Today, I got in an argument with my wife. I told her that I feel like she immediately disagrees with anything I say. She immediately disagreed and said she never does that. FML

Just agree with her and slink away with your tail between your legs.

Just point out that that statement implies a contradiction, yell 'QED' and walk away, assured that she has seen the error in her ways. That's how emotionally charged situations work, right?

She could have asked for examples, or asked why he felt that way. Aside from the irony of her answer specifically, immediately getting defensive isn't good communication.

Arguing with the wife, you have a lot to learn my friend.

If you didn't see this before you got married YDI. That's something you'd find out unless you rushed into it.

this could possibly be a new developement

Very true it is possible. However ,that kind of personality trait doesn't usually just show up. Though I believe if she is stressed it could be wearing her down , but how she handles stress more than likely came up at some point prior to the marriage

Tell her she never disagrees with anything you say, ever. Then she will have to disagree with you, and admit she always disagrees with you. BOOM! Reverse psychology. :D

Set yourself up for failure there. You left absolutely no escape.

you put her on the defensive. never put a spouse on the defensive if you want meaningful discussion. and never use terms like you ALWAYS or you NEVER. it puts them on the defensive because it's likely you're exaggerating

Some people just refuse to admit when they're wrong. Trying to get her to see that may be a lost cause.
