Am I wrong in thinking baby-showers are more of an afternoon thing, and 21st birtdays are more of an evening/late night affair. And isn't getting engaged just more of an announcement, with the engagement party happening mostly weeks later? Can't see how either would have affected your plans...

Maybe your annoyed she 'stole your thunder' like that chick off 'Friends'.
