Today, my mom sent me beautiful candlesticks along with some half burned candles. I thanked her. She told me the candlesticks were a wedding gift to my grandmother 85 years ago. Then she said the candles were used at my grandma's wedding. I had already lit them. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Thanks for the memories
Today, my mom lit a candle in our living room, telling the family how much she loved it. She then went on the tell us that my dad got it for her and it must have been some cheap candle. I bought the candle as a gift for her on her birthday. FML
Today, I dug out the 5 fancy, extremely expensive candles I bought during Black Friday. I lit one up, and was delighted that it smelled so great. My mother then walked into my room and stated that it smelled "like shit". The other four were going to be a Christmas gift for her. FML
Today, I was at my friend's house and accidentally blew out a candle that was supposed to be lit for seven days straight. It was in honor of her grandmother who had recently died. FML
Today, my mother-in-law gave me a toaster and a fork as a wedding gift. FML
Helicopter
Today, my mother scolded me for having a lighter in my room. My reason I had it? The candle that she bought me for my 25th birthday. I don't even live with her anymore, she showed up uninvited, and started going through my stuff. FML
Losing my mind
Today, my mom and I were talking about a wedding decoration that we are going to use at my wedding. I insisted that I gave the decorations to her and I didn’t bother looking in my house. She came over for the night and cleaned while I was at work. She found the decorations that I'd insisted that I'd given to her. FML
Today, I found a box of birthday candles sitting on the coffee table. Bored, I lit one, and after a minute I threw it away and sat back down on the couch. I started looking at the box and noticed that it said "Magic Re-Lighting Candles" at the exact moment that my trash can burst into flames. FML
They're all yours
Today, I was having a garage sale and my mother-in-law came by to see what I was selling. She decided to buy these ugly green wine glasses that were still unopened. It turns out that she gave those to my wife and me when we got married. FML
Today, my family was celebrating my grandma's 90th birthday. I pulled a little prank and got candles that keep relighting. After a few blows, my grandma fainted. FML
Today, I was supposed to light candles at my aunt's wedding. I accidentally lit the groom on fire. FML

Her fault for not telling you..

I don't think it's her moms fault. if my mom sent me 1/2 burned candles, I'd probably call to find out why.

I don't see how these candles could have such a sentimental value, after all OP doesn't even remember her grandma using them or something...anyway she still has the candlesticks.

Clearly the OP was at her grandmothers wedding 85 years ago. Reading comprehension is lost amongst the people who visit this website.

OP already lit them? Oh no! If only there were some way to extinguish a candle after it's been lit....but, sadly, as we all know, oxygen has absolutely no effect on whether or not fire will burn. Oh well!

That to me sounds like the best use of them. I would feel incredibly honored if I was given candles from my greatgrandparents wedding. It would be a wonderful way for them to be with us even though they are no longer with us.

Yeahhh. Personally, if I were going to take the sentimental route, I'd probably be like, "Omg I'm burning the same candles my grandma burned at her wedding... *happy tear*" But then maybe it's just people around here who do that "lighting a candle in someone's honor" thing...

I don't get why her gran never used the candles again. I would probably be happy to get a nice candlestick as a memoir, but the whole 'I bet my grandkids will love inheriting half-burned candles' scenarion just doesn't rub with me. Hey ho, personal tastes I suppose. I hope my mum never comes across this, cause I'm sure as hell going to sell the 'family books' (ie, priceless first editions of books noone in my family has been remotely interested in actually reading for at least three generations) when she dies.
