Yeah, Mike
Today, I finally put the finishing touches to a huge project after 8 months of gruelling work. My boss had used the promise of a 5-figure bonus to motivate me. When I casually brought the bonus up later in the day, my boss just said, "Gratitude's its own reward, Mike." FML

You must have been a force nature on the playground.

In Writing or an email at all? Ask for a raise or promotion at your job if another talk with him is pushed aside like that. Discuss how you love your job, but being lied to to take on projects no one else will is demeaning to your work. Discuss with HR. Start documenting everything, (Sadly, start 8 months ago). Good Luck.

You probably should have gotten it in writing. But that was a serious jerk move on his part.

Never trust a promise unless it's in writing.

Go over his head and get what you were promised. I had to do that once when an old manager promised me a promotion and then told me I wasn't getting it after doing everything she asked.

Any chance the boss is just playing it cool? He might not have been expecting you to raise the question about the bonus, so was unprepared. Does he seem the type to slip it into your wage packet without a big hoo-hah?

Gratitude doesn't put food on the table.

This wouldn't happen if you were Mike Lowery!
