Today, while I was on a date, I noticed my ex-boyfriend in the restaurant, and he looked sad. So I walked over to see him and jokingly said, "You look like your mom died or something!" She had. FML

Today, I went on a fabulous date with a really cute, smart, funny guy. He only mentioned his dad, so when I asked about his mom, I asked if they were divorced. She'd died of breast cancer so I felt awful. Then I asked if his dad had ever remarried. His stepmom had died of cancer too. FML
Today, I went out on a date with an ex-boyfriend who I hadn't seen since college. He took me to a bar, where he was oddly quiet, but drank heavily. When the bartender asked us if we were ok, he replied, "This is my ex-girlfriend. Can you believe she used to be skinny?" FML
Today, I went on a first date with a guy I really like. He brought up that there was a person staring at us from a nearby table. That person was my mom. FML
Today, my mother met my boyfriend. She thought it would be appropriate to tell him that he looks just like my ex-husband. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. His mom stared at me throughout dinner before finally blurting out, "I'm sorry, I can't get past the fact that you look just like his ex!" It turns out I do. FML
Today, I was eating lunch on my first date with a really pretty girl, when my ex shows up at the same restaurant and starts telling her how bad of a boyfriend I was. My date left. FML
Today, I saw my friend's ex and noticed she had gained a ton of weight since he dated her and had been dating someone else. It reminded me of my friend, so I messaged him and made a joke about her being unrecognizable. He informed me that they started seeing each other again last week. FML
Today, I went on my first date since my husband passed six years ago. My date’s ex-wife happened to be at the restaurant he picked, and he confessed he expected her to be there. Without missing a beat, I told him that’s a perk of dating a widow, never running into the ex. Evidently a bit too dark for him. FML
Today, my boyfriend dumped me. I tried to hide my sadness from my mom. She still noticed, and tried to cheer me up. She took me to a funeral. FML

My mate once came into a crowded room and asked 'who died?', thnking we'd all just been told off. It was a guy in the year above. FYL OP- this is the kind of thing you could never know, and will presumably never do again in the future.

Obviously people will say things without thinking and it takes some practice to learn how to hold back from having diarrhea of the mouth, but it is possible. It's just like walking up to a woman you assume is pregnant and asking, "how far along are you?" It can potentially be very hurtful. OP, I stick to my initial comment, "Think before you speak."

lol this is sort of similar to what happened to me w. MJ. I asked my cousins if he was dead cause I just didn't know and it turned out that he dies that day a few hours before I asked. lol I thought this was sort of different than asking a woman "how far along are you" cause like she didn't assume anything she just sort of tried to find out why he was sad jokingly by maybe saying the first reason of why someone would be sad that came to her mind......but she should've said something like " why do you look all sad and/or depressed?" instead of what she said..
