pm by Tonifer

#84 the op never said anything about expecting a computer

#85 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:16pm by ryan__h

Wow not surprising that you are annoyed. I cant believe your parents didnt buy you a gift. It really is insane. Lol, you must be kidding do you really need a gift at this age. grow up

#86 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:22pm by JK2327

your parents are trying to be funny, at your expience
yeah FYL dude

#87 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:22pm by RottenKid

wtf...i meant #83

#88 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:26pm by ryan__h

So #83, you expect an expensive macAir when you graduate from 8th grade (which is nothing compared to college), but an apple when you complete 4 years of kick-ass work?
I don't think so.

After 4 years of hard work, you deserve something more valuable.
Even if that means dinner with your family.

And yeah go get a job.

#89 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:28pm by koeda

Just out of curiosity – what makes you think you DESERVE a gift? Be grateful they came and acknowledged your accomplishment instead of being greedy and materialistic.

#90 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:29pm by SarlaccBits

no, this is funny because an apple is such a small gift that OP's parents probably would have been better off with just a verbal "congratulations." there's nothing selfish or spoiled about thinking that a piece of fruit is a lame present, because it is. it doesn't mean you aren't grateful for support.

#91 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:29pm by mubaki

Maybe you will just ill-specific when you said that you wanted an apple.

Seriously, it's an apple. They're red (or green or yellow) and full of delicious goodness. Eat it and get on with your life. Why not go out to dinner with your parents or something? Besides, at least you graduated. Some parents (like mine!) don't even acknowledge the fact and just say "Oh. Well ... Good for you." So, hey! You got lunch at least.

#92 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:40pm by Oriina

What did you go to school for? Farming? Or teaching?

#93 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:42pm by GiannaxRevenge

i lol'd.

#94 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:45pm by OHMAHGAHH

thats f%cked up

#95 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:49pm by watching_clouds

Who cares! I didn't get anything, I'm sick of people coming up with excuses just to get presents. Maybe they figure that since you have a college degree you can afford your own computer.

#96 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:51pm by hjjl

Who said the OP thinks he DESERVES or EXPECTS anything?!?! He only said the thing about the apple computer to make the point that he got a piece of fruit, not to be confused with a computer. And YES graduating college is a BIG DEAL! Of course it doesn't necessarily mean he should automatically get a huge, lavish gift, but most parents DO get something, even if it's just a gift card or something (but STILL, it's not like the OP said he was expecting something, either!!)
And to all the people saying "You're just lucky to even be in college!" or "There's starving kids in Africa be happy you got an apple!" --Well this isn't Africa! There are different societal norms here, so this comparison isn't even valid. And just because the OP (or anyone else) is able to go to college, does that mean they should be ashamed of the fact that they can afford an education and never get anything good else in their life again? I think you guys need to get off YOUR high horse and stop assuming that, because he can go to college, he has everything he wants and doesn't deserve any recognition for completely a college education.

#97 - On 05/13/2009 at 7:56pm by mcsnelly

Why exactly are you expecting anything from them? Gee, were you disappointed that they didn't buy you a new BMW to sit next to your Lexus? Yes, fuck your life because your parents didn't shower you with gifts and all sorts of unnecessary things.

What I wouldn't do for a mere ounce of support from my parents... an apple would be great. It'd be one less bit of food that I'd have to buy.

#98 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:03pm by hanamama

My opinion will be influenced by HOW they gave you the apple.
Did they just throw you an apple and leave?
Or were they all "CONGRATULATIONS! ...We can't afford you Mac, but we still got you an Apple product?"
There's big difference.

#99 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:05pm by TactTheLostBoy

So? People like me don't get shit when we graduate college. STFU and stop being spoiled.

#100 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:06pm by nikkirito

college is the step to a high payed job, you can buy your own dam laptop, your like a spoiled child, you cry cause you didnt get a gift for something your expected to do, atleast they gave you a snack.

#101 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:12pm by beberezay

nikki, I'd honestly rather not get anything than get an apple. If I didn't get anything, I can just tell myself that the people who love me have other priorities (and, tbfh, I want them to have other priorities), but an apple is just insulting as a graduation gift. If you want to go cheap, just get a card or don't get anything at all.

#102 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:13pm by Ryu148

Were you an education major? Makes sense.

#103 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:14pm by lmmmr

i think everyone is missing the real point here..
was it a green apple or red apple..?
the green ones are gross..and i'd be pissed.
ha.

#104 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:17pm by MmmHotWaffles

Why?

#105 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:17pm by pancakelover

well seeing as the alternative to you graduating form college is flunking out of college I dont see why you feel the need to have positive reinforcement for not failing...

#106 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:18pm by ertw

Fucking LOL.

#107 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:20pm by digapygmy

lol, at least they gave you something.

#108 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:24pm by 24788

wtf... the suckss. lmao funny though

#110 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:33pm by sexyx0sandyyy

Where is the "This is not an fml" button?

#111 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:39pm by nonotme

#100--Just because not everyone gets something, it doesn't mean that those who do have it is spoiled. Not everyone has a computer, does that make everyone who owns one spoiled? Not everyone has a roof over their heads, does that mean anyone who lives in a house is spoiled?

#112 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:39pm by mcsnelly

lols maybe they were just being parents, after all they can be slow at times... my parents are

#113 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:46pm by crzy4anime

lololololl thats funny! i agreee with number two.

#114 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:49pm by deannababy

You know, we could reply to EVERY post with "think of starving kids in Africa." Kinda takes the fun out of reading them though.

#115 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:50pm by Tsukasa

You are such a WHINER. Im guessing since you were expecting gifts that they probably have money and paid for your college. Do you realize how much money theyve already spent on you?

#116 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:57pm by Scootles7

huh. interesting. What kind of apple? red or green?

#117 - On 05/13/2009 at 8:57pm by Rawrrr14

#115--not everyone's parents pay for their kids' college. Mine don't. But they do give us at least a little gift when any of us have graduated. And they definitely aren't rich. In fact, they're quite the opposite. Don't assume that the OP is spoiled.

#118 - On 05/13/2009 at 9:01pm by mcsnelly

#41, they give you things on your birthday bc u survived that long. OP, since you so ungrateful, give the apple to a homeless person. Better yet, buy a whole bag of them to give to a couple of people. y is everyone forgetting yellow apples?!

#119 - On 05/13/2009 at 9:05pm by newguy12

@96 good to see youre clueless and retarded.

"Who said the OP thinks he DESERVES or EXPECTS anything?!?!"
the fact that rather than being thankful for getting something at all he says his life is fucked because what he got was an apple. even if you think the gift is weird, you dont then say fuck my life do you you dumbass.

"Of course it doesn't necessarily mean he should automatically get a huge, lavish gift, but most parents DO get something, even if it's just a gift card or something"
so youre saying he was probably expecting to get something.

"this isn't Africa! There are different societal norms here, so this comparison isn't even valid. And just because the OP (or anyone else) is able to go to college, does that mean they should be ashamed of the fact that they can afford an education and never get anything good else in their life again?"
it is valid because its to put things into perspective. so youre saying that its ok for people to waste money on gifts for people who have accomplished something while children starve. ok good to know. and yes lets exaggerate by suggesting people are saying he doesnt deserve anything good in life again, but whinge like a little baby when someone makes an exaggeration by suggesting kids in africa would be happy to get an apple. make up your damn mind.

"I think you guys need to get off YOUR high horse and stop assuming that, because he can go to college, he has everything he wants and doesn't deserve any recognition for completely a college education."
...so now youre claiming he deserves more. what exactly is your point then? and you start off saying just cos he can afford to go to college doesnt mean he has everything he wants...but because he finishes college he therefore should get...whatever he wants? how do you know his parents didnt just blow all their savings on his stupid fucking course you dumbass? oh but he deserves to be showered with gifts! so who cares that his parents just paid for his course! god youre such a fucking retard.

go ahead, report me. we both know youre going to cos you cant handle the idea that youre wrong, and when someone calls you names you probably need your parents to buy you something special. because anything that happens in your life, you deserve a gift. right?

Everyone who says they're being spoiled if you expect ANYTHING for you birthday, card, party ANYTHING then YOU are actually spoiled since you didn't do anything to deserve it.

Most of you guys are being jerks. Its a big day, I agree with the people who said that getting gifts for graduating makes more sense than a birthday. And they aren't spoiled for expecting something after all that hard work, most people expect something for their birthday and they didn't do anything to deserve it- even if it's just a cake and a small family party.

That's what your parents should've done if they are low on funds, a cake and decorations are what, $20 dollars maybe. At least that means something instead of an apple, unless you are becoming a teacher and they have another gift or party planned for you...

#120--
1. I didn't say OP should or was expecting something, I only said that a lot of parents do give their kids some kind of gift for graduating college because so many posters on here acted like it was some ridiculous thing for anyone to get a graduation gift.
2. The reason I said the thing about "never get anything good in their life again" is because the people who say he shouldn't be complaining because there are starving kids in Africa are probably the type of people who would throw that in someone's face anytime they spent any money on themselves-even just for things like going out to a nice dinner, getting a nice car, etc....NORMAL things. And giving someone a present isn't WASTING money!
3. NO I didn't say he deserved more. NO I didn't say he should get whatever he wants because he graduated. You're just putting words in my mouth because you want to believe I said something I didn't. How do I know the parents didn't blow all their savings on his college?? How do YOU know that they DID? And how do you know that OP didn't pay for it HIMSELF?? And I never said anything about him deserving to be showered with gifts. I do not think that. Again, something you were only wanting me to be saying so you could try and make a point that isn't true.
I think you just need to actually read the words I write, not assume what I mean, who I am, or what my life is like.
DUMBASS.

Give them both either one grape or a pomegranate seed for their birthdays.

#125 - On 05/13/2009 at 9:31pm by Quinnjamin

the point is, he should be grateful that he got anything at all and his parents were there to witness his graduation. it is the norm to recieve graduation presents. however, the way the op worded this sounds like he wanted and expected something a lot more. in all reality, our parents either help us out with college or pay for it completely. student loans and things like that, are based off of parents and things like that. his gift is, his parents probably paid for him to go to college. his gift is, his parents cared enough to keep him on a straight track so he is able to go to college.

This ones was funny.
But not as funny as the other one's though.

#129 - On 05/13/2009 at 9:53pm by ilovefmlife

@122 actually you fail at logic. youd be spoiled if you expected something and when you didnt get it you wrote an FML about it. nobody cares if youre a little disappointed by the gift, its not like you can recieve nothing and go "hey thats awesome" but to be that affected by it that you go out of your way to tell a bunch of strangers how you were shortchanged...thats spoiled. if i were given only a card for my birthday then id probably say thankyou and move the fuck on.

#130 - On 05/13/2009 at 10:06pm by organisedchaos

@124
"1. I didn't say OP should or was expecting something"
"I think you just need to actually read the words I write, not assume what I mean, who I am, or what my life is like.
DUMBASS."

you were saying...? you just claimed to not be saying the exact thing i argued against. good comprehension skills.

"2. And giving someone a present isn't WASTING money!"
"I think you just need to actually read the words I write, not assume what I mean, who I am, or what my life is like.
DUMBASS."

again, your own quote is the perfect rebuttal to your stupidity. youve gone and assumed what people mean who they are and what their life is like...

"3. NO I didn't say he deserved more. NO I didn't say he should get whatever he wants because he graduated. You're just putting words in my mouth because you want to believe I said something I didn't. How do I know the parents didn't blow all their savings on his college?? How do YOU know that they DID?"

do you understand what a hypothetical is? apparently not.

"And how do you know that OP didn't pay for it HIMSELF??"

this is a hypothetical, so you can use them, you just cant understand them...

"And I never said anything about him deserving to be showered with gifts. I do not think that. Again, something you were only wanting me to be saying so you could try and make a point that isn't true. "

so...what WAS your point then? he doesnt deserve more than what he got...but he does deserve to complain about what he got cos he deserves more. even if his parents didnt pay for his course, why exactly are they obligated to give him more?

do tell, what exactly is your point, youve gone all out trying to explain what your point ISNT, but youre yet to clarify what exactly your point IS. unless this is all youve got "I only said that a lot of parents do give their kids some kind of gift for graduating college because so many posters on here acted like it was some ridiculous thing for anyone to get a graduation gift." in which case youre still stupid because nobody actually said that. at all. not one. or even implied it. go back to counting your toes.

#139 - On 05/14/2009 at 12:03am by MrZach

agreed with #7

especially if they're paying you through your four years, that's a gift in itself. if you really want something, get a job and help yourself =P

what's next, you'll all claim you walked to college uphill both ways in the snow?

jesus christ, this site is full of pretentious, self-righteous douchebags. especially organisedchaos.

chill people. not everyone has the same lifestyle. just because someone is better-off than you are doesn't make them a bad or selfish or spoiled person. they're just luckier than you and there's no point in being bitter about it.

#147 - On 05/14/2009 at 3:26am by theanonimouse

Haha, I love how some people are grabbing the FML as an opportunity to be all "DURR HURR that doesn't sound like an officially sanctioned Microsoft product so it MUST be bad, I'd better express my fear of the unknown on the internets or people might think I've CAUGHT THE GAY, A-DURR" :D

@69: what you're thinking of are Trojan horses (I think a whole 2 of them), which depend on fooling the user into LETTING them do their dirty work. There isn't one virus for OS X so far that could infect its way out of a paper bag, and that hasn't changed in the last 8 years or so, despite the adulation from Windows victims it would earn the writer of such a virus. Antivirus apps for Macs are there to prevent conscientious Mac users from spreading Windows malware to Windows computers.

OP, you come off sounding a little spoiled, though, just for (apparently) expecting a lavish gift. It always, always ends up better when you force yourself to stay humble and expect nothing; then you can be pleasantly surprised by just about anything. Besides, you're lucky enough to have been in good enough financial circumstances to put yourself (or be put) through college; it won't be very hard now to get yourself a job where affording a computer with a legitimate OS that can actually do something besides play games without defecating on itself isn't so daunting. I guess one thing college didn't teach you was perspective. :)

GIFTS?!?! For being graduating college?!?!?!? What you went there to FAIL?!?!? Everyone one who goes to college goes to pass..... AND i bet mommy and daddy paid for it too. Learn to work and fight for yourself. PS Macs suck. You probably wanted one bc you're too mentally deficient to learn how to avoid getting a virus in the first place. I want you to right click with that macbook....

#151 - On 05/14/2009 at 4:43am by Abood

@Shippicus: He wasn't too mentally deficient to learn how to avoid getting a virus in the first place: you do it by not using Windows in the first place. Done and done. Or were you just saying "Macs suck" because that's what everyone else (who's never used anything but Windows) is saying? I swear, the Windows camp is like the friggin' Soviet Union sometimes.

Also: two fingers instead of one. Try it sometime. (cue "that's what she said" jokes)

#152 - On 05/14/2009 at 5:02am by Shunnabunich

#155 - On 05/14/2009 at 5:58am by dinaco

To all the people screaming "Your parents probably wasted tons of money on your college education and now youe xpect a gift oh god you're so spoiled..."

WHO in the world said that the OP is from the US where you have to pay a freaking fortune to go to college?
A lot of federal states in Germany have free college education, all you pay is an administrative fee of about $60 each semester. And even here where I go to college my parents paid about $3000 total for my college education...for FOUR years that is.

And I'm sure there's other countries as well where you don't have to spend your life savings to get education.

And why is getting a gift for college graduation a sign of being spoiled??? There's sooooooooooo many people getting gifts such as cars when they graduate highschool...an graduating highschool is definitely less of an accomplishment than graduating college.

#156 - On 05/14/2009 at 8:13am by Puolukka

Overpriced proprietary piece of junk anyway.

#161 - On 05/14/2009 at 9:33am by ObadiahtheSlim

Why should the OP (or anyone graduating college) expect anything? Was the OP an exceptional student on the Dean's List? In any case, they're probably broke from paying the OP's tuition, and could barely afford the apple!

Where is the OP going to live after school? I'll bet it's with the parents.

Having the expectation of a gift leads me to believe the OP's shelves are full of "participant" trophies.

#162 - On 05/14/2009 at 10:20am by MrAdventure

#2 you are the man!
apple-pipe ftw!!

OP - YDI be thankful that you have a college education. The only thing I got when I graduated was $20,000 of debt from student loans : / If your parents paid or helped you pay for college at all you need to be more grateful >: [

#163 - On 05/14/2009 at 10:56am by BrannFYR

i can sympathize with you OP. i paid my way through college, didn't get shit from my parents during college, and got nothing after graduating (from a prestigious university w/ a degree in engineering). my brother failed out of a prestigious university on a baseball scholarship, and they pay for everything for him now while he's a JuCo playing ball trying to get back into a D1 school. he gets a car, and my 16 year old sister gets a car. i've been pretty independent my whole life, and being 22 now i know i don't want to rely on them, but seeing as that i've gotten nothing it's a slap in the face. at least they still love me, though, i can only complain so much about the attention and things my brother and sister get.

to get u INTO college!

3. at least they actually thought of u and
got u SOMETHING.

4. ur being really selfish. they got u something and u cant even think about reasonable reasons why they got u something cheap? an apple is good for u! and there's thousands of ppl who dont get ANYTHING from their parents!!

#170 - On 05/14/2009 at 5:41pm by dontknowaname

#171 - On 05/14/2009 at 7:31pm by Schwabra

Apple computers are good
:D
In fact the most common computers in US colleges are macs

so deal with it for those saying apple sucks, because it is fast, cool looking, comes with a billion free softwares which you would have to buy for windows.

And the first computers were macs, so yeah

I'm not saying windows are bad, its just that Macs don't suck.
Try one if you never did
:D

#172 - On 05/14/2009 at 8:21pm by koeda

#174 - On 05/15/2009 at 4:51am by RockieGirl

If your parents are the ones who paid for your schooling, I'd STFU and consider that the biggest gift (other than the gift of life of course) that you could get from them. And if they did not pay for your school, maybe your parents think your degree is good enough. Not everyone has the money to buy expensive gifts. And maybe the apple was a joke, like "hey, you didn't think we would actually be getting you a computer did you?".

The summary of this comment: Quit whining.

#183 - On 05/18/2009 at 2:21pm by Sucks2beYouxD

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. Chill the fuck out. It's tradition to get a present when you've accomplished something or passed some sort of milestone in your life. It doesn't have to be expensive, just thoughtful. In what way is an apple thoughtful? I, myself, would prefer a nice home made card or a letter over an apple.

#188 - On 05/20/2009 at 10:20pm by at0micmin3r

YDI for expecting a gift when nothing was promised to you in the first place.

#190 - On 05/22/2009 at 7:00pm by lemony_music_grl

Wow. Just wow. An apple? That's not even a thoughtful gift..... Come on. Now I dont expect anything expensive from my parents when I graduate college, but I at least expect something thsts thoughtful, and something thats useful. I'd be happy with something thats not gone 5 minutes after I start using it. I'd like something that is personal too. Something that matters to me. An apple? Any old fool can give some stranger an apple, and expect it to be enjoyed. just.....wow. Wake up parents and say contrats to your kid in a way that says you know them.

You guys are complete idiots!
Of course he expected something somewhat /nice/ from his parents!
When I say nice, I use the term loosely. How about a nice card at least? Or something that can make him smile and say, "My parents bought me that."
He graduated from college for crying out loud!
An apple? He must feel like his parents don't care about him at all!
I mean, yeah, if his brother or someone gave him an apple, it's obviously a joke, but graduating from college is a serious day, and they're gonna give him an apple?
Come on now.
You guys are acting like he said, "Today, I graduated from college and my parents gave me an apple. Not a car, not a computer, not even money! FML"
Seriously, you people can't be that small-minded and overreactive.
