Today, while video chatting with my girlfriend, who lives on the other side of the country, I thought I'd play a song for her on my guitar. The string broke and hit me in the face. I burst into tears and had to hang up. FML

Today, after practicing a song for my girlfriend on guitar all day, I called her over to my house to show it to her. After a long speech about how "this is for you," I played for about 3 seconds before I broke a string, which slapped her in her face. FML
Today, whilst tuning my guitar, one of the steel strings snapped and hit me in the face. Now I'm on my way to my first date with the girl of my dreams, and I'm wearing an eye patch and have a thick red line across my face. FML
Today, I was on webcam for the first time with a guy I've been texting for a while. Trying to show off my guitar skills, I lean down to pick it up and fell on my face. FML
Today, while tuning my bass guitar, I noticed a very strange screeching sound. I leaned over to look behind the neck. The biggest string snapped off and cut the side of my face. FML
Today, I was walking down the street with my acoustic guitar on my back. I saw a girl that I like coming down the opposite way, so I decided to play my guitar to try and impress her. I started to tune it quickly, but while I wasn't paying attention, I ran into a pole. Now my guitar is cracked. FML
Today, I was lying on the sofa when the phone rang. I jumped up to answer in time. I knocked over my laptop, and kicked my guitar into a glass causing it to smash. It was a wrong number. FML
Today, while I was singing a song with my guitar at a college open mic, my eyes started to burn, causing me to tear up and stop playing. Everyone in the audience thought I'd actually started to cry mid-performance. I ended up having to leave the stage teary-eyed and embarrassed myself in front of everyone. FML
Today, I had a video call with a couple of old friends, but the conversation sort of got boring, so I started mouthing words so they'd think the connection was bad and end the awkwardness. Then, as soon as they hung up the call, I realized I'd left my music on in the background the whole time. FML
Today, I forgot to tune my guitar pre-performance. Surprising, because it was in tune when I frantically did it by ear backstage. Too bad two of the six strings snapped, smacking the drummer in the face. FML
Today, my girlfriend and her mother bought a hanger for my $2000 guitar as a birthday present. They wanted to surprise me by hanging it on the wall. They screwed it upside down, so before I came home it fell off and my guitar broke. FML

I've had a couple of close calls, but never hit in the face or eyes, thankfully. I'm always shit scared that that is going to happen, though, and I piss myself every time a string brakes. That sucks for you guys.

It's not as bad though, as a guy I once met who had impaled his hand on the tremolo bar of his guitar by doing a windmill strumming technique... Messy.

1, I guy in my music class a few years ago broke the top bass string, it gave him a pretty bad cut and bruises like someone hit him with a frying pan. I've been hit with guitar strings a few times and its just a mini whip that stings for a second haha

37, try classical gas. When you can play it without your fingers hurting, you got calluses. I still find it hard to play the entire song without twitching haha.

51, I'm learning Classical Gas still, that shit is hard, but it's getting to be more than 3/4 getting though it haha. If you don't know but most likely do, try ultimate guitar's site. It's really good.

As someone who's played guitar since he was ten, I feel your pain OP. Although it must have been an extreme stroke of misfortune to have hit your face; mine usually hit my arms. Usually I stab myself with the strings, more than anything else >.>

29, ouch that must have hurt :/ the string the breaks the most on mine is the 1E string, scares the crap outa me when it happens, only once has it hit me in the arm. Not to mention hearing all the strings twang when you first string them.

#4, I know! I was just laughing about this with my 18-year-old girlfriend who's a neurosurgeon with double-D's and practices on a CIA base in Idaho. She makes good money, but always hit me up for loans which she'll repay when we get married. She's never see a picture of me, she just knows she loves me.
