Today, my car got towed. My money is in my car and they won't let me open my car to get money until my car is "released". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Tow the line
Today, I paid $125 to get my car back after it was towed. Yesterday, I bought the car. When I got it to my apartment, the office wasn't open, so I couldn't get a parking decal. The same office that towed my car while they were still closed. FML
Driving is expensive
Today, my car was towed. After taking a cab all the way to the lot for $45 and paying the $250 fee to get my car back, my car broke down in the impound lot and needed to be towed to the nearest shop, where it took another $200 to fix, and $50 for the towing. I still have a 3-hour drive home. FML
Today, after a week of waiting to hear something about my stolen car, I got a letter in the mail saying it had been impounded the same day I reported it stolen, but they don't share a database with the police so they never called. Now the impound wants $900 plus $120 for the tow to release it. FML
Explain yourself
Today, my truck got towed after being parked for ten minutes, even though wasn't in a no parking area. Now I have to pay 500 dollars to get it out of impound. FML
Bad time for insurance denials
Today, my car broke down dead in the middle of the highway. As I was unable to get it out of the road, it was impounded, and my insurance won't help. Now I'm further in debt and struggling to get to work. FML
Lovely Rita
Today, I went to lunch with a friend in her car. I told her to park in a lot that had signs warning that we'd be towed, saying, "They never tow anyone from here. In fact, if you get towed, I'll pay for it." When we returned, her car was gone. I had to pay $145 in cash to get it back. FML
Today, my car broke down. I pulled to the side of the road to call a tow truck. After waiting what seemed like hours, the tow truck showed up, and then ran into the back of my car. FML
Today, my car was towed for the second time in front of my own house. They tried to tell me it was because they didn't think I lived there anymore. The person who had it towed had just spoken to me not three hours before. FML
Today, I finally got enough money to buy the car I wanted for a year now. It was stolen today too. I had my car for 4 hours. FML
It never rains, it pours
Today, I got a speeding ticket in the mail, at the same time as my car was getting towed. FML

Oh that sucks. Kinda stupid that they won't even let you get your money out. I guess you can get the money of someone and then pay them back.

Sounds like you're in a pickle OP. Maybe borrow some money from someone?

yeah but surely all your money isn't in your wallet?

All my money isn't in my wallet, but I can't access it without my wallet. My bank is strictly online--no physical branches. That means I can't just walk into the bank and pull out some cash with a withdrawal slip. I can only get cash with my debit card. If I couldn't get to my wallet, I'd be screwed. Perhaps OP also has a strictly online bank.

#20 Maybe OP's wallet is in their car?

I'm hoping OP didn't tell them if it's cash, some of the less reputable tow companies will take the cash out of the car and act like nothing happened, and you can't prove they did.

No it's not, the car is in their custody, it's protocol to lot let them in their car so that they don't try to just leave in it, or attempt to damage it, and then sue the company saying they damaged it( I know it's sounds crazy but it happens)

Now that's what you call bad luck! Hopefully you found a way to get into your car op.

Hmmm, you shouldn't have been parked illegally, OP. Perhaps it was out of your control?

Never leave your (I'm assuming you mean wallet by money) wallet in your car. NEVER case closed.

Hopefully your money is still in your car after it's "released".

A paradox!

Get money from a family member to release the car and then pay them back once you've got access to your own money?

didnt think they could refuse you access to your personal items. I'd be finding out what your state laws are on repossessions.

Completely agree. They repossessed your car not your money.
chinaski7628 32
The car wasn't necessarily repossessed-- it could have been towed because OP parked it illegally or OP had tickets or other legal issues. If that's the case, then it is just being held at an impound lot, not taken possession of by a bank or someone else.

Why was your car towed?
