I guess the whole "natural" argument doesn't really hold up. What *does* hold up is that the choice of which parts of the body one should shave is personal. The fuzz that girls sometimes get on their breasts, though it's normal, can be troublesome, and if a girl wants to remove it with laser removal and has the means to do so, that's her choice. But if she doesn't want to take that step, that's also her choice. And doesn't laser removal cost money??

However, I disagree that women are expected to remove body hair simply because of some evil sexist pact made by 'Society'. Yeah, the notion is perpetuated by advertising and such, but that's only because they know it appeals. And the reason it appeals is that hirsutism is a sign of high levels of testosterone, so hairless women=more fertile-looking=more sexually attractive. As many have stated, mammals have hair. Plenty of women have long, wiry hairs in places that aren't armpits. Think of grandma's "chin hairs", they can also occur on the face, neck, chest, and stomach. An abundance of hair may be linked to higher levels of testosterone (in which case she probably has a high sex-drive) but long thick hairs can occur even when hormones levels fall in the usual ranges.

As for why a woman might not choose to depilate despite societal pressure, there are all the reasons mentioned above, and it would also make an awesome squeamishness / misogyny tester. She might even shave it when she's dating someone, but figures "why bother?" when it's just one-night stands with last-call losers.

There is something called polycystic ovarian syndrome, that I happen to have, that often causes excess body hair, and it's become something I am very sensitive about.
