Today, I came home early from business trip in Paris, I bought an engagement ring. I was going to take my girlfriend of 2 years out and propose to her. I sneak into my house as a surprise and she's having it off with another man. Now I have a ring that I can only return in France. FML

Today, I went to a jeweler's to buy a ring to propose to my girlfriend. When I was at the restaurant, in mid-proposal, with people watching, I realized I had left the ring in the store. FML

Today, I got home early from work at 2am to find my girlfriend of 5 years missing. Upon further inspection, I caught the "other man" dropping her off out front. So much for the engagement ring I bought for her. FML

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend while we were on my couch having a romantic moment. She seemed incredibly excited when she saw the ring and put it on. The way she bolted out the door tells me I'm not going to see her again. FML

Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML

Today, I'm living with my now ex-girlfriend of 9 years in the house we bought together. What's worse than that is the fact that 2 weeks before she told me she was unhappy and ended it, I had bought an engagement ring. I didn't get the chance to ask, and had to return the ring. FML

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. When she saw the ring, she got so excited that she ran to kiss me and it flew out of my hand, over the balcony of our suite, and fell roughly 45 stories straight down. I could feel my wallet screaming as a £4000 diamond vanished into the night. FML

Just because a couple dates for 2 years, doesn't mean they only met 2 years ago. They could have been friends for a couple years before that, therefore making the 2 year dating a good amount of time before getting engaged. But seeing as how we really DONT know the situation, I dont see how the YDI is relevant. Also, people can cheat no matter how long they've been dating. Just because he didnt wait an extra year or two doesn't mean that she wouldn't cheat on him.....

2 years is too short??? My parents dated for 2 MONTHS before they got engaged... 17 years later, and they couldn't love each other more.

Your parents are lucky, then. That's not how most relationships go. Granted, getting engaged is due to circumstance, but can you honestly say that EVERYONE should get engaged after 2 years of dating, let alone 2 months?
