Today, on my way to work I stopped at a winery and spent around $120 on 2 bottles of wine for my boss, since it was his birthday. When I gave him the gift, in exchange he let me know I am being laid off - his consolation was "if you can afford this wine I'm sure you'll be OK". FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, at the winery, my boss proudly made a spectacle of the new, high quality bottles. After over a year of employment without breaking a bottle, I shattered three before lunch. FML
Today, my bosses were boasting about their work-funded retreat, including the $1,800 bottle of wine the company paid for. This would be fine if they hadn't just told me there are no funds to pay me for the work they've got me doing. We are also the biggest company in our industry. FML
Today, a man tried to rob the winery I worked at by knife-point. I managed to scare him off by throwing a bottle of wine at him. My boss fired me because I broke a $25 bottle of wine. FML
Helpful
Today, my rather large boss told me how the company needs to save money, how we are going downhill fast, even suggesting that we might go bankrupt very soon. He then went on to ask me to go get him some very expensive scotch using the company credit card to, "help him cope with the stress." FML
What?
Today, my coworker got a raise by making our boss give me a pay cut for doing his job while he was slacking off. As we were heading home for the day, he found $100. FML
Sir Alan Sugar has spoken
Today, I got married and I'd invited everyone from work including my boss. His way of congratulating me was to mention that I'm out of a job. He said it was a good time to do it because he thought I would be too happy or too drunk to care. FML
Today, while making a grand show of his generosity, my boss gave me my own commissions as a wedding gift. FML
Today, my boss got a promotion and I got laid off. FML
Today, after three weeks of my boss telling me how much he appreciates my hard work and has submitted my name up for a promotion, he called me into his office to announce I'm being laid off. FML
Today, I gave my boss a gift card as a late birthday present, since I wasn't in the office on his actual birthday. He accused me of trying to bribe my way to a promotion, and suspended me on the spot. FML

Should have taken them back and told him.. "I just got fired, I think I'll need these more than you."

It's not his fault. They got LAID OFF. Not exactly the same as getting fired. Maybe the business wasn't doing well.

Op, it may have not been your boss's fault. It could have came from higher up in the company, and he was the one who got stuck having to tell you.

Agreed, never spend a ton of money on someone that can fire you, dump you or leave you in any way. That's why hallmark makes CARDS

"dump you or leave you in any way?" i think it would've been a bit different if it had been a girlfriend. as it was, though, it was really pretty inappropriate to give your boss such an expensive gift in the first place. why would you spend so much on a boss?

YDI for trying to poison your boss with alcohol.

Exactly my thoughts. He's no longer your boss so you have no obligation. And if he was even your friend he wouldn't have done it like that or at all probably.

um, liquor stores around here have a no-return policy

Yea but he should have taken it back and drowned himself in it while mourning his loss.

Ouch. I recently had a piece of jewelery specially made with beads made out of the mother and babies birth stones, and a photo engraved pendant of them together for a client of mine who had hired me for a lot of work and who'd just had a baby. I gave it to her the next time we met to discuss work, and she said couldn't afford to pay me anymore after I'd set aside a month with no other work to do her project. At least she had the decency to look embarrassed though. I think it's best just not to buy anyone who's paying you a gift.
