Today, my parents forced me to write a thank you letter to my uncle who passed away a week after Christmas. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I sent a christmas card to my husband's uncle and aunt. I'd forgotten that the uncle died last year. FML
Today, I found out that when my uncle died, he left me and the rest of my family £2000 each. Only my parents kept and spent my share on themselves. FML
What an asshole
Today, after I found out my uncle took me off my grandma's funeral program, I had to fight to speak. He spent the week taking out his jealousy and anger on me and my sister for being included in her funeral. To everyone else he's played the saint, and the whole family has no idea. FML
Today, my uncle died. It was also my grandpa's 85th birthday. His reaction to the death? "Best birthday gift ever!" FML
Breaking!
Today, I sent an email to my professor requesting an extension for my assignment, using the tired old excuse that my "grandmother died." Instead, I sent it to my grandmother, who then called my dad on my family's landline in tears. FML
Today, I was going to record a song I wrote for my dad, who I haven't spoke to in a couple of years. After getting things together, I called my mom to let her know I'd be doing this. She informed me he died. A year ago. FML
Vacation blues
Today, I set aside an entire week off to watch my parents' house while they went on vacation. I'd only just got here and they'd barely left when the hospital called. My drunk uncle died from a concussion, so my parents cancelled everything. I feel bad for my aunt, but my boss knows where I live, and my dad's an ass. I'm trapped. FML
Today, my 5-year-old daughter was asked by her teacher to write a letter to each member of her family to read during the holidays. Her letter to me said, "Dear mommy, come on. You could have done better than dad." FML
Big hugger
Today, my grandpa took the family out for dinner and paid for everyone. He paid the bill and my family and I were waiting by the door. I realised I probably should thank him for dinner. I turned around without thinking and give him a big hug, and said, "Thanks for dinner Grandpa." It wasn't my grandpa. FML
Today, my grandpa sent me a letter apologizing for not congratulating me about my graduation last spring. Too bad I don't graduate until May. FML

Maybe they thought it would help you in some way, but they shouldn't have forced you.

Did they think you were rude to him before he died and that this would help you or something? It sounds like they probably had some weird way of thinking this would be helpful/therapeutic for you, but it's still awkward and weird to be forced to do that. Writing letters to people that have died (or letters that you'll never actually send to a living person) can actually be therapeutic and helpful, but being forced to do it when it's not something you want to do kind of defeats the purpose.

"Dear Uncle, thank you for dying before Christmas."

51 weeks before Christmas. Try reading again.

Hey #8...isn't NOW 51 weeks before Christmas???
squizzlebee 19
#14 ...no. No it isn't.

#14 I don't know when you celebrate Christmas, but where I come from it sure isn't 51 weeks from now. Besides, my convent was aimed at #6 who said he died before Christmas when op says he passed away a week after...

18- It's not very nice to aim convents at people. Think of all of the nuns that could be killed from convent aiming!

**** that. Everyone grieves in their own way. You can't force someone to grieve how you think 'they should'

Exactly. I don't know how old OP is but I'm gonna guess old enough to process the situation on their own.

Well I'm so sorry for your loss..... But maybe you could put it on his grave? Unless he's been cremated......
