Today, my boyfriend shared with me his anxiety about death, so I shared with him one of my ridiculously irrational fears. He thought I was making fun of him and now won't talk to me. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
CPTSD
Today, I was telling my new boyfriend some of my funny family stories. He gave me the most concerned look and asked honestly, “Have you ever thought about going to therapy?” Apparently the stories I told him not only weren’t funny, but pretty damn scary to him. Now he thinks I’m crazy. FML
Flatulophobia
Today, while in bed with my husband, we were discussing our fears. Mine being the Doomsday Clock. He giggled and made me feel silly about my (rational if you ask me) fear. I let out a tiny toot, and he jumped and screamed bloody murder. FML
Today, I told my boyfriend I had diabetes. He won't talk to me anymore because he thinks I'll infect him with it. FML
That's… a crime?
Today, I finally told my boyfriend that I see a therapist every week because, amongst other things, I'm terrified of being locked in a room. He didn't believe me, so he locked me in the bathroom "for a laugh." I had a panic attack and passed out. FML
Nervous
Today, I went to see my girlfriend to talk about my anxiety, because it's been a big issue. She broke up with me instead. FML
Today, after a year of struggling to get over my anxiety disorder so that I don't have a panic attack every time I go to see my boyfriend, I've been informed that his anxiety has now flared and he gets anxious when texting me. It's a lose-lose, and I'm now causing him the same hell I've felt. FML
Today, I overheard my friends laughing about how my anxiety means I'll be single forever. I was too anxious to confront them. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he was a vampire. I burst out in laughter and said he was ridiculous. He looked at me in disgust and said he couldn't be with someone who didn't trust and believe in him. I'm now single. FML
Today, it was my boyfriend's grandfather's funeral and visitation. These things make me nervous so I, not thinking, made comments that included the words "killing", "dying" and "death". I'm a rubbish support system. FML
Today, I admitted my fear of small spaces to my boyfriend. His response was to immediately lock me in the hall closet. FML

Your boyfriend is immature. You responded in an acceptable way. I thought people have up the silent treatment game in the 5th grade.

How is "let's talk about me instead" kind of conversation acceptable? How about she comforts him then later talk about herself? Then he wouldn't jump to his conclusion.

Unless she interrupts him all the time, the silent treatment hardly seems like an appropriate response.

If you're calling it a "ridiculously irrational" fear, I can see why he would think you're making fun of him. Sometimes it's better to just listen than to compare who has it worst off.

"Ridiculously irrational" as in "this frightens me more profoundly than it logically should." So, "the fruitcake launched me into a spiralling panic attack; I woke up in the hospital three hours later," not "spiders are sorta creepy."

Oh my god, that analogy was fantastic. xD It makes my fear of loud noises and ladybugs seem totally not a problem at all.

So you must have subconsciously thought it was a "ridiculous fear" if that's what you're saying on here now.

You were making fun of him. Evidently, you don't have a rational fear of being crass and insensitive. When someone confides in me about one of their fears or insecurities, I don't try to one-up them with my crippling phobia of expense reports.

omg she wasn't trying to one up him, she was trying to make him feel better. and you seem like the kind of b*tch that would try to one up someone.
GoW_Chick 15
... and you seem like the kind of bitch that would make wild assumptions so you can randomly insult someone. Was that really called for?

Thumbs up, Perdix. That's why we have two ears and one mouth - to listen twice as much as we talk. Most people who confide in someone else aren't looking for advice or counseling. They just want to verbally unload some weight off their minds. And OP, out of curiosity, why was your boyfriend so fearful of death? What brought up the conversation? Something must have happened to bring up such a morbid topic.

By sharing your "ridiculously irrational" fear I can see how that could be misconstrued as insulting his fear of death. Try explaining that you ment it like a phobia "ridiculously irrational fear" not stupid and retarded "ridiculously irrational fear". If he can't understand that, then he's probably not very good bf material to start with and you're probably better off movin on.

a) that's certainly cruel of him, if you really are afraid of _____ then he should be supportive and not insult you by acting like it doesn't matter, it's something that keeps you up at night and he should be touched that you trust and care about him enough to tell him b) an irrational fear vs. horrible anxiety over the fear of dying, of you and your existence ending, forever. Yeah, they just don't measure up

He probably thought you were making fun of his fear, he'll get over it, just give him a hug, everyone likes hugs, and they're free! Free hug anyone?
TheVirtuoso 5
*slowly raises hand* Erm... Someone said something about a free hug..and uhh..well...you know..umm..its *stutters* it's been a while...
perdix 31
That's like "complimentary" valet parking -- officially it's free, but really you are kinda obligated to give the guy a tip. If you were to give me a hug, I'd probably want to discreetly slip you something ;)

I knew it was too good to be true. It couldn't be free. Damn inflation... *suddenly grows grey hair and hunches over desperately holding onto a wooden cane* *with slurred speach* Ya' know, in my day you could buy fifteen hugs fo' a nickel, and another thing, these damn hippies think they own everythin', oh, and don't even get me started on al gore...

He's a baby. Everyone has problems and since you listened to his, he should listen to yours and not make fun of you. Fyl OP for having a dumb boyfriend
