By yes, yes it does :( - 30/04/2014 21:11 - United States

Today, I was waiting on a Canadian tourist at work, and he bought some of the most expensive stuff on the menu. I was excited about maybe getting a big tip, so I casually said that in the USA, waiters make most of our money off tips. The guy just snorted, "Sucks to be American, eh?!" and left. FML

That's basically asking for a tip. What a way to treat customers.

You were fishing for it but he was being a dick. I voted both.

I don't ever try to hint about a tip at all it makes it feel forced and stuff but he didn't sound like the greatest customer to serve.

Guys guys, I worked as a waitress. My hourly pay was $2.13, however, if I didn't make enough in tips to cover min. Wage ($7.25) my boss would have to cover it, otherwise it's illegal. So if I worked say 3 hours and didn't make at least $21.75 in tips and wage combined, then my employer had to cover the rest. I had to be making AT LEAST min. Wage always. I'm not sure if that applies to all states, but it applies to mine. (NC)

Canadians usually make most of their money from tips too, but we would never ever ask for a tip, which you basically did. If a waiter or waitress asked me for a tip I would not tip them.

Being American...if you'd have said that to me I wouldn't have left a tip either...Just because you serve me if it isn't good service or I feel like you're forcing a tip from me you're not getting one

I think the majority of people know that Americans live off of tips.

I'm a Canadian, and I've worked in the restaurant industry, guess what? Tips is how our Canadian waitors and waitressess make their money too.

Well.. Today I got NO TIP on a € 1200 bill. Group of 31 people upstairs... And I was managing it alone, even while I get paid €9 par hour, this still sucks
