Today, my eight-year-old microwaved our thermometer to see if the temperature would change. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my 8-year-old son microwaved his pet hamster. FML
Steamy pile of mess
Today, I put leftovers in the microwave and pressed what I thought was “1:00.” It was actually “10:00.” I got distracted, then realized at minute eight when the smell changed from “warm food” to “bad science experiment.” FML
Boom!
Today, while I was in the shower, my 4 year-old son wondered what would happen if he put 6 eggs in the microwave. FML
Today, my daughter asked me how long she had to put her 2-minute noodles in the microwave for. FML
Today, my daughter put a doll in the microwave "to keep her warm". She's 17. FML
Today, I left my daughter with a babysitter for the first time. When I came home, my microwave was ruined because they had attempted to heat cans of Play-Doh as a science experiment. FML
Today, my 5-year-old son put my car keys in the microwave thinking that they would 'warm up' my car. FML
Today, I wasn't feeling well, so I took my temperature with a thermometer from my sister's bathroom. I later found out that I actually used my sister's rectal thermometer. At least I don't have a fever. FML
Today, the family computer kept overheating. My four-year-old son thought the solution was to pour a nice, cold cup of water on it. FML
Today, I wasn't feeling too good, and took my temperature. I had a fever, which I told my boyfriend who was laughing hysterically when I told him. I asked him what was so funny, turns out he's been using the thermometer to take our dog's temperature sometimes. Rectally, of course. FML

I'd say it's a good scientific curiosity your child has.

He should probably be taught that microwave ovens literally use microwaves to heat food up and won't change the temperature of plastic or glass. I understood it when I was that age and if he is interested in science like it seems then he will listen.

Op, You should be happy you have a curious kid. You should find out what he or she is interested in and buy learning kits. Some advice from when I was a kid: purchase a tarp or similar material that can protect surfaces and tell them they can only take things apart on the tarp. My mother wasnt happy when i took things apart and stained the carpets. a large enough designated work area can save a few headaches and dollars.

well, you got a 60$ science lesson. use it to your advantage. look up exactly WHY the microwave and thermometer did what it did. GOOGLE IT! and now you can get a new microwave. it could have been worse. youll laugh at this later, op. i promise. and now youve got excellent blackmail

And the bad news? You can't teach curiosity. Give your child a means to continue growing that interest and you'll have a successful kid in the making :).

I hope it wasn't a mercury thermometer.

Curiosity killed no one. He's still better than those 18 years old.
