Today, my roommate gave me a self-help book on alcoholism for my birthday. He's an alcoholic. I gave him that book around 8 months ago. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that the neighbor I'd given a bottle of wine to for Christmas is a recovering alcoholic. FML
The wagon
Today, after much coaxing, I finally got my roommate to loosen up and have a couple of beers with me and my friends. It was only later in the evening that he admitted the real reason he hadn't wanted to drink: he's an alcoholic and had been sober for six months, until now. FML
Today, my mother-in-law gave me a bottle of champagne for my birthday. This is the third year in a row she has done this. I'm a recovering alcoholic, and she's well aware of that fact. FML
Today, as a recovering alcoholic, I called my brother to share the news that I've been sober for a month. He invited me to a bar to celebrate. FML
Today, I found out that just because my roommate doesn't buy alcohol, it doesn't mean she isn't stealing mine and slowly replacing it with water. That bottle cost me $150 and was destined to be a present for my best friend, whom I haven't seen in years. FML
Milestone
Today, my uncle gave me a very expensive bottle of champagne at a celebratory family event. We were celebrating me spending one year sober. FML
Cheers
Today, for my birthday, my friend bought me a book on how to lose weight. FML
Slippery slope
Today, my mom celebrated a year's sobriety by having a couple of beers with her boyfriend. FML
Today, my wife of 10 years bought me a bottle of wine, a wine rack, and a wine accessory kit for my birthday. She knows I don't like wine. FML
You or the both of you?
Today, I celebrated my friend's 5-month sobriety milestone with her by getting absolutely wasted. FML

people need to chill. He didn't actually say he got his roommate this for his roommate's birthday. it is kind of assumed, but still, read it through. He might of just been trying to help his friend. your getting mad at a guy, that you don't know, for giving a shit ? think it through.

I agree. But on the other hand, it's a nice gesture, it shows OP was worried about his roomate. But OP, are you guys friends? Beyond being roommates? If not, it's kind of rude and random to give that kind of a gift.

Your roommate was probably pretty offended from that gift and wanted to make you feel like shit, too. For all we know he may not even be an alcoholic and you might just be a square! If he can't work or go to school or function and drinks from the time he wakes up and gets angry and breaks stuff...etc...a book isn't going to help anyway.

hey, i think it's funny. your roomie doesn't seem super-offended, and he just took re-gifting to a new level. be happy it wasn't the 20 year old fruitcake that's still being passed around because no one wants to eat it.

Kay. Stop assuming he gave it as a birthday gift; it doesnt say that. Although I dont think the would read the book, I really think the OP's intentions were good and he was just trying to help. Also, If you are actually an alcoholic, this isnt really an FML lol. And maybe he read the book and it helped. If he was still an alcoholic he would have bought yu two bottles of Goose..thats geese lls. =)

"Today, my roommate gave me a self-help book on alcoholism for my birthday. He's an alcoholic. I gave him that book around 8 months ago. FML" Key words being "for my birthday". Don't comment on an FML unless you actually read it!

Correction, UNLESS yu are an alcoholice this isnt an FML.

he was probably too drunk to realize that.

If he didn't ask you for the book originally, YDI, meddlesome person. This is his way to get back to you.
