Today, it was my 18th birthday and I was told I couldn't get the night off work because a party of 34 had booked into the restaurant. It turned out my family had come in to 'celebrate' by making me wait on them. They were a nightmare, thought it was hilarious to be difficult, and didn't tip. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Fine mess
Today, I begged my parents not to take me to a restaurant for my birthday, but sure enough, they took me to one, along with my siblings, aunts, uncles, you name it. Ordering with them is a nightmare, so after a whole half-hour the waiter still hadn’t gotten everyone’s complicated orders written down. FML
Difficult
Today, as a restaurant manager, I had a large party of difficult guests. They sat in their private room they'd reserved for three-and-a-half hours, then caused a huge scene when it was time to pay. One guy even ran at me like he was going to hit me. FML
Today, all of my friends showed up an hour late for my 18th birthday party because they decided to go get dinner without me. FML
Today, I was invited to a birthday dinner at a restaurant. As I was leaving, I get a text from the birthday girl's boyfriend saying that it was cancelled. Hungry, I decided to go to that particular restaurant anyway. Turns out the party wasn't cancelled. Half the party just didn't want me there. FML
You forgetting something?
Today, it was my birthday. My family usually gives me a financial gift, but didn't this time and said nothing about it. I cooked my own birthday dinner without help, then washed everyone's dishes. I got my own cake and ate it alone because they were too busy getting drunk. Nobody bothered to sing Happy Birthday either. FML
Today, it's my birthday and I'd arranged a dinner party for 20 of my closest friends. I arrived at the restaurant, fully dressed and everything. When I got there, I thought everyone was ready to surprise me, but instead, nobody showed up. FML
Thanks everyone
Today, I'd organized a small dinner with immediate family for my birthday. I’ve since received texts from every one of them, cancelling due to varying reasons. My parents excuse is the funniest - they went out last night for a coworker’s party, and don’t want to go out again tonight. For me. Their child. FML
Better luck next year
Today, it's my birthday. My dad showed up to my birthday dinner wasted, was loud and obnoxious the whole time, sexually harassed our waitress, then invited my annoying, bratty nephews to come home and spend the night with us. They're sleeping in my room. Happy birthday to me. FML
Plans
Today, a close friend told me she had no plans for her birthday. I found out she was lying when I had to serve her and nine other mutual friends dinner at the restaurant I work at. I don't know what's worse, the fact that I wasn't invited or that none of them even remembered that I worked there. FML
Today, I went to dinner with friends for my birthday. During the whole thing they insisted that we get whatever we wanted and celebrate, but when the check came, they all looked at me expectantly. I just bought my friends $150 of food for my birthday present. FML

As a former waiter I feel your pain. It would be entirely within your rights to not speak to your family for several days.

Okay OP, I promise I'm not being sarcastic or mean when I say this: Happy birthday. I'm sorry your family were horrible to you, but you can get your own back soon!

I'm sorry, what?

Not sure why I'm being thumbed down, but if someone could decipher the second sentence for me, that'd be great.

#2 means that she can get them back soon enough.

Thanks for the clarification. The wording was just a bit odd for me

I'm English, so maybe it's colloquial! I wasn't aware that, "get your own back" isn't that widely used.

I understood, but as you can tell from my pic I'm in love with British shows not just dr who and most of them are actually older cD

Where I live we usually say "get back at them" or sometimes just "get them back". I've never heard "get your own back" either, although I didn't find it too hard to guess what you meant :)

I thought when they said "get your own back" they meant like taking care of yourself (ie move out/be independent etc) as opposed to relying on family to "have your back". Like instead of "we've got your back" because the family obviously didn't... Soon OP can be on their own

It's safe to say your family is evil. But anyway, happy birthday OP!

I would say until your family comes up with an over 20% tip for a party of 34 **** them. Or they really do something nice for you. Being the cause you working on your birthday and being asses about it isn't right.

I'd go with several weeks at least, but OP presumably lives with them (as I've never known anyone who's actually moved out the day they turned 18) and can't avoid interaction, especially if they're regularly as horrible to her as that. I mean, she probably doesn't live with all 34 of them, but still.

You have mean jerks for family members. This is terrible!
VoldooPed 20
No, I think I would want to *speak* to them, really.

Welcome to adulthood. Time to stop getting your family presents.

Tell them to be nice to someone who handles their food, and ask if the drinks taste funny to them
Demon_of_Light 27
Normally I would be all for this, but I wouldn't put it past OP's family to tell her boss and get OP fired.

Your family sounds like it's full of terrible people.

Yeah that's just awful hope O.P gets payback.
