Not only did I have to chase her when she ran after a stranger on the road, I turned my back for 5 seconds to do my actual job and she walked off. When my boss returned, I had to tell her I lost her mother. FML

Today, I took a day off from work for a doctor's appointment. It ended up taking a lot longer than I expected, because while I was on my way, my mom called to inform me that my great aunt passed away this morning. As a result, I showed up extremely late and was berated. And the worst part? It's my birthday. FML

I like how everyone assumes the OP is a shallow/heartless/sick bastard. Sure, OP could show more compassion for the old lady and her family, but it's perfectly reasonable to expect to get paid. He/she is just venting about doing all that work and ending up with nothing to show for it. Relax, people. :/
