I know somebody that has a child-like voice. She does stuff like that all the time.

why would you do that? maybe it's time to move out

People are calling you an idiot? No.
You are my hero.
Seriously, why would you do that? You completely deserved whatever commotion that caused.
If it was really a telemarketer you have my kudos. That's hilarious!
You must have a really realistic child voice. But Telemarketers suck. I ain't gon' lie.
Look at it this way. At least he didn't call the police. False alarms from them come with a fine.
why would it matter if you're 20, seeing as you were trying to sound like a child?
That's hilarious, now I actually wish a telemarketer woud call so I could try it.
#14, she didn't say she's living there. she could just be visiting.
In this economy, it's not surprising someone might be staying at home while going to college.
Nothing wrong with living with your parents at 20, not everyone can afford to move out.
There's another way to get rid of them without the police... just say you'll go and get whoever they're looking for, leave the phone on a table and ignore it.
Yeah, #14, because every 20yr old, which would be a junior in college, is completely financially independent and has their own house. Oh, they also all drive Porsches and Mercedes. You must be 12, because you quite obviously have absolutely no idea what the economy is like or how expensive college is if this person is attending.
That said, I find this hilarious.
Nothing bad will happen... you're 20, child services is a joke and screws up more lives than it "protects" and even though I've been a telemarketer before they still suck!
Good job! :)
WIN!
haha smootth!
theeir probly like omfg a kid alone!??! hehe you must sound young on the line.
LOL THATS SO SMART IM GONNA DO THAT
So what the OP is twenty and living at home? I'm doing the same because my parents and I work barely minimum wage. (Thanks, economy that destroyed the housing industry and both of my parents' careers!) Anyway, people save their parents over fifteen grand a year doing that.
uhhh college people?? why not live at home in between semesters? 30, thats a different story.
Hilarious! The telemarketer deserved that, he must be a real idiot...
That's funny. I should do that too. I'm 20 as well, yet I have the voice of a child when I'm on the phone. I even get some people calling me for me and thinking they have the wrong number because of it.
Good times.
omg. ha ha/ who'd guess telemarketers have such initiative? People say weird crap to them all the time. = )
If I was the telemarketer I would assume that your mother/someone else was watching you.
I love playing games with telemarketers. I'd do the same!
If I was the telemarketer, I would have made fun of you and told you that your father was either dead or left your home forever.
Yeah, I really don't get how you being 20 matters if you were trying to sound like a small child. Obviously you succeeded.
lmao. They can't do anything to him if they see his kid is an adult.
Worst excuse ever
#33 - On 04/30/2009 at 7:37pm by 1AAC
unlike everyone else you thinks your cool, i think your an idiot for doing that.
some people take jokes seriously, especially on the phone. think before you do things next time.
sorry to be mean, but really, come on.
Everyone saying the OP was immature or an idiot: YOU grow up!
That was hilarious. Screwing with telemarketers is hilarious!! Telemarketers should know that they're going to get screwed with and when child services shows up and she answers the door as a 20 year old they're going to blame the TELEMARKETER, not her. That's a few less phone calls interrupting your dinner/family time.
why the hell is that "bull shit" and "your an idiot" THAT IS FHUCKING FUNNY! u go ahead and do that again...just make sure u tell them ur TWENTY!
Figures there would be some asshole calling bullshit although there's nothing THAT outrageous about it at all, gregfag.
This is way too uninteresting to be made up. But to actually happen is funny.
I'm sure the calls are recorded and so the person wanted to look good for their supervisor by calling in child services lol.
as much as i don't like telemarketers, it actually makes me happy to know he/she called CPS.....that was actually a fairly thoughtful thing to do
I'm 19. People think I'm 30+ on the phone and 16 when they see me. FML
i don't agree with the people that are saying that the telemarketer is an idiot etc-- i think that shows that the telemarketer is a good person! they were concerned enough about the safety of (what they thought was) a young child that they took the extra step to ensure the child was in good hands. i know i certainly would not have gotten involved like that, and i'm sure most of you wouldn't have either! we need more concerned citizens like that telemarketer.
anywayyy, this was completely hilarious!
That made me laugh so hard. People can take things way out of context but atlest they are alert and aware that it might of been a real thing so I'm glad she contacted services , so if this really happened the child would be safe.
c'mon. everybody messes with telemarketers. haven't you ever had fun with one of them? it's amazing! those that think the telemarketer is NOT an idiot obviously have never dealt with a telemarketer the fun way.
but #46 and everyone else, telemarketers AREN'T idiots? i mean some certainly are, but its completely not correct to say that every single one is? their profession has no larger proportion of idiots than the proportion of idiots in whatever your profession is. i don't personally know a single telemarketer, it just pisses me off when people make shitty statements of generalization like yours.
Hahahahaha.
SIgh. gotta love(hate) them telemarketers.
Well at least this one did it with the best of intentions; i only dislike them because the phone calls get annoying.
Hmm, it warms my heart ever so slightly that the Telemarketer cared enough to call help for you.
#49 - On 04/30/2009 at 9:26pm by nina
That's Great!!! We always mess with telemarketers! We just pass the phone around and talk with them until they hang up... way to go.. teach them how it feel to waste someone's time.
the telemarketer needs to mind his own damn business
For all the people saying YDI, like you've NEVER said something weird to a telemarketer. The telemarketer was pretty dumb for buying that story. Why would you be telling him instead of a friend. But that's probably one of the funniest telemarketer stories I've heard. Next time tell them he's deceased; see what the telemarketer does.
#52 - On 04/30/2009 at 10:10pm by curryndricegirll
hilarious i would never think of doing something like that, i always just hang up haha
I used to mess with telemarketers until it dawned on me that most of them hate their job more than I hate their job.
24 - he was just doing what he thought was right. OPs fault for being a dipshit. i hope your dad smacked you over the head for making him deal with CPS.
36 - calm the hell down! it's their job.
haha, you never expect the telemarketers to actually care about you...
well its great that they cared enough - but just because your dad was gone why didn't she ask if your mom was gone too before deciding to call child services?
Because of good samaritan laws, the telemarketer could have spent up to 90 days in jail if s/he hadn't called CPS as a result of this joke. Its the same thing as finding porn on a friends computer - you don't report it asap to the police, then your just as guilty as the person who downloaded it for their entertainment when it comes to time to hand out sentencing. And telemarketing calls are often recording. What if this happened to be a day her boss was listening in to see how she was doing her telemarketing job? why should the telemarketing have to go to jail because the OP is a complete idiot?
these people need to stop being so uptight, you're pretty much hilarious
H I L A R I O U S
"Today, I work for CPS and we received a call about a five year old left alone for five days. I went to investigate and found out it was a 20-year old playing a prank on a telemarketer. FML"
I'm a telemarketer and i think this is great! I'm pretty surprised that it phased the person making the call, you really do hear crazy stuff constantly. You deserved it, but only because it makes for a great story.
Also, i wouldnt be so quick to say that the telemarketer was a good person. I can see someone being sick of it, knowing company policy, and thinking "i bet i'll see this on FML tonight if i call CPS"
No matter what the intent, the right thing was done. But it would surprise me if that telemarketer actually thought you were a child.
And thank you everyone for messing with us. I don't mean that sarcastically. The job is pretty boring, and you keep me from losing my mind when you say funny things. So prank on!
That's hilarious.

#14 I agree, but why did you go to all the effort of putting an accent mark (which was backwards btw) on your u when the possessive "tu" doesn't have an accent?
haha that was good. respect! but yea telemarketers are so annoying... though they're prolly just trying to make money..
That's not funny at all! When I wuz in the 4th grade my ex-stepmom DID abuse mi and my dad left mi alone and my teacher called children youth services and they helped. You DO NOT joke about that!
Anyone who voted YDI is dumb. Telemarketers deserve it all! Next time, try something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5z4Vs26-TI
A 20 year old living at home is bad? Since when? Not many 20 year olds can afford to live on their own seeing as how, ya know, they're (typically) college students and aren't making $100,000 a year to go buy a house. Some of you are just ridiculous.
Anyway, while it's nice that the telemarketer cared enough to do that, what an idiot. They didn't stop to think that perhaps you have a MOM, are living with someone else, haven't been told yet that he died/left, or some other situation that really doesn't merrit a call to Child Services? Dumb.
#70
get the stick out of your ass.
and its "me" not "mi"
your teacher should have taught you how to spell before she called CPS.
Good for her, I'm glad she's actually doing her job right, unlike some people.
I always just tell them that the person they are looking for don't live here anymore.
do you Americans actually move out before you're 20?! ha! no wonder you're all a bit silly!
To #19 im in college and have had my own place since I was 18 its not that hard you just have to work.
I give this dude props next time use sound board dot com good stuff on there to
The fact you are 20 means nothing. You were pretending to be a child, and it worked.
If anything that just means you know that you're good at prank calls.
That's what I was thinking, #73. Even if it was a child, s/he could still have another parent at home.
bahaha, that is hilarious, kudos.
aww. It's ok, the telemarketer's an idiot for thinking anyone takes telemarketing calls seriously.
I'd give the same story to the child protection agency...
Mabey you could get a younger sibling or cousin to play the part for you.
I'd say that thats still more of a win than a fail for you that the telemarketer beleived you.
Dude, high 5. That was hilarious.
#84 - On 05/01/2009 at 11:34pm by thelonelylurker
That's an awesome way to prank a telemarketer!
But of course you had to get one of those few that actually have consciences, huh? That sucks.
heh that's just plain funny :P
kudo's for the telemarketer btw
Are you insane? How is this an FML AT ALL? You literally asked for it.
i can see myself doing that...who doesn't hate telemarketers! so all those people bashing her! -_-
He/she did that because telemarketers need to mind their own goddamn business!
How does one become a Tele-Marketer?
move to Montreal, apply for any job that includes the words "motivated sales assistants," or "TSRs."
the one good telemarketer in the world.
but this had to have happened years ago. I haven't received a telemarket call since the natiomal do not call list was put into play.
