Today, my rental car had an automatic rear hatch. That sounded helpful until I used it and it emptied $60 in just-purchased groceries for the week on the parking lot pavement. The jars and jugs weren't ready for the leap. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
New fangled car technology
Today, I have a RAV4 with a power hatch that randomly opens when the key is in my pocket, and it has trashed my garage door. Good news: I can stop paying for garage door repairs by paying to convert the hatch to manual instead. Oh, and I was supposed to move a bunch of stuff out of storage tomorrow. FML
Today, my car's parking gear and parking brake failed. I watched as it rolled down a big hill into someone's 2017, $30,000 camper. FML
Today, I got a rental car because my car needed new tires and I had a long drive ahead of me. Today, the rental car got a flat tire. FML
Today, I rented a car that has a smart key. The proximity of the key determines if the doors will unlock. I went to a meeting and returned to the car with the trunk popped open and all my luggage gone. The rental company decided to store a spare key in the glovebox for safekeeping. FML
Today, I was loading a very large box into my hatchback. I was really struggling, and a few people walked by and laughed. Then a car pulled up and waited for the spot. There isn't a spring to hold my trunk open, so it slammed onto my head. Twice. The car honked for me to hurry up. FML
Unforgettable
Today, I bought a fancy reusable water bottle because I wanted to stop buying plastic ones. On the first day, I left it on the roof of my car while loading groceries. I remembered it when I heard a loud clunk at the next intersection. FML
Bad call
Today, I tried to carry all my grocery bags in one trip. I was doing great until the plastic handles stretched and snapped in the parking lot. A carton of eggs exploded, an avocado rolled under a car, and a bottle of wine shattered. Someone asked if I needed help. I said no because I was too embarrassed. FML
Overconfident
Today, I tried carrying all my groceries inside in one trip. I succeeded, but also succeeded in tearing the handles, dropping everything, and rolling a can of soup straight under my neighbor’s car. Never trust cheap tote bags. FML
Today, I took a trip to Wal-Mart. There's a car wash that they conveniently built right outside of this Wal-Mart. So as I was leaving, I decided to make use of this car wash, not even thinking about the $200 worth of groceries I had just purchased. I drive a pick-up truck. FML
Trashed
Today, my car alarm went off so I went outside to investigate. Apparently, the abundant rain water in my street had swept a trash can five houses down, only to be stopped by my car. My bumper was dented by a run-away waste receptacle. FML

I'm impressed too. I spend from 70 to 110 in a week just for meals and that's just for myself. That is some wonderful spending and budget friendly skill OP.

Sounds like maybe only $60 worth of groceries were the items that didn't survive. Doesn't mean everything fell out and was destroyed?

first world problems.

It's not that hard to only spend $60 a week. I do my grocery shopping fortnightly for 2 adults and a toddler and that's only $100 a fortnight so $50 a week. Food isn't expensive if you shop at the right places.

You people must be rich. There have been weeks where bills are tight that i have spent a little as 10-15 bucks on groceries for the week. ham sandwiches and roman noodles. Quit buying junk food and find things on sale. Its easy to budget.

#28 Ramen Noodles are the best.

Sixty bucks a week is a lot for one person. When I'm home alone in the winters, I tend to spend about a hondo a month at the costco for bulk and frozen, then top up with twenty or twenty-five a week in fresh goods like milks and eggs and breads and fresh veg. And I'm about as close to the end of the food supply chain as you can get in North America without actually going to the far north.

It's not really the junk food it's the healthy food now a days it's expensive for healthier eating
Zebediabolical 45
The healthy food is pretty close to free if you're willing to put in fifteen minutes per day taking care of it. Yes. Even in winter. Yes. Even inside. The investment in a grow bulb and a shitty old swingarm lamp (if you don't already have one laying around unused) is pretty negligible, and the seeds are pretty close to free if you order online. The whole simple setup will pay for itself inside of two months. Two months of deliciously crisp fresh greens and sprouts.

my family runs on $150-$200 per month. there's two people including me. not much has changed since my bro left. so yeah how do you guys spend that much?

My parents try to save but only buy healthy foods. We spend around $100 a week on groceries, which is ok I guess, for 2 teenagers and 2 adults.

Sounds like something you'll need to hatch out.

That was bad and you should feel bad

I always wondered how well automatic doors and hatches latched. I guess not very well!!! FYL indeed
onlychildFTW 34
They work very well. The problem OP had was they opened the trunk and the groceries were leaning on the hatch. So they fell out. Even if OP had opened it manually they would have still fallen, although they would have probably caught some.

Hopefully some stuff survived the fall, and if not, at least it wasn't sever hundred dollars worth of groceries.

$60 is too much money.

I guess it's ramen noodles again for dinner. Sorry OP

I fail to see how the hatch being automatic caused this.

Agreed. We need a follow up!
