Today, my college class was talking about Felix Baumgartner, who jumped from the edge of space down to earth. A boy suddenly put his head up and said in a serious tone, "I thought he jumped from the moon?" Several girls concurred. This is my generation. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Stop staring!
Today, my 5-year-old told me that she'd learnt about gravity, then asked, “So when you fall down, is it because the Earth punched you?” I said yes, along with a giggle. Later at the supermarket, she tripped and screamed, “THE EARTH HIT ME AGAIN!” I was then reminded of high school when it felt like everyone was staring at me. FML
Today, while teaching my high school class about astronomy, I showed them a picture of earth from space. One girl raised her hand, and asked me what the "white things" were. In other words, clouds. FML
Today, in astronomy class, a kid used Uranus in a hilarious innuendo. I was the only one who laughed. I also happen to be the teacher. FML
Today, I got a call from my 8-year-old's 3rd grade teacher. Apparently a question went around class asking, "Why do you think you were put on this Earth?", and my son answered, "My dad says it's because I swam the fastest." FML
Today, my friend took me tandem skydiving. When it was time to jump, he began crying, said he'd cut our parachute cords, then said "Goodbye, cruel world!" and pushed me off the plane with him strapped to my back. I pissed myself and cried like a bitch. He thinks his "prank" was hilarious. FML
Shadowboxing
Today, my whole family was so excited about watching the Artemis II launch and scolded me for not mustering more enthusiasm. Great, we can go to space now… so anytime someone talks about real issues like climate change or racism, we'll hear, "Well just go to space then" or "Space will solve our problems." FML
Today, I found out I was 13th in a graduating class of about 350 students. When I told my mother, without batting an eye, she told me, "Hey, shit floats". FML
It's never like in the movies
Today, after giving a speech at college, I did the good ol' mic drop. The microphone fell with a loud bang that was heard through the clapping. FML
Today, a short guy asked me how the world looked "up there", as I'm really tall. I decided to lift him up so he could see for himself. I failed both times I tried, to the great amusement of everyone watching. FML
Today, while teaching juniors about black holes, I said, "Imagine everything being sucked into a black hole." An African-American student shouted, "I'd better start clenching!" Nobody took the lesson seriously after that. FML

It seems they don't understand the gravity of the situation.

if that was the case, screw jumping back to Earth. i don't want to live on this planet anymore anyway.

Absolutely correct. There are no idiots elsewhere in the world. There are only stereotyping, generalising twits like you. By the way, how did you find out this happened in America? Oh, do tell.

Wow the girls I can understand... But for a male to think he jumped from the moon.... Wow!
DocBastard 40
Alan, how the hell did you not moderate this? Unless you wanted to keep it up so everyone could bask in its rosy glow of sexism and stupidity...

When I talked to people about the jump, people were asking me to explain how he wouldn't burn up when he came back into the atmosphere. Apparently "freefall" can happen in the void called "space" too. And the stratosphere is the layer ABOVE the atmosphere. Oh, people are fun!

Honestly, that confuses me too. I think that question's understandable. Thinking you can fall off the moon and hit Earth... not so much.

... Free fall can happen in space, do you think that just because you are outside of the atmosphere gravity goes away? How would we get satellites to work if that wasn't the case? To be in orbit is to be in a constant state of free fall. And if they didn't realize he was in the stratosphere, and just though that he fell from the "edge of space" which could be interpreted as outside the atmosphere, than the second question is also valid.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that he didn't jump from the 'edge of space' either and that no such thing exists...

Well I have no idea who the heck that is, and seeing how they both sound impossible I'd have probably agreed with the kid as well!
