Today, while trying to hold the door open on an elevator, I managed to drop something down the elevator shaft. I'm blind, and the something was my white cane. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Butter fingers
Today, I was walking into work holding a coffee and a bunch of other things. My employee saw me and held the door. I was almost there when I dropped my coffee, tried to catch it, tripped over the curb and fell flat on my face. I heard the door close while still lying there. FML
Whoops
Today, I attempted to be nice and hold a door open for a person in a wheelchair. He hit the button to open another door. While I pointed out that I would hold the door for him, I realized that the door I was holding open for him led down some stairs. FML
Today, my building's elevators were temporarily out of service. I climbed up 17 flights of stairs only to realize I left my keys downstairs. After the painful climb back up, the elevator lights came on. FML
Today, while at the mall, I was traveling up the escalator on my way to the food court. When I neared the top, the handrail severely shocked me, causing me to drop a bag of China I had just bought, which fell to the bottom of the escalator and shattered. FML
Today, with a single misstep, I managed to send myself and several others tumbling down a stairwell at work. An ambulance ended up having to be called for one lady. FML
You may be entitled to compensation…
Today, I was working when a forklift came speeding out a trailer without honking. I jumped out the way, only to trip over something and fall out the dock door. FML
Careful
Today, I was walking up some stairs, and I told the guy in front of me to be careful, as the handrail was loose and well-worn. I then put my hand on it, and promptly fell backwards down the stairs with a piece of handrail still in my hand. FML
Bad day for glasses
Today, I walked into the glass door of my boss’s cabin and broke my spectacles. Thank god for a backup pair, right? Wrong. I fell down the stairs and broke them too. FML
Today, I shut my finger in the car door. The door locked. Then I dropped the keys on the ground and couldn't reach them. FML
Keep moving
Today, as I was stood on an escalator, my shoelace got caught in the step. Panicking, I tried to pull it out, but my shoe came off. I had to awkwardly hop back down the escalator to retrieve it while everyone around me in the mall watched. FML

How did you type that?

Surely it would be dangerous if there's a big enough gap between the elevator and the floor of the hallway for a cane to fit through it?

If they’re using an iPhone they can use dictation to speak into the microphone and it types out everything for you.

He probably has assistive settings so that he can verbally open apps, speak to text and hear text. Most smart phones have those options now.

ARE YOU ******* SERIOUS, YOU RETARD?!?! JUST BC OP IS BLIND, DOESN’T MEAN S/HE CAN’T TYPE AT A KEYBOARD OR ON AN IPHONE! I suppose you think that highly functioning autistics can’t do those things, either! IDIOT!

You shouldn’t have to explain to ignorant people.

On second thought, just saying "First" would have been the better option...

No need to panic or to flip out. There are a lot of people in the world who haven’t met a blunt person and don’t know how they do anything. It’s ignorance but thankfully that can be educated. The question is valid and deserves a decent response. The other commenter asking the question…

Canes for blind people are long and thin, not like a regular walking cane- they are not weight baring.
raven_of_azarath 35
Blind assist canes are thinner than a cell phone, and the gap is definitely big enough for one of those to fall through.

Probably has an IPhone, with a functioning microphone, and assistance apps on.

Those asking "How did you type this?" There's something called friends and family (also voice dictation).

Aside from voice dictation, and more important, there is voiceover. It’s a text to speech software that reads the screen. You have to know what’s on the screen in order to find the dictation button in order to use the speech to text feature. There is Siri, but I doubt Siri will post an FML for you.

How can people say YDI, being blind would be incredibly difficult and dropping what you’d consider your life line would be really stressful.., some people are just assholes

If you are blind how do you know the cane was white? Do you try to decorate it to look like a candy cane for Christmas? If you do, how do you know you really bought red????

You should see things are not looking good for you. Eye observe this is not a good sight for getting sympathy or helpful tips — just high brow comments we should just keep a lid on.
