Today, I went to the sandcastle contest at my local beach. While waiting in line for my hotdog, a man cut in front of me and demanded a cup of water. I called him a jack ass and was saying how people like him give us a bad reputation on the beach. I then see him running to his choking daughter. FML

yeah i dont really see how water is supposed to help someone who is choking, but you still shouldnt assume that he was being a douche.
You're so observant of your surroundings. Way to note what was going on around you. Maybe next time you see a frantic man needing water, you'll take a good hard look around you before you assume he's a jackass.

This is F the daughter's life.
Today I was at the beach eating a hot dog and I started choking. My father panicked. He ran away, and I assumed that he was going to find someone to help. He comes back with a cup filled with water. I died of asphyxiation. FML.
Not your fault. He should've said something but at the same time, I'm sure he wasn't really thinking about courtesy at that moment.

It doesn't sound that ridiculous, if you have food or water go down wrong it really isn't call for the Heimlich Maneuver and honestly drinking something afterward gets rid of the scratchiness. Definitely an oops moment on your part freaking out on him, but honestly unless his daughter was really young he could have done better in the situation too. I'll give you the FML

She probably wasn't choking in the sense that she had an object blocking her airways. She probably accidentally got water in her airways - sea water or her own saliva. It's happened to everyone before when you swallow some liquid the wrong way and you end up choking. In that situation, drinking something DOES help.
You don't really deserve this, he should've mentioned his choking daughter.. and I really doubt water is going to help his choking daughter anyway..
If I were the father, chances are I wouldn't have said or heard anything that wasn't going to help my daughter. He was probably going nuts or in shock, the poster probably shouldn't have said anything, but the dad probably shouldn't be blamed for anything beyond being a scarred and confused dad.

Also, to anyone who suggested he should have mentioned his choking daughter... You're kind of a moron. If someone rushes somewhere and frantically demands something, you expect it to be understood that it's urgent, regardless of whether or not you explain it.
She probably had something that got partially stuck in her airway. Water can help dislodge it sometimes. Only ever happened to me once, though.

She prolly wasn't actually choking. She may have been coughing on something perhaps and was close to it. Water does help before she gets to the point of actually chocking and the Heimlich Maneuver is needed.
First off, if some one cuts in line just for water and sounds urgent, let it be. It doesn't take that long to get that glass of water and it's prolly for something important. No need to yell at them and be bitchy. You were the only jackass there.
Second, why wasn't he yelling and screaming his daughter was choking? It's gonna be an either or thing. He'll be in panic and screaming to the world what's happening to his daughter, or he's in shock--making him pretty much mute and only focused on one thing: helping his daughter.
I don't really have a third, but did those few seconds REALLY kill you? I mean, srsly. Get over urself. And stop calling other ppl jackass'. It's not nice =)

It's not always clearly obvious that someone cutting you in line is there for a good reason. For all we know the man may not have done anything "frantic" as you're all assuming. All the OP stated was the he demanded a cup of water, which if it's as he says, sounds rather rude. Of course we all know in hindsight that he had "good reason?" to (not sure if it's a good idea to give a choking person water...). I'm sure most people would construe that as rude behavior if they were in his place, it's just that not all of us call someone a jackass even if we think they are. I know I wouldn't, but I don't blame the guy for having that kind of personality.
It's not like you knew that's what he wanted it for. I'm surprised water popped into his mind before the Heimlich!

Heh, both a YDI and a FYL. Because the father was obviously stupid (bringing water to her choking daughter, demanding a glass of water instead of quickly explaining what was happening) and because, well, you should have been more polite yourself lol.

haha something like this happened to my friend. he desperately needed napkins because he stabbed his own hand and was bleeding everywhere, so he cut the guy in front of him. he was then accused of stealing whatever the guy he cut was buying (shoes, i think). and this all happened in a country where he didn't speak the language.

Exactly! First of all if your child was choking im pretty sure u would be in too much of a panic to worry about cutting in line! It was an emergency even tho the guy wasn't going about it the right way but you still shouldn't jump on him swearing at the man. It's a line for food and it took two damn seconds so next time if you say anything it might be a little more respectable!
