Today, my husband and I broke the news that I'm pregnant. Our 8-year-old son's reactions so far have been crying inconsolably, trying to punch me in the stomach, and swearing that he won't let me give him a brother or sister. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
The good son
Today, my husband and I sat our 8 year-old son down and gently explained to him that I had a miscarriage and he won't be having a little brother or sister after all. He responded by dancing around the room and celebrating. FML
Good news
Today, I told to my son that I'm pregnant. After I'd told him, he looked up and yelled, "Fuck this shit!" and walked out of the room. My son is nine years-old. FML
Bad timing?
Today, I found out that I'm pregnant. I buried my 8-year-old son two weeks ago and had my husband serve me divorce papers three days ago. FML
Today, on Maury…
Today, my husband of four years finally told me he has an eight-year-old son. FML
No refunds
Today, after my 4 year-old was so excited to be a big sister, hugging my belly every chance she got, counting down the days till the due date, my son was born this morning. She took one look at him and declared, “I don’t like him, leave him here, do we have to keep him?” then started crying. FML
Today, over a family dinner, my husband and I told everyone that I'm pregnant. My father frowned and said, "Again?", my 9-year-old daughter started crying, and her brother smirked and yelled, "Up the ass, no babies!" FML
Unexpected
Today, I excitedly told my husband that I'm expecting our second child. He ripped up the sonogram and yelled at me to "fucking get rid of it" while jabbing me in the chest. FML
Good news!
Today, I told my family I’m pregnant again. My boyfriend is now sat outside, crying and getting drunk. My oldest son is looking at apartments for rent because he doesn’t want to be around screaming babies again, and my younger two are crying because they don’t want another sibling either. FML
Today, we told my fiancé's parents that I'm pregnant. His mom's response? "I'm going to throw up. You can't raise a child." We are both 28, self-sufficient and everyone else is thrilled. FML

Today, my husband and I had a huge fight. I have a son from a previous relationship who he loves, but he wants more kids. My son is 9, almost 10, he's so used to being my baby that I can't bring myself to take that from him by having another baby. FML

My sister was very upset when we found out we were getting a younger sister too. It'll get better when he realizes you won't abandon him for the new kid.

Wow. I really hope you're not letting him off lightly for trying to punch you in the stomach, that's scary.

Whoa. I was 7 when my mom got pregnant with my sister and I was so excited. Hopefully he comes around. Maybe he needs to go talk to someone. Therapy wise.

Your husband needs to beat his ass and teach him it's not okay for boys to hit girls (especially his own mother). I also recommend trying to involve him in various pregnancy related things so he understands he's not going to be abandoned.

So, it's not okay for an 8-year-old boy to hit his mother, but it's okay for the father to hit his 8-year-old son? What the **** is wrong with you?

#62- it's called discipline... believe it or not, 9 times out of 10 spankings actually work and the kid no longer does what they did to get spanked in the first place

but its okay for girls to hit boys right?? lol. Although I do agree with you on punishing the child

I was an only child til I was 7- my parents never said THEY were having a new baby but that I was getting a sister. They acted (towards me) like I was getting a new toy so after months of anticipation I was pretty thrilled when she was born. I got to hold her and feed her; it was great. Involve him.

Of course he does. Who wants a sibling? Less money in the house, less attention, more stress. YDI

First of all Congrats :-) Second of all, hitting me anywhere on my body pregnant or not would never even be a tiny thought in my daughters head because she knows she would be knocked into next week ;-)

Seems like a normal reaction. Many kids feel threatened by a younger sibling that will initially be receiving almost 100% of the parents' attention (I mean, it's a baby, so of course it needs constant supervision and care). Once he comes to terms with the news I'm sure he'll be fine. I hope you punish him for punching you though - not by beating his ass like some of these other commenters are suggesting (WTF?) but just letting him know that violence is unacceptable behaviour.

That would be a normal reaction for a 3 year old. But if they're getting that violent and angry at 8, that's not normal. Being less than thrilled if they've been the only child up til that point is normal. But for his age, this is way too far

You are the parent. Explain that to him. And explain he will love his sibling and won't love him and less because of it

Awwww, congratulations!!!! And your son seems to have a normal reaction besides the punching (my mom would've gotten a belt and whipped me good if I ever tried that) but when I was 4 I was really excited to be having a younger sibling. 14 years later not so much.... But I bet that when he sees his sibling and when they're a little more grown and his sibling follows him and looks up to him, that he'll have a change of heart. :)
