Today, my boss explained that the company will be letting me go. She got so upset that she couldn't leave her office and I had to console her. I had to make her feel less sad for laying me off. FML

Today, after three weeks of my boss telling me how much he appreciates my hard work and has submitted my name up for a promotion, he called me into his office to announce I'm being laid off. FML
Today, while trying to get my boss to reconsider laying off much of my department, I accidentally convinced him to lay me off too. FML
Today, I had to fire an employee because she constantly calls in, or is late to work. She became very emotional and I felt kind of bad, so I walked her out myself. We then got stuck in the company elevator. FML
Today, I found out that when my boss said she was considering bumping me up to full time, she actually meant she was planning on letting me go. Everyone in the office except me knew. FML
Today, my boss made me give a presentation to several senior company officials about the serious financial losses our division has made this year. Barely an hour later, my boss had palmed all the blame off onto me and gotten me fired. FML
Today, I asked my boss if I could take a vacation day for my birthday on Monday. She called to tell me yes, and then told me I'm getting laid off. FML

Nah, it means not all bosses are stereotypical assholes and that some do actually care about their employees.

most aren't assholes. they normally just chose the one who can do it best. those can put feelings aside and do what's best for the company. and then there are those that give orders to others to lay someone off. Those people mostly just see numbers instead of people. good luck OP.

It was never part of her "job". OP just isn't an asshole and seems to be very good with people. Kindness and good intentions aside, had OP left the boss to mourn alone it might have burned a very important bridge.

It might not have been her decision. There's also always the possibility of a discrepancy between you as a person vs. you as an employee. Anyway, sorry you got let go. Here's wishing you the best of luck in finding a new job.
