Today, my father asked me to never contact him again. The reason? His "new" family doesn't know I exist and explaining that he has a 28 year-old daughter to his wife and his other children would be "awkward". I have siblings that I will never meet. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Take a chance on me
Today, my family keeps pestering me about whether I've contacted my father yet. My father, the one who treated me and my family like crap throughout my upbringing and cheated on my mom a few years ago. I don't know why they think I'd ever want to see him again. FML
Today, my dad asked me to stop calling him "dad" because it’s too weird for his girlfriend’s kids to hear, because they call him dad. FML
Step-nothing
Today, my dad's new wife, who is two years younger than me (I'm 24) and hates that I'm a lesbian, threw a fit when I told her that I would never call her Mom. My dad took her side. I don't live with them but still… FML
Happy family
Today, I happily introduced my stepfather to my friends as my dad. He told me, "Don't ever fucking call me that." FML
Quality family time
Today, my deadbeat dad threatened to press charges against me for harassment if I ever contact him again. I've contacted him twice in the last two years, once to tell him he was going to be a grandfather, and once to send him a birthday card from my son. FML
Today, my father called me to ask what my middle name is. He apparently needed to know it to remove me out from his will. FML
Do you deserve it, though?
Today, I tried to reconcile with my estranged father after learning that all the things my mom said were lies to turn me against him. He refused and told me that he has a new daughter and that I'm not part of the picture. I know I deserve it but… FML
We Are Family
Today, I met my paternal grandparents for the first time, since my dad was never in my life and my mom wouldn’t talk about him. According to them, I have at least 28 other siblings from him, and who knows how many that haven’t come forward. No wonder my mom always hated him. FML
Harsh
Today, my estranged father died. No one bothered to tell me, and the only reason I found out was because his wife texted my sister. When I asked about the service, I was told I was not welcome in the state he had lived in, because I was no longer family. FML
Today, I got the guts to call my dad for the first time in nine years. He said he "almost didn't remember" he "had another daughter." Another? FML

Tell him that he can't contact you either because it would be awkward explaining to your new dad.

this happened to me, my biological father ditched my mom when he found out she was pregnant. 18 years later when I was a freshman in college, my mom found him on facebook and started talking to him. he ended up saying that he wasn't really sure if he wanted to talk to me, since he didn't want his family to find out about me. he has 2 sons (my 2 half brothers) that i've never met and probably never will. for now I just haven't talked to him at all because I don't feel like dealing with him, but sometimes I think about how great it would be to blow his cover to his family...

Malinkrot, see my comment (#66). No reason it shouldn't work for you, too.

Let me get this straight... your dad is abandoning you... because he doesn't want to own up to his responsibilities as a father and adoptive father? FYL.

Truly horrible. I can scarcely imagine the pain you must be feeling. Ultimately, though, it's going to be his loss. Karma has a way of doing exactly the right thing in such circumstances. Please be kind and take the best possible care of yourself. Your father is an ass of the worst kind.

I am sorry at this sad story. My frank opinion is that he doesn't deserve you.

Your father asked you not to contact him, so if you do it could be considered harrassment. That said, he DID NOT tell you not to talk to his wife and children. You can talk to them all you want and if they want proof that you are his, show them a copy of your birth certificate. You're an adult, you ought to be able to do that no problem. There is no reason you shouldn't have a relationship with your half-siblings.

Make friends with his kids and make sure to ask them about their family life. When they gush about their wonderful father tell them that you envy them because your father is and asshole that won't have anything to do with you. Get yourself invited over for dinner. Might be a low way to handle it, but his other family deserves to know that he is a coward that will run and hide rather than stand up and do what is right.

If I were you, I'd wait until your "father" was at work, and then show up at his house, and introduce yourself to his new family. Then, leave before he gets home. Stay in touch with his new wife and kids, but don't talk to him. Explain it to them, telling them what he said, and that you want to respect his wished to not contact him again, but that there's no reason you can't get to know your step-mother and siblings.

I agree with everyone. Find one of the siblings or the wife and explain to them.
