Today, my parents have deliberately ruined my last 2 relationships, because they want me to get back together with my ex simply because he is my son's dad. Apparently, my son needs his father more than I need a man who won't beat me every time he gets drunk. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
But she's so wonderful…
Today, my parents are so in love with my ex, they still think it’s my fault she felt unloved enough to cheat with another man. They constantly try to convince me to take her back and become stepdad to the child she conceived with the guy she cheated on me with. FML
All you need is hate
Today, I told both my boyfriend and my son that they needed to start spending more time together. They both asked why and what they did that I feel the need to punish them. They’re so similar, even I forget they’re not father and son, and yet for some reason they hate each other. FML
This is fine
Today, I found out that my father, who very recently lost his wife, decided that drunkenly hitting on my long-time boyfriend's mom was a good idea. FML
Pure evil
Today, my son got in an argument with my boyfriend, packed up his stuff, and moved in with his dad. Not five minutes later I saw my boyfriend doing his stupid happy dance. When angrily confronted, he admitted he orchestrated every argument for months until he got the result he wanted, my son gone. FML
Today, I finally got a restraining order against my violent ex. My mom now keeps finding ways to tell me how shitty I am for breaking the "poor boy's" heart and how I didn't deserve him anyway. FML
I'm too old for this
Today, my parents lectured me about how my girlfriend will ruin my life, because she's a single mom, a recovering alcoholic, and has chronic health issues. Apparently, I should be with their friend's rude, trashy daughter, who can't keep a job, and goes on a drunken, drug-fueled bender every other week. I'm 31. FML
Today, I found out that after reuniting with an old boyfriend, getting close with his two year old son, and moving closer to him to properly be a part of their lives, he got back together with his ex-wife. FML
Today, I found out that my mother has been purposely wrecking every relationship I've had since junior high because ''no one is good enough for her little girl''. FML
Today, I decided to visit my dad. I haven't seen him in a while so I wanted to give him another chance to be an actual dad to me. Apparently, getting drunk and getting it on with his girlfriend while I was there was more important than spending time with his daughter, who he hasn't seen in almost a year. FML
Thanks for sharing your inspiring story, Dad
Today, my dad told me quite bluntly that, while he loved me, he never planned to have me. My mom baby-trapped him by sabotaging their birth control methods, and my existence ruined his life irrevocably and caused the functional alcoholism he has suffered with for 40 years. FML

You're doing the right thing for both you and your son, OP! Stay strong, hopefully your parents will eventually give up, or you will find a relationship that they finally can't ruin!

Keep the relationships on the DL if you can so that you can give your son a better example of what it is to be a man. It takes barely anything to be a 'father' but it takes a lot to be a Dad.

My father was an abusive asshole who should've been dumped by my mom long ago, but she stayed with him 'for the kids'. Don't let your parents push you around, put your foot down and stand firm, the right guy will come along. :)

Sounds like it's time to kick your parents out of your life as well…

I'd have a chat with your parents. Sorry that you have a sh**bag of a ex. I am happy to hear that you are trying to raise your son the right way. Keep your head up.

I really hope you sit down and have a talk with your parents about why you'll never go back to him. They shouldn't force you to be with a scumbag like that for your kid's sake.

Honestly, if my parents wanted me with an abusive man, I wouldn't want them around me or my kid. And do they really want their grandson to grow up watching his mum get beaten up? What kind of person would he learn to be? I read a great saying the other day: 'you don't need to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.' Might be time to tell your folks to put their matches away.

Don't introduce the guy to your parents next time! If they want you with some prick who beats you, they don't have any right to be involved in your love life or your own. Do what's best for you and your kid and find someone good for you and your son.

Move away. Move far away.

Op this may be hard to hear but your kid doesn't need a father that beats you and may beat him and he certainly doesn't need grandparents that will try to shift his mothers decisive authority away from her. If this goes on any longer you will need to distance yourself from your parents.

Your son has a father. He doesn't have a dad. There's a difference. Get a relationship and keep it hidden from your family. You deserve happiness, too, OP.

tell your parents that you want your son to have a mother
