My phone doesn't have warning beeps. If that's the case for your phone, you should've checked. I always check. Call him on your house phone right back?
Say something like, "I didn't catch what you said, but I feel bloody awful right now." Or something. Chances are, its true.

Someone's going to say, "This is why you should have all your serious talks in person, not over the phone." I sorta agree with this statement, but I also see that you can't always do things in person too.

Stop playing mind games too. They don't get you anywhere in life and just piss people off.
