Man or woman?

Today, I was with my kids. We saw a tiny little bug and they started freaking out. Trying to show them that bugs are not scary, I picked it up. It bit me and now I have to go to the doctor because my hand is the size of a balloon. FML

I agree, your life sucks (28927) - you totally deserved it (16076)

What bug was it? I mean if it looked dangerous you should've known but if you thought it was a ladybug or something harmless, then that's just bad luck.

Next time just leave it alone

You shouldn't lie to your kids, bugs can be harmful.

YDI for lying

#4 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:32pm by ptrek85

that SUCKS. i'm sorry, it must have not looked dangerous!

#5 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:33pm by tinkerbell67

way to go, haha

#6 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:34pm by buttdonkey

Next time listen to your kids. I hate bugs except for ladybugs, butterflies, and caterpillars.

#7 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:35pm by i_am_tiff_21

she may have just had an allergic reaction to it... the bug doesnt have to be poisonous

#8 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:35pm by _comic_

Ouch! That's why bug spray or even brooms were invented!

#9 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:36pm by tWitt3rBuG

Spiders aren't bugs.

#10 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:38pm by Big_Kane

I like ladybugs and spiders because they kill other bugs and then move out, they're so convenient! Anyways, yeah you should know better. Just because they are small doesn't meant they are harmless.

#11 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:38pm by someone1989

You should have thrown the bug on the child, then told him to stop being a baby

#12 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:41pm by Maddisonboii

ooh too bad it wasn't a radioactive spider O.O >_>

#13 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:42pm by Carosello

#10 Spiders are bugs, they aren't insects

#14 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:43pm by fatfaceunited

you mean, ARACHNIDS? "bug" is a generic term that includes both insects and arachnids.

#60 - On 08/20/2009 at 1:32pm by protooler31

I agree with #13

#15 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:44pm by mattmag

Next time read up on the little critters that inhabit your home surroundings. Many spiders and insects can actually be pretty dangerous, or if nothing else have very painful bites and stings. Some things should be killed on sight, especially if you find them inside the house.

#16 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:51pm by Nakedsquirrel

#4, that isn't the best thing to do, however it's also not ok to say they're all harmless. I can understand that the OG was trying to make her not scared of bugs, because I know so many people over the age of 20 who piss their pants everytime there is an ant, as if it is the end of the world. So, I say make your child not scared of bugs but also don't "make them angry" lets say.

#17 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:52pm by Demon_Squirtle

There is a middle ground between freaking out because a bug is in your vicinity and trying to pick it up. Teach your kids not to try to touch bugs because many of them will not appreciate it and bite back. But equally, as long as you're not bugging it, the bug won't hurt you.

And #10, they're arachnids. 8 legs. Insects have 6. Bug is a suborder of insects, technically.

#18 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:52pm by boatiebanter

way to take one for the team!haha

Karma

#20 - On 05/03/2009 at 2:57pm by FMLwin

I'm guessing it was a conenose beetle.

#21 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:00pm by inoculated

lesson learned - bugs are scary

#23 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:12pm by greensharpie

#13 needs to go back to high school biology.

"True Bugs" or "hemiptera" are an order of the class "insecta" which are within the phylum of "arthropoda." Spiders or "araneae" are an order of the class "chelicerata" which are also within the phylum of "arthropoda."

So, saying spiders are bugs is wrong in every possible way.

#24 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:17pm by kneegrow143

Don't pet dogs you don't know, don't pick up bugs you're not sure about.

#25 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:17pm by losergirl

So your hand swells up to the size of a ballon, but before going to the doctor, you submit the story to fmylife.com? :P

#26 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:30pm by Julle

I agree with #26 on this one...

#27 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:40pm by Heathersaur

Major stupidity.

#28 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:42pm by lotlux29

Did you type this with one hand?

#29 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:45pm by AdamB

you definitely deserved that one, but your life is still f*cked.

#30 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:45pm by Huff7

lol everyone, "bug" isn't a technical term

#31 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:48pm by robbietherabbit

just because bugs aren't scary, doesn't mean you should pick them up...

#32 - On 05/03/2009 at 3:53pm by BlerbFace306

it must have taken forever for you to type this.

#33 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:05pm by goldthiosulfate

24 bug-
An insect of the order Hemiptera, also known as the "true bugs". (Older taxonomies identify a suborder, Heteroptera.)
Any arthropod (excepting most crustaceans); includes insects, but also non-insects such as spiders and centipedes
so spiders are not true bugs but they are bugs by the second definition

#34 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:07pm by cyberhoy

Um, why don't you teach your children to avoid bugs, because you don't always know what they might do? I mean, case in point.

#35 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:13pm by kellster

Make sure you know it's a harmless bug first next time.

#37 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:34pm by 24788

Lesson learned for the whole family!

=X

#38 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:50pm by jSOPURE

bugs can be deadly, you shouldn't try to lie to kids

P.S..bugs don't bite, they sting, they have no teeth...

#39 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:53pm by alwyld

# 3 fails.

# 21 win for deducing with such little information.

OP, maybe now you're familiar with the golden rule. Don't fuck with shit, unless it fucks with you.

#40 - On 05/03/2009 at 4:55pm by glockjaw

Well, you did teach the kids a valuable lesson anyway: Don't pick up unknown animals.

And #39, some arthropods have mandibles that they can "bite" with.

#41 - On 05/03/2009 at 5:03pm by Player_Three

kids will be afraid of ghosts, the dark, and freddy kruger, but you don't have to prove that they are all safe.

#42 - On 05/03/2009 at 5:16pm by brio

this is obviously fake. if your hand was that bad you wouldnt be using the computer. next time come up with a bullshit story thats actually believable, dumbass

#44 - On 05/03/2009 at 8:23pm by waterpoloweasel

It's good that you were trying to teach them some common sense. People who go apeshit over insects piss me off.

#46 - On 05/03/2009 at 8:39pm by RPGod

#47 - On 05/03/2009 at 8:39pm by RPGod

as a nature and outdoor loving person, I highly recommend knowing bugs, insects, or any living organism, plant or animal before you touch it.

Oh and since everyone here seems to rip these people on taxonomy, can anyone identify an insect I took a picture of? I am just baffled because I can't seem to find it in any listing. I think its a beetle.

#50 - On 05/04/2009 at 2:23am by oastjc

how did you even manage to type this FML if your hand is like a balloon?

#51 - On 05/04/2009 at 4:48am by xrescuedx

@ 51. Do you only have one hand? If so, I apologize. If you have two like the rest of us, there's your answer. Try not to look for ways to rip apart all fmls.

#52 - On 05/04/2009 at 5:14am by wobbs

Today, I was minding my own business just going for stroll looking for some food... When all of a sudden two humanlings come and start poking and prodding me, while making dreadful noises. Scared, I tuck my legs and antennae in and try to become as small as possible. Then a fully grown human comes and picks me up. It's about to crush me with its hands when I suddenly lash out and bite its hand. I got away, but now I have only four legs. So much for dinner. I hate humans. FML

You know what's not funny? You, #53. Go fail somewhere else, thanks.

#54 - On 05/04/2009 at 10:13am by glockjaw

I don't think a creepy old guy asking if he can put a very tiny rubber band around your wrist is a bug.

#55 - On 05/06/2009 at 9:31pm by birchofacookie

wait, if its the size of a balloon, how are you typing this?

#56 - On 05/07/2009 at 4:06pm by laffytacky
