(0)Spell check rocks :P
(0)asses is a word, spell check wouldn't recognize it as a mistake, idiot
(0)I take it your thesis was not on donkeys?
(0)lol!
nice pic btw
(0)shows that someone needs to stay in school a little bit longer...
and #1 - i think asses would be in spell check as the plural of ass, i could be wrong though.
(0)Yah. This is why we can't completely rely on spellcheck.
Hopefully the teacher has a good sense of humor.
(0)#4 if I used this my professor would probably kick my ass
(0)That is prime. Hah.
#5 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:11pm by jewel5
(0)haha way to go kid. YDI
If you are doing your senior thesis you should have proofread it a bit better, and we learned this in elementary school, check your spell check for words that slip by (asses/assess there/their bye/by/buy/ which/witch etc
(0)YDI. Its a big enough paper, you should have checked for shit like that before handing it in
(0)YDI for not knowing how to spell. Even if you do know how to properly spell "assess," you should never trust the automatic spell check: you should always have another person proofread your papers before you hand them in.
#8 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:12pm by Inoku
(0)#1: even if OP used spell check, it wouldn't pick it up because it's spelled correctly. It's just the wrong word.
OP: At least everyone who reads it will get a kick out of it!
(0)To get back at my ex for cheating on me, I changed her auto-correct to change the word "an" to "buttsex" and the word "of" to "whore". She didn't notice til after she got her first paper back
(0)ur a idiot... and that's coming from a 14 year old
(0)let's hope that your professor likes big asses and if so, i hope he won't mind. ;)
(0)Oh that sucks :( Well that happens to me.... The computer only knows that asses and assess are both words so it won't correct... Well maybe the professor might not notice?
(0)You're a senior in college and you can't spell ASSESS?? Fail. YDI. You're gonna fail college now, good job.
#13 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:16pm by PierreChaqueJour
(0)If you didn't re-read your paper, or have someone edit it... that was dumb. YDI.
(0)#8: Yeah, that's why spell check rocks. You know what else rocks? Sarcasm.
Also, being that lazy with a senior thesis is a YDI. It's easy to be holier-than-thou on FML, but in this case, spellcheck is one of those things that rewards laziness in our culture. So I'm going to be holier-than-thou. .
#15 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:17pm by libertyprime
(0)roflmao ahahhahaahahahahahahahhaa XD!!!!
(0)Uh, no, he's not, #13... He might just get marked off for grammar/spelling mistakes, if that...
(0)I once wrote a biology report and when my teacher was handing it back, I got 95/100, I lost 5 points for spelling "organisms" as "orgasms"
Hopefully you dont lose 85 points
(0)lmao @ #10 - that is so awesome
(0)Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea,
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight for it two say,

#20 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:19pm by ellebell
(0)What, did you write it the night before or something?
Hilarious nonetheless! :D
(0)#17 I do that ALL the time! Only I read it as orgasms instead of organisms. Uugh god I don't know why.
Anyway... OP: Like others have said, hopefully your teacher will have a sense of humor. Plus, there are worse swears out there. It's not like you said fuck on it, right?
(0)lol #20
(0)Proofread, my friend. YDI.
(0)good job #20 ;D
but really, why would you rely on spellcheck for your senior thesis...?
that blows ass but honestly YDI hahaha
(0)wow, and you made it to your senior year? good for you!
(0)haha #20.
Well, hopefully your reader is tolerant of that and will let you know what you wrote needs to be edited. YDI
"Today, I was reading my students' senior papers. This paper determines whether or not they graduate high school. I thought I taught these 17 and 18 year old students well. Turns out, one smart aleck put "asses" on his paper. 17 times. I guess I was wrong. FML."
(0)To the people saying that spell check wouldn't catch it - Mine doesn't have "asses" in it. Even if you do you have it in your spell checker, I'm not sure about you all but mine also uses grammar-checks to be differentiate between "their" and "there", etc. Point is this would have never slipped through my system, even if I didn't proof read it myself.
Besides, what was the topic? If you use the same word 17 times, you may want to reconsider your structure unless it's a common word like "as" haha.
(0)lmfao!!! this made my life!!!!
(0)It's not even going to matter. A thesis isn't about spelling its about your ideas and how well you communicate them. Your prof is just going to laugh... a lot
(0)Learn how to spell.
#10-- you are amazing.
(0)That's an orgy of asses!
(0)who cares, it's high school!
(0)lol, you can make that mistake in high school.
(0)Spell check wouldn't pick it up; "asses" IS a word.
YDI for not knowing how to spell "assess" and having to find it out afterwards..,
#35 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:45pm by dol567
(0)If it was an autobiography it would be "dumbass".
#36 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:46pm by Retiredrockstar
(0)lol at number 10 :)
#37 - On 04/28/2009 at 5:46pm by sLap
(0)This is why you actually proofread, kiddo. You can still write something that looks ridiculous yet is spelled correctly.
(0)I have done this and, as an education major, it was significant. It always pays to proofread.
(0)Haha, I know of several people that might do this.
So I'm guessing you're too lazy to look over your work like me?
(0)Haven't they always told us in English 101 to ALWAYS find someone else(at least 2) to proof-read before you hand something in? Guess you were not listening when the teacher said that,eh?
FYI, spell check is a lazy student's way of proofreading. I'm also guessing you didn't proofread AFTER you finished typing the paper.
NOTA BENE: After typing a paper, read it over to make sure it says what you want it to say and give it to someone to go over. Your English professors would happily do that for you, believe me!
YDI.
(0)Spell check wouldn't have picked that up; asses is still a word. YDI for not knowing how to spell 'assess'.
And HA #20.
#42 - On 04/28/2009 at 6:03pm by dol567
(0)Pretty sure he knows how to spell, probably just forgot the second 's'.
Still, YDI for reading through it after typing it up.
(0)why are people saying its ok because the OP is in high school? where in the world does it say he/she's in high school? last time i checked, a senior thesis is for college
(0)that is your fault. you either set your spell check to set "assess" to "asses" or your sorry ass can't spell.
(0)Yes, spell check would not have caught it. However, most of the newer programs have something called "spelling AND grammar" check that would have caught it right away.
(0)Don't be redundant. >:O
Are you a non-speaker? Sucks if you didn't mean it. :/
#48 - On 04/28/2009 at 6:21pm by nobodyno
(0)I can understand doing that a couple of times, but how in hell did you spell it wrong 17 times?
(0)you really shouldnt use a word of that caliber 17 times in a paper anyway.
(0)Learn to proofread.
#51 - On 04/28/2009 at 6:27pm by nocturnal_crazy
(0)I would give you an F just for using the word "assess" 17 times.
(0)ha ha. aw. you should look at synonyms. = )
(0)blame Microsoft Word for this
(0)Dang bro... lets just hope that your teacher thinks that its some sort of sexual hint... you could use that to your benefit... one more thing, hope she (if its a she) is hot.
D.C.
(0)LOLOLOLOL! Best thesis EVER!!!
(0)I know the poster. I know the professor. The professor's fifty-eight years old and happily married.
(0)Just tell them that you forgot the "s".
????? " S "?????????????????
Sagen Sie ihnen gerade, dass Sie den "s" vergaßen.
Sólo diga que usted olvidó el "s".
EDIT: They turned the Japanese to all "?".
(0)its ok. im dyslexic and i did it all the time when i was in school lol my teachers whould make me turn things in early or have me type EVERYTHING before they would let me turn it in. thank go for a mom with an english major hahahaha
(0)how could you or anyone else miss something like that?
#60 - On 04/28/2009 at 7:07pm by stinkybutt
(0)That's how ready you are to graduate.
(0)i would have given you an F anyways just for using assess 17 times.. YDI
(0)i hope u all see this wonderful example of a dumbassess lmao tht stinks though really ahaha sorry 2 hear
(0)You do realize that if you proofread this won't happen/
(0)To be optimistic, maybe the teacher won't notice. They may input the word "assess" because that's what they're expecting to read.
People do that. They sometimes don't realize that the word "the" was repeated in a written sentence.
#65 - On 04/28/2009 at 7:24pm by katzgoboom
(0).....ya I don't see why you wouldn't have proofread it dawg.
(0)That's okay. Next year, I'll probably have just as many mistakes as you seniors.
(0)#20, excellent :) #57 i think they will get that OP forgot the "s" and it was necessary to write than in four languages why? OP, just ouch the sloppiness will not win you points, but I don't think you have to worry about kissing the whole paper good bye. On the bright side, you got to post one of the best FML's in awhile ;)
(0)#20 marry me
(0)A freudian slip perhaps? :P
(0)Computers and spellcheck were invented for good reasons.
(0)Spellcheck
(0)that's ok ... your prof. is going to think you r a dumb a$$ and he is right
(0)#70 and 71, Sinse "asses" is a word, it wouldn't make a difference. And yes, they most likely realize the importance of computers, due to the fact that they did the assignment on the computer. You may argue that it could have been hand-written, but no teacher I know would ever let me turn in a written paper. If you disagree, you are just retarded.
(0)You probably shouldnt be repeating the same word 17 times throughout your essay. Use some variation of vocabulary.
(0)LOL @ #9 (I'm guessing used to be #10)
(0)I hope you all don't think #20 wrote that. It's in my Literature book. Still good though.
(0)What Taylor Mali, The impotence of proofreading on youtube to learn why its important to proofread your papers!
Holy shit 19, that is incredible. :D
#79 - On 04/28/2009 at 8:31pm by Nemephosis
(0)ummm you probably shouldnt be writing a senior thesis if you dont know the difference between those words.
(0)Haha spellcheck wouldn't have saved you there! At least it'd be a fun read for your profs :P
(0)haha moderated this. owned
(0)How many words end in one s and make a soft s sound?
(0)bummer, but it happens. I sent out a sigh-up sheet to all the student orgs at school to get them to sign up to bring food to spring picnic. One entry was for a group to sign up for Porn 'N Beans. FML
(0)LOL! one of my professors had this on their syllabus :D
(0)I'm going to go ahead and say that you deserved it. One time is a careless typo. Seventeen times means you didn't know how to spell the word, which you clearly should at your age.
(0)why would you wite a senior essay with the same word written 17 times?
(0)You know your teach my not even mind.
Well if you are a bad student.
My English 2 teacher actually told us that when we write reports that MOST teachers stack papers into 3 sections. They will read the good first, then the bad, then the medium and stuff like that. So if you aren't that well in that class then they won't even pay attention.
Lmao.
(0)I don't get why my #2 comment was moderated... it didn't say anything bad at all... What the hell? ? ?
(0)actually spellcheck would have caught this word. sometimes if i'm on a roll writing a paper i might right asses instead of assess but, spellcheck catches it. even if spellcheck doesn't work, it's always important to re read your papers and stuff before printing them out. this really isn't an fml. teachers probably see assess spelled like asses all the time.
(0)i think your teacher will let it slide that you forgot the s, ( i hope) but the fact that you used the same verb 17 times in a senior thesis instead of a variety of different words is what i would be worried about.
#91 - On 04/28/2009 at 10:23pm by lovemusic1694
(0)i was thinking exactly what #74 was. I wouldn't be so worried about the typo's, but more about the fact that you used the same verb 17 times in a senior thesis instead of a variety of verbs. good luck
#92 - On 04/28/2009 at 10:26pm by lovemusic1694
(0)i was thinking exactly what #74 was. I wouldn't be so worried about the typo's, but more about the fact that you used the same verb 17 times in a senior thesis instead of a variety of verbs. good luck
#93 - On 04/28/2009 at 10:26pm by lovemusic1694
(0)and i just typed it into word and spellcheck DOES catch it on my version, but i don't know about yours
#94 - On 04/28/2009 at 10:29pm by lovemusic1694
(0)YIKES sorry about all of the posts my computer was being screwy
#95 - On 04/28/2009 at 10:34pm by lovemusic1694
(0)pshhh what a dumbass.
(0)Totally deserved it. You shouldn't use a word like "assess" 17 times in your senior thesis. I'm a freshman and I know that.
I know a person who got an A+ on a college paper she rushed JUST because she misspelled "Public" and said "Pubic", who knows, you might get lucky and gain points?
(0)Ugggh that sucks!
I don't think that you deserved it - we all mess up. It just sucks that it happened on an important paper! @_@ Betcha next time you'll proof-read ten times!
(0)I hope your thesis is at least fifty pages long because intending to use the word "assess" at least 17 times shows a pretty crappy vocabulary.
(0)Just so you all know, spellcheck won't catch every wrong spelling and grammatical detail on an essay. Microsoft Word will not know the difference between "principal" and "principle" for example nor will it know if a sentence is 100% understandable.
Best bet is to have somebody who has a better knowledge of english check it for you. Their understanding of the language will mean they can catch more problems in the essay that you nor the average person would find.
(0)I was under the impression that those were things that were edited/reviewed heavily before submission!

(0)STOP RUINING FMLs....here is a good one that I couldn't submit and I am going to put this comment on all the others..
"Today, I looked at the top FMLs for the day. FML"
(0)I don't think that anyone would actually submit a senior thesis without proofreading multiple times, and probably having someone else proofread as well. You lose, sir.
(0)You just made me realize that I legitimately used "asses" in my thesis.
It's the plural of as, the smallest unit of Roman currency.
#106 - On 04/29/2009 at 1:30am by TL
(0)That's your own damn fault. Spell check is there for a reason.
(0)YDI, for using the word assess 17 times in a paper.
(0)ROFLMAO. NICE. HAHAHA.
(0)did you happen to proof read your work? There is no way in hell you could have confused asses with assess... Although there is only one less 's' that is a mistake that should only be made by people who are below grade 5.
(0)Thanks to the magical FML gnomes that put my moderated-for-no-reason donkey comment back up!
(0)Hopefully, Sir-Mix-a-Lot will be subbing that day and grading the papers?
#112 - On 04/29/2009 at 11:25am by derailed
(0)WOW. that sucks!
(0)It's called proof-reading, and having someone else read over it too. Try it some time.
(0)at least you were consistent...
(0)That's called being a lazy-ass and relying too much on spell check. It won't catch stuff like that because "asses" is the plural of "ass." Try proofreading next time.
(0)Wow, the exact same thing happened in my college's newspaper. Even better, the topic was about gays, making for a really awkward error. Check out the website link and search for "asses".
(0)It's too bad that this happened. But I understand.
All these people who say you deserved it probably didn't have to write a Senior Thesis (like we did) and they don't realize that it's already hard enough to write a paper of that length and make it convincing and worry about your defense. Misspelling a word a bunch of times is a common mistake to make- and when a paper is that long, using it 17 times isn't that bad. Come on, people. Lighten up a little bit.
(0)Hopefully your teachers won't be too harsh and will asses your assignment fairly.
#119 - On 04/30/2009 at 1:21pm by DeeJayD
(0)There is a process called proofreading that you should do.
(0)That really sucks. When you proofread you sometimes read what you think is there and miss what is really there. It's a good idea to have others proofread your stuff to find errors like that. I hope that the teacher understands.
#121 - On 04/30/2009 at 11:50pm by aye_aye
(0)SPELLCHECK!!! DUH!
(0)asses is a real word, so spell check wouldn't catch something like that anyway, what you need is a good proofreader. like me! jk...but seriously. read your stuff before you turn it in. and maybe even have someone else read it and see if they find anything.
(0)OH NO!!! And I bet you read it through a hundred times without even noticing!!!
I hope the people reading your paper miss it too :~S
(0)I DID THE EXACT SAME THING ON MY SENIOR PROJECT!!!
Thank goodness for the revision process!
(0)um, did you reread it BEFORE you turned it in? DUMB!
#126 - On 05/14/2009 at 5:23pm by pianodoctor
(0)I agree with 50, and I'm surprised he was the first to say it. You attempted to use a word like "assess" 17 times? I doubt your biggest problem is spelling.
(0)WOW that sucks. I remember two years ago on a drama script project we had to make of a fairy tale that I made rumplestiltskin a rapper etc....well once i said "Dances and rapes" instead of "raps" But I am sorry man.
(0)this isn't FML worthy, you're just a dumb ass ho can't proof read their own damn writing. you are an example of American schools being shitty b
(0)ur a big racist dickshit American schools are better than your shitty education.
(0)Uhh, spell check anyone?
#131 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:23pm by Seana01
(0)Number 129- "...you're just a dumb ass ho can't proof read their own damn writing."
I believe you meant, "you're just a dumb ass WHO can't proofread their own damn writing." (:
(0)YDI for several reasons:
1. Not checking and rechecking it before turning it in.
2. Using the word "assess" 17 times in one paper.
3. Apparently reading your paper for fun a week later (because that's when you discovered it).
4. Actually counting the number of times you said it in the paper.
(0)ahahahaha!
