What bug was it? I mean if it looked dangerous you should've known but if you thought it was a ladybug or something harmless, then that's just bad luck.
Next time just leave it alone

You shouldn't lie to your kids, bugs can be harmful.
YDI for lying
that SUCKS. i'm sorry, it must have not looked dangerous!
Next time listen to your kids. I hate bugs except for ladybugs, butterflies, and caterpillars.
she may have just had an allergic reaction to it... the bug doesnt have to be poisonous
Ouch! That's why bug spray or even brooms were invented!
Spiders aren't bugs.

I like ladybugs and spiders because they kill other bugs and then move out, they're so convenient! Anyways, yeah you should know better. Just because they are small doesn't meant they are harmless.
You should have thrown the bug on the child, then told him to stop being a baby
ooh too bad it wasn't a radioactive spider O.O >_>
#10 Spiders are bugs, they aren't insects
you mean, ARACHNIDS? "bug" is a generic term that includes both insects and arachnids.

Next time read up on the little critters that inhabit your home surroundings. Many spiders and insects can actually be pretty dangerous, or if nothing else have very painful bites and stings. Some things should be killed on sight, especially if you find them inside the house.
#4, that isn't the best thing to do, however it's also not ok to say they're all harmless. I can understand that the OG was trying to make her not scared of bugs, because I know so many people over the age of 20 who piss their pants everytime there is an ant, as if it is the end of the world. So, I say make your child not scared of bugs but also don't "make them angry" lets say.
There is a middle ground between freaking out because a bug is in your vicinity and trying to pick it up. Teach your kids not to try to touch bugs because many of them will not appreciate it and bite back. But equally, as long as you're not bugging it, the bug won't hurt you.
And #10, they're arachnids. 8 legs. Insects have 6. Bug is a suborder of insects, technically.
way to take one for the team!haha
I'm guessing it was a conenose beetle.
lesson learned - bugs are scary
#13 needs to go back to high school biology.
"True Bugs" or "hemiptera" are an order of the class "insecta" which are within the phylum of "arthropoda." Spiders or "araneae" are an order of the class "chelicerata" which are also within the phylum of "arthropoda."
So, saying spiders are bugs is wrong in every possible way.
Don't pet dogs you don't know, don't pick up bugs you're not sure about.
So your hand swells up to the size of a ballon, but before going to the doctor, you submit the story to fmylife.com? :P
I agree with #26 on this one...
Did you type this with one hand?
you definitely deserved that one, but your life is still f*cked.
lol everyone, "bug" isn't a technical term
just because bugs aren't scary, doesn't mean you should pick them up...
it must have taken forever for you to type this.
24 bug-
An insect of the order Hemiptera, also known as the "true bugs". (Older taxonomies identify a suborder, Heteroptera.)
Any arthropod (excepting most crustaceans); includes insects, but also non-insects such as spiders and centipedes
so spiders are not true bugs but they are bugs by the second definition
Um, why don't you teach your children to avoid bugs, because you don't always know what they might do? I mean, case in point.
Make sure you know it's a harmless bug first next time.
Lesson learned for the whole family!
=X
bugs can be deadly, you shouldn't try to lie to kids
P.S..bugs don't bite, they sting, they have no teeth...
# 3 fails.
# 21 win for deducing with such little information.
OP, maybe now you're familiar with the golden rule. Don't fuck with shit, unless it fucks with you.
Well, you did teach the kids a valuable lesson anyway: Don't pick up unknown animals.
And #39, some arthropods have mandibles that they can "bite" with.
kids will be afraid of ghosts, the dark, and freddy kruger, but you don't have to prove that they are all safe.

this is obviously fake. if your hand was that bad you wouldnt be using the computer. next time come up with a bullshit story thats actually believable, dumbass
It's good that you were trying to teach them some common sense. People who go apeshit over insects piss me off.

as a nature and outdoor loving person, I highly recommend knowing bugs, insects, or any living organism, plant or animal before you touch it.
Oh and since everyone here seems to rip these people on taxonomy, can anyone identify an insect I took a picture of? I am just baffled because I can't seem to find it in any listing. I think its a beetle.

good thing that ur kid didnt touch it, are u ok?
how did you even manage to type this FML if your hand is like a balloon?
#51 - On 05/04/2009 at 4:48am by xrescuedx
@ 51. Do you only have one hand? If so, I apologize. If you have two like the rest of us, there's your answer. Try not to look for ways to rip apart all fmls.
Today, I was minding my own business just going for stroll looking for some food... When all of a sudden two humanlings come and start poking and prodding me, while making dreadful noises. Scared, I tuck my legs and antennae in and try to become as small as possible. Then a fully grown human comes and picks me up. It's about to crush me with its hands when I suddenly lash out and bite its hand. I got away, but now I have only four legs. So much for dinner. I hate humans. FML

You know what's not funny? You, #53. Go fail somewhere else, thanks.
I don't think a creepy old guy asking if he can put a very tiny rubber band around your wrist is a bug.
wait, if its the size of a balloon, how are you typing this?
do not teach your children to pick up things they don't know about.
agree #59...
