Today, my mom told me that I'll never get married if my cooking skills don't improve. My boyfriend agrees. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Free labor
Today, I finally accepted my mom will never be a good person, and I'm looking forward to her dying. Apparently, she'd been telling everyone I was a difficult child. I was cooking dinner for her and her boyfriends way back in elementary school. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. Being a chef of a highly-rated restaurant, I cooked a well-liked dish. Not only did she say no, but commented on how bland and tasteless the meal was. FML
Today, I was informed that my boyfriend's mother would be joining us on our Valentine's dinner. I'm not sure if this momma's boy thing is going to work out. FML
Mom knows best
Today, my mom once again told me that I'm too young and immature to get married, and that I don't know what love is. I'm 29, have a successful career, own my own home, and am financially stable. FML
Make it yourself, champ
Today, I overheard my boyfriend complaining that I’m lazy since I never cook for him. I stopped cooking for him because he constantly complained that the food was never as good as what his ex-wife made, or like his mom made. FML
Shut up
Today, my boyfriend's mother who lives with us decided that since I work from home, it would be a good idea for her to stay home and keep me company. "Keeping me company" includes ordering me to make her food, gossiping non stop, and ridiculing me for not being the woman that she always saw her son marrying. FML
Fear of mash
Today, my mother insists that because I won’t eat my dad’s mashed potatoes, it means I must think he is a bad cook and that I'm a disrespectful little prick. I wouldn’t touch mashed potatoes even if Gordon Ramsay made them, and I was on the brink of starvation. FML
Chilling
Today, my boyfriend's mother told me she had fantasies about throwing him out a window when he was a baby because she was so depressed and couldn't handle the stress. The worst part is he wants to get married. She'd be my mother-in-law. FML
Today, my mom told me that she doesn't want me to help any of my friends get a job at the restaurant I work at. Apparently, she thinks that they would do a better job than me and get me fired. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents. Later on, his mom pulls me aside and tells me to back off, saying he will never marry someone like me and he should be with a nice girl like his ex. They broke up after he found her in his bed with his roomate. FML

That is so sexist. If you want to learn how to cook then learn but if you're not interested then that's fine too. I took cooking classes before going to college since I refused to live off ramen. It's good skills to have but doesn't mean you need to use them every day. Married now and I cook few times per week and take turns with my husband making meals.

Well I see two people you could probably chop out of your life. Spa-ghett out of there.

That's not true though. My dad is actually the main cook in the family, not my mom. Not only is that sexist but it's hurtful because it makes OP feel worthless.

That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. My mother used to tell me I need to start learning how to cook for my future family (while she was never the one to cook for us, my dad was). She was often condescending about it as well. Not very fun to grow up hearing that. I now live on my own and I think anyone can cook, as long as you can follow directions and buy the right ingredients :) I love Pinterest recipes.

She shouldn't have said that because I'm sure you will, but not everyone likes to constantly eat out or be the only one to cook dinner. Try some fun cooking class in your spare time!

Just chiming in that if cooking was something the mother thought was a character asset for her daughter, she should have taught her herself! As soon as I was sentient my mom often had me in the kitchen with her, she demanded I help her. And though she never outright taught me per se, I watched her for years. I could cook things like breadcrumb chicken and from-scratch crepes when I was twelve. Not only was it sweet mother-daughter bonding, I had some sweet bolognaise, baked salmon, and spicy-soup-for-colds skills going into college.

Dump the bf for being a sexist douche and disown mom for promoting it.It's 2016 not the 1950s.

I still get told that even though my boyfriend is the one that cooks. Our agreement is, he'll do all the cooking as long as I clean up afterwards.
